Whilst he wouldn't be my first choice I'd be happy with Powell. He got Charlton promoted from League one and finished 9th in the Championship the season after in what was his first managerial appointment. As somebody else said, if Lillis was going to make it as a manager, at the age of 55 he'd have done it by now. He's great at what he does in the short term but can he he keep it going? Its a gamble either way but I'd prefer Powell to Lillis. you make a good point. if we lose tomorrow it will be 4points out of 12 under mark and despite the improvement in performances and lets be honest after bourenmouth that wasnt hard it is a result buisness nothing else. a win or a draw tomorrow certainly strenghens marks hand but its deans call and we should support it whether its our own choice or not. After all dean cant satisfy everyone but given his statement i like everyone else will watch what develops with interest.

I find it hard to believe that a new manager would come here without wanting to bring along one or more assistant(s) which would presumably mean a few P45s handed out to some coaches who are doing a good job now. If the "new" man moves from the south, for example, would they fancy moving here. We have had too many changes at Leeds Road. always found the new manager wanting his own men daft to be honest, jobs for his mates,if like us we have decent coaches in place why change it for a new guy to bring his pals in,probably pals he has failed with elsewhere.ok bring in your own team if all were sacked but not if its not needed. In other walks of life you'd work with whoever was there.

THe more this drags on, the more appealing Chris Powell looks. I remember the game back in 2011 where Charlton ended our "unbeaten" run, and the one thing that stuck out massively was how well organised that Charlton side were. Every man knew his role, and they looked like they were working for each other and the shirt. If Powell can bring that to the club, then he'll do for me.

I think Lee Clarke must have looked the same to all those teams we played in the "unbeaten run".

What a crock of shyte from The Yorkshire Post. It sounds like a frustrated journalist throwing his toys out of the pram because Huddersfield Town won't tell him anything.. Having to create a Twitter poll just to make up half a story and then regurgitate some jokes about Hockaday sent in by the clowns from down the road is pretty crass in itself but then he goes on to mention what he does know about Lennon, Mackay and Pulis and tries to belittle us with an upper end championship remark! You could almost hear the journo's angst as he said "Town, to their credit, have kept their business in house." The papers a joke and their journalists need to get off their arses and do some proper research for once. I'd expect no more from a Leeds United paper as their team becomes the biggest joke in the football league as a Town fan i wouldn't even bother putting the shit up for discussion.

Chris Powell had a very decent record at Charlton. He rebuilt the team with mainly free transfers, won league 1 with over 100 points, then led them to a top half finish in his 1st season in championship. The season after he was very unlucky, the pitch at the Valley coupled with a good FA cup run meant he was constantly playing catch up with the backlog of fixtures. He was sacked with something like 4 games in hand over the teams around them. Think he could be a good appointment if he comes.

They had the same experience as Leeds are suffering where a rich chairman moved in and started bringing players in above Powell's head ..The link say's it all... www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2581852/PATRICK-COLLINS-Chris-Powells-sacking-Charlton-Athletic-exposes-footballs-silent-scandal.html

Towns strategy of appointing a manager who will fit with the club ethos is a very sound one and not unreasonable all. Otherwise you end up throwing out the baby with the bath water each time you sack a manager or he walks, you absolutely need some continuity. If managers don't agree with that approach fuck em. I'd be staggered if Sherwood or Hughton really considered the job beneath them, especially Sherwood who has done fuck all. Seems to me the club are biding their time but defeat on Saturday may say it's time to get a move on. What other jobs are out there? Leeds arguably a big club but who would want to work for that loon? I would say the job is an attractive one, it would look much more so if we could move the table!

I'd still be happy with Powell but the longer it goes on the less convinced I am it will be, don't know why. I don't suppose it will be worth scouting round vicarage road to see if interested parties turn up. I recall we were away at Derby before Robins was appointed and there were a few out of work managers around th eplace and none of them ended up in the job.

Not sure that's a fair assessment of the article - you seem to be adding drama and emotion that wasn't really there. To me it seems like a balanced article designed to illustrate that the decision is taking a while and that it's all been (understandably) being carried out discreetly. As for "i wouldn't even bother putting the shit up for discussion", well - you;ve just discssed it, so it's valid and reasonable to post the thread.

]I think Lee Clarke must have looked the same to all those teams we played in the "unbeaten run". In that case let's bring back Clarky! *Tin Hat* In all seriousness though, did we really look like that well-organised an outfit? We certainly rode our luck for a lot of it and also had to put up with some pretty dire performances. A fair few of the draws weren't via hard work and organisation, they were usually played between 2 teams who didn't have the guts to go for a win!
