Not really, most they can get is 238, we started the day on 223 so really we only need 16 points from 2 games to knock them out of the equation, so 1 draw and 1 defeat and a handful of bonus points for us (this of course assumes Warwickshire get full batting and bowling bonus points in both of their final 2 games) means they're out of the equation.

Is that an all English line up? We'll you know what they say "when Yorkshire have a strong team, England have a strong team". Great day in the sun. I don't think it will be long before Lythe displaces Robson. Pure class today. Really plays within himself. Balance like rock. Second new ball was a bit lively but another two good sessions tomorrow and it's a new tie. Shook Dickie Bird's hand on the way out and he thinks we would have to do something very daft to lose it now!

Is that an all English line up? I believe they were all born in Yorkshire bar Ballance (Zimbabwe), Leaning (Bristol) and Brooks (Oxford). Leaning was born in Bristol because his Dad is Andy Leaning who was born in Yorkshire but was Bristol City's keeper in 1993 - when Jack was born. I believe he was raised in York That said while not born in Yorkshire he's very much a Yorkie IMO Big morning coming up at Notts

Would be tempted to say get to 450-475 around an hour or so into the afternoon session then give them an awkward 10-15 overs coming up to tea.
Edit: Just seen we've only scored 10 runs in the last 10 overs. Could do with speeding up a little.
Oh and slightly off topic but no idea if they have drinks breaks in county matches like they do in internationals, but there must be some reason why most county games you seem to get 90-98 overs in the 6 hours of play that there should be, yet internationals you're lucky to get 90 overs in 6 1/2 hours.

Grind them down into the dirt Notts have to win. If Yorks get into a position where they shouldn't lose (and Notts can't win) it will have a psychological effect on Notts when they go into bat - ie it will he hard to focus if the title is realistically gone and some may not be on it mentally We are a long way from that though. Need to get to around 500 runs IMO

495-8 at tea. Think they'll try to bat for an hour or so after tea, maybe up the run rate to try get to 550-575 by around 4.30-4.45ish, then stick Notts in for 45-60mins or so. We're on a good score anyway so even if we went for it and they took the last 2 wickets within say 15-30mins of the start of the evening session, it's still going to be a very very hard job for Notts to go and win the game if we end up on say 515

Interesting to note too that Gary Keedy, who currently has got 5 of our wickets, is from Wakefield and came through the Yorkshire academy. Quite a few Yorkshire boys dotted around the county circuit, including Ajmal Shahzad (born in Huddersfield) who has missed out on this game for Notts.

I fully agree with Dominic Cork, even if Yorkshire only draw and Warwickshire get max points -
Pl Pts
Yorkshire 15 235 (assuming max bowling pts.) Warwicks 15 214 Notts 15 208 (assuming max batting pts)
Let it rain - 5pts for a draw, we cannot fail - IT'S THE WINNING THAT COUNTS!!!!

Agreed, and really unless they managed to do what Gloucestershire did yesterday and score 500 runs in a day, they realistically have very very little chance of getting enough runs and therefore putting us under enough pressure to potentially cause us to bottle it and collapse to defeat in the time remaining in the game. Currently 513-8, and if I'm honest I can't see us losing from this point. If we draw, that's fine, obviously if we win the title in style with a win then even better, but I can't see us losing. Thing is as well, even if we don't 'go for it' and we drift along at say 2 an over for an hour, it may not move our score on massively but it takes more time out of the game for Notts to go and get 700+ and then skittle us, and with a draw being fine for us, it might not be too bad an idea after all to just drift along slowly.

Looks like we are going for it. Bresnan on 94 with 7 4's from him in the last 5 overs. Reckon therefore that they'll either let Bresnan get his 100 or try to get the total to 550 and then declare.
Edit: Bresnan out for 95. Though 1 man has got a century it's a tiny bit disappointing that we've had 2 get within 5 runs of a century and 2 more get within 8 of a half century.
We've now declared on 532-9

Excellent captaincy from young Joe this. Tempting them into playing the shots with the way he's set up our field. Top draw bowling capping it off superbly.

There'd be a certain delightful irony in ex-Yorkshire player Gary Keedy taking most of Notts' wickets, and ex-Yorkshire player Michael Lumb scoring most of their runs. As long as we win; if they did, and we didn't, it would be rather annoying, not deliciously ironic!

We have a terrifically balanced bowling attack. Seem, pace, swing, accuracy, bounce and a quality spinner. I think it's one of the most balanced squads Yorkshire have put together in years in al honesty. Plunkett is the man that we've missed for the last few years. His pace and accuracy has made our attack a bit more lethal. At the start of the season I thought we were a bit soft in the bowling but we've been brilliant especially in the opening bowling department. Yorkshires batting is the best county batting line up when al the england boys are back. Lyth needs to replace Robson ASAP.
