Nice idea. But unfortunately many of the 'true greats' will be overlooked as many of those that vote have never heard of Ian Robins, never mind Billy Smith or Vic Metcalfe. They may have heard of Denis Law and Ray Wilson though, as they were famous.
Mel Booth must have been drinking to include some of the names but I still managed to pick:
Andy Booth Malcolm Brown Trevor Cherry Dave Cowling Jimmy Glazzard Peter Jackson Denis Law Mark Lillis Vic Metcalfe Billy Smith Clem Stephenson Marcus Stewart Ray Wilson Frank Worthington

Realistically, this entire lineup should be picked from the Fa Cup winning team, the League winning squads + Wilson, Law and Worthington (?)
Obviously it's more about cult status so I'm going to stick my neck out and say Rhodes should be included.

Surely the lad who was killed in the 1st world war would be a nice gesture.

Some of the names suggested as 'legends' are a bit laughable IMO. Good to see Jon Worthington on there though!! Denis Law Frank Worthington Ray Wilson Billy Smith Tommy Wilson Alf Young Jimmy Glazzard Vic Metcalfe Sam Wadsworth Alec Jackson George Brown Mark Lillis Malcolm Brown Andy Booth Not a lot of colour photos in that lot, but in truth taking our history as a whole, there shouldn't really be any.

Great idea, shame it can't be done at the stadium where more people would see it.

Perhaps a more balanced idea to ensure a good spread of old and new without it just being based on who voters have seen ( and cos of that largely ignoring actual achievements ) would have been to have increased the number a little and to have chosen two from each decade?

Jon Worthington is a life long Town fan? Aside from that 15 year period where he was a Man Utd fan of course

Wasn't there planning permission to widen the entrance to Canalside and Tarmac the rest of the car park last summer?

What about Terry Stuart Eccles (went on to join the mighty Greek side Ethnikos Piraeus) and Jonathan Philip Robert Newby (14 appearances/0 goals). Whilst not particularly legends they did make me laugh! Seriously though I do think ALEX SMITHIES is worth a place. Overall I believe he has performed very well since he came into the side & his performance in the play off shoot out final is one of the best memories I have of supporting Town.

Peter Clarke.? Mark Lillis played only 13 games in the 1970's and was on the winning side only 3 times. I agree having a vote would result in ridiculous bias to recent years but why look for an equal spread in each decade. Surely the 1920's our main period of success should have a higher presence. No Clem Stephenson Much as I liked them swap him for Duncan Shearer, Peter Clarke or Marcus Stewart (or Larrett Roebuck (I can see the spirit of the gesture but TBF a few weeks ago the comment would have been "Larrett Who?")).

Larrett Roebuck, hardly a club legend, he played 17 times for the club. Think people are getting being a war hero mixed up with being a footballer who played very few times for Town.
Where as the clubs main success was in the 20's no bugger was alive to see it, so whilst these players played a big part in the clubs success no bugger can relate to them. Although I wouldn't deny that certain players from that era don't deserve a place in the roll call of greats.

Legends not just about what they did as a player for Town though. Guess most people would Include Denis Law but Town didn't win anything with him in the side. Weren't even in the top flight. He gets in because of what he went on to do really. Don't suppose any of us will have even heard of Roebuck before last week but being the first player to die in WW1 gives him a unique 'legendary' status in its own way. Hes probably more famous and has more articles mentioning him than much better, more established Town players of his era.
