Can you imagine what it was like before the Internet when a club brought in a player just before a game.. You wouldn't know until you saw the team out on the pitch! Roll on 3pm

Roll on 3pm I remember turning up at Valley Parade in c.92 wondering who the hell Iain Dunn was and where he had appeared from. It was great. Nowadays we are told when players sign instantly and are declared shite and past it days before they make their debut.

Hmmm,,, short term ok I guess, but I can't get excited. A bit like Powell's appointment, isn't it a bit obvious, bland and boring?
Long term - I repeat where is the striker we needed 5 months ago? Given we filed in the August window, I assume he will be here in January
Holt offers a presence, and we've seen unfortunately (for me) Powell likes to play the ball long early.
3 goals in 32 appearances last season... 10 for Villa dont forget and of the 32 half were sub appearances, gives more than goals I know

Pfft. Someone never called Clubcall At them prices?! A true Yorkshireman??!!! What was worse was the tantalising headlines on Teletext 'Call for new signing news', then - at about 70p a minute - it was strung out by some bloke who had the speech characteristics of the Elephant Man "Eoin... Hand....Expects....No....New....Signings....".

Holt suited & booted at Canalside by tweets of Town fans there. Could be involved today then?

Missed the boat by a few years on this one but he might do a job in the short term retaining the ball up top better than Wells or Stead can manage

We have been crying out for a big guy up front to either play regularly or cover for Vaughan. Wells has shown at Bradford that he plays much better with this sort of partner up front. If this rumour is true he does seem the right sort of guy - short term at least. Lets give him a chance.

Is Lambert getting much game-time at Anfield this season? ?

I'm not a fan of his. Getting on a bit and a big unit. Then again perhaps that's what we need up there ... my main reason for being underwhelmed by this, if true, is I know a few Wigan fans who all absolutely hate him!

And the town experts pipe up again. "He is past it" etc. As has been proved many times on this board, a lot of people know nothing. Holt has playing badly in their under 21s, that is true. However he played in the premier league last year and to go from the prem to under 21s may leave him not exactly pulling any trees up. Give him a chance, the ball is not sticking up front which is meaning their isn't time for the midfield to push up which allows wells to drown on his own up front. Let's see what happens.

Holt or any other recognized hold up man wouldn't have had a chance with that appalling hoofball service in the Boro and Wigan games. The service has to be right or you just give the ball to the opposition who control midfield. Personally id like us to play a passing style through midfield but if we can get the results points and progress playing the Chris Powell way this is all that counts at this stage

the ball is not sticking up front As it shouldn't. FFS, this caveman tactic of Powell's is torture.

I'm in Canalside at the moment smashing in a hot beef sarnie and a pint of Yorkshire blonde, there are plenty of suited and booted players in here at the moment, however I wouldn't know Grant Holt if he came and twisted my nipples, so I've no idea if he's here.

the ball is not sticking up front As it shouldn't. FFS, this caveman tactic of Powell's is torture. Didn't play that way at Leeds but still couldn't keep hold of ball up front, we need someone who can hold the ball and bully defenders no matter what system we play. We also have good widemen capable of putting crosses into the box and no one there to meet them. It's no coincidence hamills assists dried up when we lost JV last season
