Not making a negative post. Just pointing out that he wasn't in the squad today and trying to suss out a possible reason. This thread is about his loan, I believe.

Notice how Bury are flying since he's been there. His influence from the bench is working wonders.

Came on in the 63rd minute. Only mention of his involvement in the game thereafter (on the Bury FC website):
87:36 Free kick awarded for a foul by Duane Holmes on Andrew Fleming

Pretty sure I saw him today coming into the stadium car park when leaving after watching the under 21s.

Holmes not even used as a sub in Bury's defeat today.....so all those who reckon that he needed to be a 90 minute man and going to Bury would give him the game time? Waste of talent and slowly destroying the little confidence he has left imo bring him back end his banishment get him alongside Billing in the Development team for 90 minutes that would be better than this 'punishment'.

Just got back home from the Dons v Bury game so, as I promised, here's my summary of Duane's afternoon!
Very good game, ended 3-2 to Dons. At 3-1 down early in the second half you'd have thought the time was right to bring Duane Holmes on, but it never happened. At Kingstonian the players have to cross the pitch from the tunnel to the dugouts on the far side, so from where I was stood I had a good view across to Bury's dugout. Holmes did a bit of warming up on the touchline after 20 minutes or so, but that was about the only time he did. I don't think he warmed up once in the second half. He was in the corner of the dugout, furthest from the manager and was either leaning back against the back of the dugout or sat looking down at his feet. On 73 minutes Bury scored from a penalty to make it 3-2 and immediately brought on their last sub (a striker), so Duane wasn't getting any game time today! I looked again at the dugout and Holmes wasn't there! Then I saw him walking round the pitch and he went down the tunnel. Five minutes later I looked again at the dugout and he was back! Maybe he just went to the toilet!
Not sure what to make of it all, but it's not looking good for him. To be honest, I don't think his body language was great. It doesn't seem to be working out for him at Bury, which is worrying. Maybe time for Town and him to have a serious chat and look at other options? Hard to believe that almost exactly one year ago I left Leicester's ground raving at Holmes's cameo performance, and now he can't even get off the bench at a Div 2 side! I hope he can turn things round, but it's not looking too good for him!

Think loaning him out is the right thing to do but obviously its not happening for him at Bury. Don't know anything about them but maybe they just have a better option for that role in midfield? Think we should end that loan and look to send him out somewhere else where he can hopefully get more game time, even if its in the blue square prem.

They both seem to have re- invented themselves as holding midfielders but they did ok. Very impressed with Kwasi Appiah though. He's got the finishing quality of Nahki, but also with terrific strength and running power and can get behind defenders. He would be a threat in the Championship.

Saw quite a bit of that game goodshot. Agree that Appiah looked a good player. Strong and a cracking finish on him. Didn't even realise Robbie Simpson was playing til near the end. Collins has changed since he was here. Holding midfielder and didn't get forward at all really. Thought he was Oxfords best player by a distance on the day, which probably wasn't saying much in a 5-1 defeat. Never seemed to give the ball away and he had it quite a lot especially 2nd half. The only time I can remember him making a poor pass he ended up hacking the guy down hed given it to and getting booked! not very Michael Collins like at all!

I don't know whether bury play a passing game, as much as is possible in L2? If it's not working there, as it seems we need to look at another loan. Surely his pace would be effective at that level for a team that tries to get it down. Maybe if it was a rest of the season loan he might get his head down and then club can plan to have him for a few months.

At the risk of being knee jerk, duane is heading towards michaels route of meandering in the lower divisions never fulfilling early promise.....duane still has youth on his side, but the game is becoming increasingly about younger and younger players.....think shaw, chambers, oxlade chamberlain, stones etc.

Development squad for what? game time? I don't watch the development squad much at all, but word was he often shone out at that level, probably because theres a lot of youngsters and it isn't anywhere near as physical or intense. But theres a big jump between development squad level and first team,. even at L2 level, so for him to develop as a player it isn't more development football he needs IMO, its first team football. Get him playing at the highest level he can get a game I say.

Collins was a 1st team regular and moved up a division when he left before lengthy injuries meant he barely played for a few years and won't ever fulfull his early promise. Unless he develops his game and develops physically, its likely Holmes will just drop into the lower levels of the pyramid without ever establishing himself at town. Same end result perhaps, but hardly the same route.

Bunn & Smith at 21 are our youngest. Only Holmes at 18/19 has come close to playing regularly for us in recent years.

It will be good for him to stay there & fight to earn a place in their side.
If he cannot show the stomach for it at Bury then he will not do so here.

That's my point re our young players.........the championship is littered with young lads 21 or under......byram, mowat, Hughes, Redmond, Gibson, Wilson, lascelles, just off the top of my head! If our players aren't in or on the verge of the squad by the then I fear for them.......can't see the likes of Sinnott, crooks, being involved going fwd and they are now 21+ aren't they?

Think this has pretty much nailed it on that Holmes will make it and in 12 months time Nick will be saying he's the greatest player we've ever had We play Blackpool next. Cast your mind back to that home game last season. Who came on and turned it around for us? Shows he offers something

The lad would never give enough playing a full championship game. You know it IMO.
