As I posted elsewhere, if Holt remains at Wigan for the remainder of his contract it will cost them over £5 million (£2million transfer fee from Norwich and a rumoured £20,000 a week). Coyle must have been happy with the transfer fee and his wages, but many Wigan fans haven't much time for him because he's supposed to be a poor trainer. Hi-Tec?

Totti has just scored for Roma at the age of 38, get Holt signed up on a long contract he's only a spring chicken in comparison

I think here is here until 8th Nov because I remember thinking that Fulham away will potentially be his last match.
Lets hope that before then we have an interesting selection headache up front with the return of Vaughan.

An incredible loan signing for us and hope we can keep him. He is just what we needed and has inspired the whole team to up their game. CP seems to be learning fast and knows about tactics and that's a nice change.

The whole thing could depend on Wigan's form picking up. I can see Rosler getting the sack before 8th November and any new manager may be a fan of Holt. I think Uwe has made his mind up about him so we best all hope for a few decent results for them imo

Just watched the Bunn's goal back, and Holt did very well to hold off a physical challenge from a defender who was just in front of him when he started running for the ball, before delivering an excellent cross.
Good first time finish from Bunn also.

Not bad for short term. Deffo not a long term solution but least should be able to hold it up, up front Why on earth is he not a long term option? Ask Stearman and Holt what they think.

Too right - he looked a lot fitter than Vaughan, Stead, Paterson and more capable than anything else we have tried up there for a long time. He's still got it - and got it for at least a contracts worth.

He's still got it - and got it for at least a contracts worth. Have you seen what his current contract is reputably worth? Exactly! Wigan paid a reported £2m for him just over 12 months ago and he is getting over £25k a week for the remainder of his 3 year contract. After a grand total of 106 mins in a Town shirt, woe betide him should he get an injury, he'd be written off as a luxury we can't afford if he was unavailable. The way folk talk about him you'd think he was available on a free transfer and be a medium earner. In all likelihood he is costing the club far more than we spent on Beckford. We refused to pay last year's player of the season £20k a week.

This is what you get if you bring in a £28k a week striker

Thats about 2,500 season tickets, wouldn't leave much for anyone else would it?

If anything this is Wigan's fault for giving him such a generous contract, practically pricing him out of any kind of transfer to only a few clubs, even then I doubt anyone would replicate such a contract for a player at 33 years old.

Grant Holt isn't in the Wigan managers plans so loaning him out and paying part of his wages isn't an impossibility.

I'd try and get him until January on whatever deal he's on now and see where we are then. Deano didn't get where he is today without being a good negotiator so i'd leave it to him. Having presumably made enough money to be more than comfortable for the rest of his life maybe Holt would be happy to play for less money for a couple of years than sit in the stands and become a forgotten man. As for Clayton - he was decent but we've replaced him with better and presumably for a lot less money than he was looking for. Middlesbrough are unlikely to finish much higher than us I reckon so i don't think he will have furthered his career much by going there.

Personally I doubt that Holt would settle for less than he has been contracted to receive until June 2016 on what is likely to be his last BIG contract. But as you say that is for the club to try and sort out. Those that are calling for him to be signed up are IMO: a) Being premature - he's here until Nov 8th and let's get a better picture (perish the thought but what if he were to get injured in that Fulham game) b) Are likely unaware of the resources it would take to get him.

If I was his agent I'd be on the phone to Sean Dyche.
