Hi, just wanted to say well done to you on signing Mark Hudson. When Hudson first signed for us, it took a while for him to win over the fans ... there was constant critisism of him being too slow; whilst he didn't get too much stick out on the pitch the message boards were, nevertheless, not complimentary about him. However, as I said ... Hudson won over the doubters. In our promotion season he was absolutely immense ... last ditch tackles / blocked shots / goal line clearances / important goals ... you name it, he had it in his repertoire. The issue about his lack of pace ... it's true, he lacks pace but he's one of those players who reads the game fantastically well, therefore he rarely allows himself to get exposed. He's always focused, has great awareness of those around him and is as honest as the day is long. I'm not sure if your club would make a bold enough move to hand the captain's armband to a new signing or not but I really feel that he's the kind of personality that relishes responsibility, it brings out the best in him. He's not the most vocal of captains - you rarely see him giving anyone a bollocking, it's not his style, he just encourages and directs players and of course... leads by example. I can't recall any opposition player getting the better of a physical dual with Hudson, he's really strong. Oh, and he loves going up for corners where he's such a threat.
Just give him a few games to adjust to those around him and find his bearings.. you'll find you've made an excellent signing.
Good luck for the rest of the season!

Thanks for this. Think that any Town fans seeing this as a negative signing based on age/pace etc. need to give their heads a shake. The ability to read a game well is what puts good players streets ahead of players trying to make up for it with effort and physical presence...
We have to remember that the Buxton days were fantastic (for me included) but we're operating in different times and at a different level now where quality will win you more games than effort will...

Reminds me of Andy Morrison he was the same kind of player always popped up where needed when needed but looked like he'd eaten all the pies before half time

Good to hear, sounds very encouraging and exactly what we need. I think the bit I've highlighted in bold is key, especially having seen the mentality of some of our fans on this forum. He does have the 2 week break to settle in which is perfect. I don't see any reason why we would give him the armband. Technically Pelts was a new signing when he got it...

Defenders of his quality often do lack pace at this level. If they didn't they would be playing for Arsenal. Thanks for the post and good luck for the rest of the season.

Cheers latcher,
We could have done with him against kenwyn bloody jones and deeney by the sounds of it!
Sounds perfect for us...I thought we might a have chance of him if you signed another CB as Ole made no secret of that & we've dealt with you before with Gerrard.
We find ourselves outmuscled too often at the back in this league and are up agaisnt strength and good movement more often than out and out pace.
Have a good season

Galpharm2400 won't be happy about this. According to him a centre half shouldn't be anywhere near his own box.
