I get your point and agree there can be too much emphasis on bulking up young players. However, Holmes is very slight, both lower and upper body. The 'small' players you mention aren't, in particular Messi, whose legs are far from scrawny. He doesn't need to be a body builder and may not need to change much at all, but it's certainly not helping him. Add Raheem Stirling to your list. Tiny little bugger but he's a nightmare to knock off the ball. Sterling is that strong he keeps getting fouls given against him, presumably because the ref can't believe he so easily shrugged off the opposition. Again though, his legs are hardly twigs.

said it before but you wouldnt say wilshere's size stops him from competing....he's smaller than holmes and was equally as scrawny when he started out he'll get a lot stronger over the next few years You taking his height off Wikipedia? Says 5'8", not entirely sure that's correct. Looks smaller to me.

He's two yards quicker than most defenders which helps a lot.

think the idea was that he would become a '90 minute man' during this loan spell, we will see if Flitcroft gives him a chance and/or Duane applies himself in training...personally id have him on bench for first team but can understand allm the politics why they(lillis) have loaned him

I don't think many are writing him off........but football does move very quickly these day It's a huge season for Holmes, Sinnott, Wallace, Charles, billing, Carr etc.....it may be too much to expect these lads to kick on in our first team right now.....but if they don't they need to be playing first team football. Am sorry but the development squad is miles away from the first team level and doesn't prepare the lads for the week in week out intensity of the championship. I agree with the jist of what you're saying, but I'm not sure that this is a particularly big season for Billing & Charles. Both are only 18 - even if neither makes an appearance this season I wouldn't write them off yet. I'd hope for Holmes to develop a lot this season - he's almost the age Jack Hunt was when he went to Chesterfield & if he does well could give CP a selection headache when he comes back. I'm not worried about him not making much impact at Bury yet, ask me again in a month or so's time. As others have said though, Bunn & Smith weren't on anybody's radar 12 months ago & look at them now!

Bunn hasn't played enough yet to form a view IMO but again didn't he have to leave city to progress. I want to see a few of the good young uns going to Chesterfield, Bradford etc ----- better that than development squad IMO. Not writing anyone off as yet......but if like Sinnott you are 21/22 and not near the first team regularly then I fear it's time to move on.

Holmes watch - on bench, played 30 mins, booked Bury are top of the league. With Holmes waiting in the wings they're obviously going places. Notice how we've slumped since he's been there

Last season this fella was going to be the saviour and the next big thing, he's too light weight for me! Yes he bangs them in for the development squad but has done nothing in the league! Can't see him making it at all, same as Carr, Carol etc, not good enough for town!

Needs to bulk up a bit so he can bounce off opponents.

Two contacts. Firstly, a fan ... - Holmes goes on short bursts then loses it too easily
- Not strong enough on the ball
- No end product
Then an 'insider' ... ALLEGEDLY ... - Bury are VERY happy with his footballing skills
- They are very UNHAPPY with his fitness levels
- They are very unhappy with his attitude - apparently when asked to do things in training his response is "We don't do that at Huddersfield"
Looks like we can expect him back any day now ...

I hope this isn't true. He should be digging out blind if he wants a career in football. Like I said hope it's just rumours

Just like he was with us, good for ten mins, if that's true re his attitude then that's pathetic.

Massive fan of his but it could be one those where he needs to drop out of the game to realise how lucky he was and then come back with a revised attitude to it all. A bit like Scott Hogan

With a physique of a 10 year old girl, he's gonna have to get everything else spot on (including his attitude) to make it at this level.

What has been going on for his fitness to be so poor, he is only a young lad from a championship side. I find that quite worrying. if I was him I'd be working on bulking up, but then I care about the game and have little talent. He sounds like a twat and is destined for non league, which is a shame.

He got sent to Bury because of his attitude here. Dean did say at the Patrons meeting last week that if he doesn't make it at Bury then he won't make it here.

I also heard he got sent there because of his attitude, a case of "Do you know who I am? I can use that entrance as I am ......" when using a fire door and told he couldn't enter the building through that way, was what I was told, he was then reported and the next thing he's shipped out on loan................is it just coincidence or a case of "no smoke without fire"? Sounds to me like another footballer getting too big for his boots after a few first team run outs, when will these type of young players realise, that they are lucky to be be in a position they are in, money wise, but that doesn't make them GOD!!!!

Steady on lads, I know Duane very well and some or the stuff being said is very unfair. He would be the first to tell you that he needs to work on aspects of his attitude and his game but he loves Town and loves the game and has time for anyone. I won't be going into further details re attitude or fitness but his asthma definitely restricts his fitness levels much as it did with Boothy at that age til it was sorted.
Give the lad a break he is a good kid, massively talented and is trying to make a career - he is well aware believe me of how important this spell is a Bury.
