Wallace against Notts Forest in the cup was Town MOM Some people just have the knives out no matter how they perform ! 4 days later he was rubbish IMHO. I don't get what he brings......not quick, a great header of the ball defensively nor a good reader of the game. Add to that concentration lapses and even at 21 I'm not sure he cuts it at this level. I hope he proves me wrong, but if we have a fit squad, Hudson, Gerrard, lynch, smith would all play ahead of him at centre back for me right now. Correct Wallace will not get on the bench a lot of the time this season peltier started centre back 1st game smith was playing centre back last year

I would play Wallace before Gerrard tbh. I think he could really thrive along side Hudson. Time will tell. Loan to league two .

I thought Wallace has played well in the two games I've seen him this year (Cardiff and Watford) and I don't think I'd fault him for any of the goals - people may be inclined to blame him for Deeney's but Deeney was Lynch's man at that point and Lynch lets him go, possibly only telling Wallace at the last minute. I thought it was a real battle between Deeney and Wallace on Saturday that Wallace just edged - the first 20 mins the whole defence was a bit shaky, not least because we had a left back playing at right back and our left back being positionally inept (which causes massive problems for CBs), but I thought it was noticeable how Robinson growing into the game allowed Wallace (and Lynch) to marshal Deeney, and he barely had a look in after that (he's hardly mentioned in the BBC live text, which I think is indicative of this as well). He also looks to be the most comfortable on the ball out of our CBs - the only misplaced pass on Saturday was when he tried to start a quick counter attack and passed the ball ahead of Scannell, but Scannell (as he often is) was a second behind the rest of the world and didn't anticipate the move - and makes a heck of a lot of interceptions, which shows a good footballing brain. If I'm honest, I'd have him in the team ahead of Lynch at the moment, who is far more prone to lapses in concentration and whose distribution isn't as good. Putting Wallace in a 'sweeper' type role alongside Hudson or Gerrard (who takes the big man up front) could be the making of him.

Of course, it's all a matter of opinion, but I think Wallace has improved markedly over the past year and have been impressed with his play when I have seen him this year. But you are right: Time will tell. No doubt Hudson has been brought in as first choice, and I will look forward to seeing him in action. Can't say I know much about the lad, but the acceptance about his lack of pace DOES worry me (at the moment) - neither Gerrard or Wallace are blessed in that department. Let's wait & see.... "IDWT"?

I've criticised Wallace but Hudson could be the perfect mentor for him to learn off. Neither has great pace but Hudson has learned his position, knows how to read the game (to compensate for a lack of pace) and is physically strong
Once Gerrard is fit I'd loan out Wallace for a few months (am sure he'd still train part time at Town) in order to toughen him up against some physical lower league strikers and then see where we are in the New Year. At present he's not up to the Championship standard and needs to develop a bit more (at a lower level)

Wallace has without doubt been our best defender this season so far

Like Wallace, think he's an easy target as he seems abit awkward but I actually think he's a good footballer but like with any young lad makes the odd mistake. Couldn't get to Watford as I had something else on but it's the only game I've missed so far and have to say personally I dint think he's had a bad game yet and is much improved from last season.

Sometimes you watch him and you think we've got a good player here, then other times you think how the hell did he make a footballer. One things for sure and that's he's only going to get better by playing so him alongside Hudson I don't think would be a bad option tbh

He tried hard at Watford - but Deeney had him in his pocket. Too strong, quick and clever for Wallace, but as I've said on other threads, Deeney will do that to a lot of centre halves this season. Wallace didn't really know whether to get tight to him or stand off. Be interesting to see how Hudson plays against him in the return.

What a quality championship defender
Might as well sliced the ball in the net instead of gifting them a pass to the goal

Hudson can learn him??? Learn him what??? If anyone is to blame it was Smithies, why did he pass the ball back to him instead of launching the ball up field.

Collectively a shambles conceding that goal, they launch it forward from all angles when they've no pressure on them, then they try to play out from the back when there is.
Madness.
God knows what they were thinking but continue to make mistakes like that and we'll go down.
As for Wallace, he's just not up to it at this level.

Takes a lot of stick on here does this lad so time for some praise, thought he had a top game yesterday against an awkward player in Gray. Might be in the minority but think he's a good young player who will only get better with games.

Thought he didn't put a foot wrong yesterday but I guess we should only resurrect this thread to criticise him. IMO the criticism of him at Bolton was over the top. We seem very quick to criticise and slow to praise some of our players.

We seem very quick to criticise and slow to praise some of our players. He was solid yesterday. Anyone who has a go clearly didn't notice him intercept several ball and then bring it out of defence and they play it to a Town midfielder. Lynch would of just "hoofed" it straight back to Brentford. Well played Wallace.
