yet again the glorious "leaders" of this game that we love so much and pay so much to support have got their noses firmly in the trough. This came out at the weekend in a Sunday Times article - in theory FIFA officials are only allowed to accept gifts of a nominal value. Seems they think this includes £16,000.00 watches!!! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29257077Wonder how Russia got the next World Cup? And don't start me on Qatar!!! Disgusting, greedy bastards!!

He is indeed, but don't you wonder what happened to all the others though? One guy "gave it to a family member" because he didn't realise it's value, evidently. Dyke may well have acted honourably, but you must also question, if he gets SO many gifts that a £16,000.00 watch is left "unopened" how long he would have waited before deciding it was no longer "hot"? And if such gifts are so common - why would that be then - they are only supposed to accept gifts of nominal value.
I admire your faith in Dyke, I also admire (if true) the inferred confidence in the rest of the leaders of our game. What fine fellows Blatter, Platini, Jack Warner, Bin Hammam are!!!

Dykes just as grubby and self serving as all the rest. The idiot should have been fired the moment he came up with the idea of shoehorning prem clubs reserves into the FL.

Greg Dyke's just another numpty. The whole FA should be sacked / resign on mass. Not one of them is fit to run a tuck shop, never mind one of the biggest industries this country has now. As for FIFA or UEFA dont even get me started on them.
However.. Platini hates the premier league with a passion.... this alone almost forces me to like him.

I notice they havent mentioned "our glorious leader" Sepp Blatter. I guess they will all protect him and even if he is found to have pocketed 20 of those watches noone would do a damn thing about it. I wouldnt be surprised if it werent the same at all top sports. Look at F1 and the NFL guys letting wife and child beaters get lenient punishments aslong as the money flows in.
In all sports kids start for the love of it. For football you are kicking a tennis ball in the street or jumpers for goalposts down the rec. Then you go and play with your mates or local team and then some go upwards and upwards until they are so far removed from the realities of the game its no surprise they lose the passion. Maybe instead of the inane comments after the next England match Rooney goes and starts a game of headers and volleys with the fans!

Didn't we have a watch-related furore with FIFA before? Something along the lines of a certain model of watch being gifted to the Executive Committee because one of their wives was known to covet it?
I occasionally watch highlights of Michel Platini playing just to remind me how utterly remarkable he was as a player, to counterbalance the utter tosspottery of his time with UEFA. Franck Ribery should be banned for three games for retiring from international football? Give me a break.

It was a gift who wouldn't accept a free watch worth £16k not one person on here would say no guaranteed. But people are quick to judge and slate others so the perception of themselves is better. No one dares admit the truth and its sad really. I would of said thank you very much and put it away for my daughters inheritance. Britain is not a free country anymore there is no free speech or free expression. But thats all our faults for putting up with crap off arseholes and do gooders day in day out. One after another after a f****** other. Its mental, more than that its deranged. The uk now is full of scared people, with no right to sonething every human is born with, expression and speech. But ill tell you this and ill tell you clear. When the shit hits the fan, which it most likely will within our childrens generation, he ones who complained and got upset will be the first to come running for help. And you know what i will help them, i will reach my hand down and take them into my defensive bosom but i will do that with pity, pity on there easily led souls

There is nothing to prevent some sort of hospitality/gifts but it has to be measured and not excessive. FIFA, UEFA and the FA should have a system in place to record ALL gifts and also set a limit or as it seems in this case allow "reasonable" gifts. This also includes having a policy and procedure to prevent bribery and corruption. Where I work we have that system in place and you are allowed to receive gifts provided it is not more than $100 (USD) AND it has to be recorded in the Gifts Register. The basis is that whilst there not be anything other than hospitality behind any gift it is about the perception that by receiving a gift, when a decision is made relating to the giver, you may feel obliged to assist them or to an onlooker there is that perception. It is all about transparency and which certainly it appears that FIFA is lacking in.

It was a gift who wouldn't accept a free watch worth £16k Not if your high up in FIFA or a member of a national association you don't. And surprise surprise Blatter doesn't know where his is. FIFA are the most untrustworthy world organisation going, I wouldn't trust them to run a raffle at the local church fete.

It was a gift who wouldn't accept a free watch worth £16k Well I would get fired as it would violate our Corrupt Gift policy based on the Bribery and Corruption Act as noted above. Its a gift if your mate gave it you as he is rich and likes you. If it comes from a party who can financially gain from a decision you are going to make then this is clearl a bribe. A good example of this is hollywood stars get goodie bags at the Oscars with gifts like this but they are not in a decision making role to determine if the person providing the watch gets some sort of benefit or not. The issue is more if we could have it and get away with it then yes we all would most likely

They are all bent. This really shouldn't be a surprise. Dyke, by dint of being too daft to notice is probably the only trustworthy one. Ten years on they will all be found out, hopefully.

Dyke comes across as a clueless idiot whenever he talks about the game, but hes not a clueless idiot when it comes to doing well for himself. The ideas that a) he didn't know he had the watch or roughly what it was worth, and b) that him and all the other execs in the hotel didn't immediately say to each something on the lines of 'f*ck me! Thats some gift the brazilians have given us isn't it?!!' is too implausible for words.
It a case of - if I can get away with it, Ill keep it. If it becomes public, Ill give it back.

I find it hard to believe anyone would just set aside such an extravagant gift In fact i dont think Mr Dyke is being completely open and honest And that Blatter has misplaced a £16,000 watch -" crikey now where is that old thing " If £16,000 watches can be given out in an all above board manner goodness knows what the level of dodgy deals there are! My point exactly!!

Platini has said he's well educated and being so will not return the watch as it's not the done thing to return gifts but he will give the monetary value of it to charity

Hang on a minute I'm just popping out to my garage to see if I have one in there.

I know I keep banging on about it, but on BBC web site today- "Uefa president Michel Platini has told BBC Sport the 2022 Qatar World Cup must be played in winter. Platini said: "It'll never be in April, May or June. It will be in winter."He added the clubs would accept whatever decision was made. "It's not the clubs that are playing, it's the players and it's not possible to play in May when it's 40 degrees," said Platini." That's why the fecking Arabs don't play the fecking game, you greedy, lying conniving French pratt! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29915166
