After the game on Saturday Lillis said that the club was still looking at "the back and up top", we obviously got one target in but I wondered how close we were at getting another?
As it is obvious we are looking at that position too who do you think we will get in on loan? I posted last night I'd love to see Beckford back, rescue him from Dougie Freedman, but I understand wages will be a problem.
Who else may now become available from the Prem now the window has shut?

Wells, Vaughan and Beckford would be an awesome strike force to select from. I don't think he left Bolton in the window but is clearly unsettled there. DH thought very highly of him and I just wonder if there is an opportunity there? Beckford has got to start looking a bit longer term rather than scratting about with clubs.
We now have a side with a real physical backbone of Hudson, Coady and Vaughan - but we still need an option other than Wells up front when Vaughan is crocked.

I think we'll get one in on loan but because it's not quite as pressing as a CB we'll probably wait for the new manager.
I dont think beckford would be right....him and wells are too similar. I'm not one of these obsessed by getting in a target man, but id try for grant holt on loan.

Without Grayson Beckford does not seam to be at his best, IMO. Also Grant Holt would be a great addition to this team.

DH had his arm round him as well. My point was that Beckford needs to get in to a decent club for a decent length of time and get back towards his best - and to do that he is going to have to eventually accept a lower level contract. Might as well come to us where DH appreciates him. Grant Holt would do nicely though! Wonder what Hudson is on - don't know what his contract situation was at Cardiff but we must have made him a very good offer at the very high end of our pay scale....although Sugy wouldn't even pay peanuts for him.

How can Rotherham sign Becchio from Norwich a goal scorer in this division. I fully support our owner but i find it frustating to see a player of that quality going to our opposition when we desperatly need anther stricker, who can score regularly. Going on what ML said in his comments about one up top i hope we have a rabbit in the hat, but rotherham sining Becchio, and you know he will score against us

apparently we're loaning Akpom from Arsenal, don't know how reliable it is but he looks like another Benik Afobe so not sure if it's good or not

Beckford, Kone, Holt - all good (at this level) but relatively expensive, and possibly flawed, options. Wouldn't mind any of 'em, but I like the looks of Harry Bunn, some of you (older types) might remember Gerd Muller - similar type of player - I will be watching his progress closly and hoping he fills the void.

Not for me. Class act in Lg1 but doesn't seem able to step up to Champ. Charlton got rid, Brentford didn't want him once promoted. Not sure he offers anything we don't already have, tbh.

Not Holt for me either, despite his move to Villa (from Wigan) he was terrible when I saw him play on a couple of occasions.

Did Lillis say we had a good relationship with Liverpool the other day? 6 ft 4 18 year old Jerome Sinclair is pretty highly rated and could be worth a shout on loan.

Depends on how much of his wages we'd have to pay & this might be dreaming but I reckon Leicester will be loaning Chris Wood out if they can. He's only played about 15 mins this season & they got 2 strikers on loan from Man Utd yesterday.

It's not the worst: we had at least one numpty saying they wouldn't have Wellbeck and I even recall Diego Forlan getting the 'no thanks' on here once.

A striker is a massive luxury, especially with Stead and Paterson still on our books. Had we moved the latter on I'd have expected one.
Still Bunns come in and done well, can't block his pathway. In the long term weneed a striker but for now our squad is more than capable barring a Vaughan injury. Worth noting not many qulaity strikers will come here to play 2nd fiddle to JV or Nahki so I'd expect us to find a young hidden/rough gem.

Wow:D Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards Yes - he wont be cheap and didnt look the same player last season as when he was doing well for Norwich. He didnt look that interested at Wigan. Not for me, of people mentioned on various threads I'd take Chris Wood over him on loan all day long.

I'm pretty sure that was identified as a major failing of the club last year (even by themselves) of not having a suitable stand in for Vaughan. We are in danger of repeating the mistake again this season. There was a huge drop in the effectiveness of our performance at Watford when Vaughan went off - if we needed reminding. Its a long old season. Stand ins are a necessity not a luxury.
