Remember him. Was Chris Powell assistant at Charlton. Best mates.
Wondering if he may be making a return.

Worked with him at Blackpool in the 80's. Cracking lad. No pace but a decent winger.

Shite for Town, easily in the all time shitest town 11. Might be a good coach though.

IIRC he scored a last minute equaliser at wolves. Only thing he did.

He was gash, but he scored a good equaliser at home in the cup against West Ham.

He scored a last minute winner against Ipswich which was cancelled out by a last minute equaliser by Ipswich, then got the winner against West Ham in a cup game. Not as bad as people made out, it's just people were against Brian Horton at the time and Horton had just signed him, so he was a bit of a skapegoat. Not that he was good, just not that bad.

Dyer would be a deal breaker for me. I never want to see him at the Town ground again unless he's put his boots on for the opposition! Happy enough if Powell though.

Completely agree with you there. He certainly wasn't great, but nowhere near as bad as the crowd's reaction to him suggested. Town's worst XI? Not even close.

He wasn't great, but there's been plenty worse.
Michael Williams on loan from Wednesday was the worst player I've seen.
We do have a knack for signing ineffectual central midfielders...

It's not like he'll be playing ffs, if that was the combination that got Charlton the lg1 title and finished 9th in Championship then it'll probably do for us.

We've had so much shite play for us over the years its hard to pick the 11 worst players, but I also agree, Alex Dyer wouldn't be in it.

Spot on, nowhere near as bad as made out, got some stick due to the general frustration at the state of the club/team at the time and lack of investment, sheep followed and he's been incorrectly labelled as one of the worst ever since. He wasn't that bad, just not what we needed at the time. Chance to change perceptions maybe

Always remember the homemade "Alex Dyer - Feet of Fire" banner in the Kilner Bank.

Come to think of it - if we were to come up with a HTFC XI that got the most undeserved stick - Alex Dyer would probably be one of the first names on the team sheet. I'm struggling to think of many that were treated as unfairly by the crowd as he was.
His name probably didn't help. I wonder if when we hit a poor run of form, the moniker "Alex Dire" will resurface.

As far as I can recall he was bloody awful!!
I notice someone has included Dudley Lewis, who was shite but the first season he played for us, he was ok. Ken O'Docherty, now that is harsh to include him in that and Mark Barham, weren't shit just permanently injured.

I remember him being booed, despite only just joining and hadn't really put a foot wrong, then went onto score against Ipswich then West Ham. He had awful treatment, but as someone said he's not here to play.

For me, Kiegan Parker was a far worse player and came across as complete tool to boot. Alex Dyer was very poor. Definitely scape goated at the time, but he had very little control over his own limbs. I'm sure it's no reflection on his coaching ability.

The one who infuriated me the most was Lukas Jutkewicz(?) throwing his town shirt to the floor after being subbed. Whole crowd hated him.

I was sat behind the dug out and tho I was not the biggest Lee Clark fan, his reaction to jutkewank was utterly priceless....noticed the shirt go off, stormed back picked it up and threw it straight back in his face, so incensed was he. Brilliant.
