I wonder if they're able to recall him at any point?

I think if they could, they would. But I don't think they can, erm... man.

It seems the Examiner has set up our friend Ross Wilson as the fall guy should we not get Holt back after December, given Wiagn's statement today coupled with DH's indication on Saturday that we are planning for other options. Examiner saucy link

Doc, I don't think you can set anyone up for this one, Holt is a wigan player, they would only allow short term loans and we have done the best we can. You cant account for wigan sacking their manager at that particular time and you cant account for their serious loss of form.
Even if we could have got a season long deal, it seems it would have been on the knowledge that we could or did unload a number of other players and that's still up in the air a bit.
What percentage of his wages we are paying is also an unknown as it appears is how far off, if at all Vaughan might be from coming back..
lots of anomalies on this one.

Exactly, I don't for a minute foresee Holt returning after December. So why would the Examiner name him as the main hope in what is likely a futile attempt, poor guy gets enough stick anyway, never mind setting him up to take some more.

examiner also says we are playing Bolton at home on the 28th December.. would that be before or after the Rotherham game?? might need the whole squad that day.. hope that wigan win 4 in a row and that fortune scores a shitload??? or dave quits and wigan are left with £2.50 in the babk??

13,000 reasons why we wont sign permanently him evident on Saturday. With gates as low as that we won't ever be signing players of Holts ilk on a permanent basis.

Who knows though, still a chance we may keep him longer, crowds are poor though, as I've always thought ..... Town have an average hardcore home support of about 10 k ish , only increasing by another 2 to 3 k max for very big games. Our stadium is simply too big for us and even more so for the Giants who probably have between 5 and 7 k.

I'm delighted that Holt has given us the much needed lift/spark we needed. I think he's been a really astute move short term. But am I alone in thinking it isn't a tragedy if he goes back to Wigan at New Year? Doesn't it force the club to think in a more permanent, long-term way in terms of signings. Who's to say at 33 Holt hasn't just had a purple patch and his form might just fade away as the season progresses? It might not, I don't know - but to think about a permanent fixture might well be in our (better) interests.

We've seen a small dip already in his last couple of games. Also, whilst I stay realistic, I wouldn't write off a permanent move for him either. Just on the grounds that I think he likes it here.

Vaughan is the 'fly in the ointment'... big wages and big injuries added to length of contract. heres hoping the club and us have something positive on him before January...

If he could play like he did today every match, then I would have to seriously reconsider. Thought he was superb from start to finish.

If we could show those levels of effort and application week in, week out, we'd be looking at the top 6!rather than the bottom 3

I was equally as scathing about him last week, said something about not being bothered if we didn't sign him. Singing his praises this week. This is our right as football fans

Unfortunately 13000 more reasons today; pretty disappointing at £10 and £5 a pop. A penny for Dean's thoughts tonight. Shame; especially given the great match we witnessed.

I'm sure it would Ben but the turn out today, not long after the excellent performance v Forest, is very disappointing, and probably very frustrating for those charged with trying to increase gates.

Yea I can understand that, 13k isn't going to take is forward. Results are the only thing I think that will change it, we have a lot of fickle fans.

I don't even think good results will pull our attendance up much. We've spent a whole decade in the lower leagues which has a follow on effect on young potential fans, especially in such a competitive catchment area. It will pick up slowly over time but still hit a ceiling. It would help us out if Leeds were to drop for a substantial amount of time
