This is very hard! Here's my all time favourite Town eleven Jimmy Lawson Chris Catlin Ray Wilson Jimmy Nicholson Ken Monkou Terror Cherry Kevin McHale Jordan Rhodes Frank Worthington Denis Law Vic Metcalf Best I can do I'm afraid. Need to lay off the acid Jerry. You've got no goalkeeper and two left backs. In general on this thread I think there's not enough love for Paul Dalton, during that six months or so when he could be bothered he was the second best player I've seen for Town (best being Frank).

Phil Senior Danny Adams David Unsworth John McCombe Dominic Werling Malvin Kamara Ian Crainey Lee Fowler Adnan Ahmed Keigan Parker Junior Mendes John McAliskey Manager - Stan Ternent What a team!! At least Parker, Mendes and MacAliskey all scored goals for Town. It must be that you never experienced the precision striking of Brian Greenhalgh. He made such a difference as from 69 to 71 in 15 appearences he failed to score. Thankfully Frankie emerged to fill the void.

Played a few games up top, right wing and at the back. Never scored in 83 appearances. Considering that he had no talent whatsoever, he's had an incredible career!

beefy..
id pay to watch that team.. having 3 left backs seems the least of their problems..bit like Borat, funny but very difficult to watch..

I know it's all about opinions but how anyone can see Peter Clarke as better than Ken Monkou quite frankly staggers me. That's if we're looking at a best XI in terms of a quality one as opposed to an emotionally attached one.

Im 'emotionally attached' to the team that took us into the old top flight, cant help it.. cant remember most of the no marks that followed them up to the Buxton era. Selective memory? most definitely..

That's if we're looking at a best XI in terms of a quality one as opposed to an emotionally attached one. Think you seem to be missing the point, yeah Monkou was a better player than Clarke but Monkou made 20 odd appearances for Town, no affinity with the fans, where as Peter Clarke made god knows how may appearnces for Town, always got stuck in and captained the side to promotion. That's why he's in ahead of Ken Monkou!!!

I'd pay good money to watch that team....I think you might have cracked it. I'd probably have Gorre on the right and Pilks on the left though.

I assume everyone who has included Lucketti is including him from his first spell, cos he was shit second time round.

McNab was not a right back so it will have to be Derek Parkin. Coady is good but unproven so put Cherry in there and then you can have Monkou alongside Lucketti. That's better. I once ran on the pitch after a game and McNab gave me a piggy back - and I can't even remember his position. In my minds eye I had McNab as a right back and Parkin as left - but it must have been the other way round. Derek Parkin was a right back, Bob Mcnab was replaced by Chris Cattlin. We seemed to have an endless supply of quality full backs at the time, Dennis Atkins & Ray Wilson, prior to Bob, Dereck & Chris - those were the days my friend, - UTT.

Any all time list must have Law, Massie, Worthington, Mally Brown, and Wilson. Peter Clarke as captain! To my mind there's never been a REALLY outstanding keeper.Massie a very under-rated player. Thornley - a one-trick pony, not worthy of tying bootlaces. Really? During my time watching Town (since '94) we've been blessed with a few outstanding keepers - including the likes of Harper, Vaesen, Smithies and my personal favourite, Steve Francis. I also really rated Ian Gray and thought he was far better than Division 3 at the time he was at Town... Shitty end to his career too We have had a few shockers, mind. Bartram, Clarke, Norman, Bevan, Senior the ones springing to mind. I do also still have a signed pair of Derek O'Connor's Mitre's.... Remember him? Not sure if he ever made the first team or not. Defo turned out a few times for the Crown, Hecky Sunday's in recent times though Ignore them, we have had loads of good keepers. Poole, Lawson, Francis, Bennett, Starling, Taylor, Rankin etc

Oh, and Harper. No-ones team as yet would get near the 11 I posted. I know its about opinions but my team would destroy any suggestions to date even the old boys who pre-date me.

Bennett, Brown, Cowan, Lucketti, Monkou, Lawson, Nicholson, Pilkington, Worthington, Shearer, Stewart. Since 1970...no-ones team so far would beat this lot. Come on guys, this team is the business. How about I throw in 3 (or 5) subs? Who's team on this thread would beat this 11? Not possible. You might say Charlton for Cowan, you might switch Stewart for Rhodes etc. This team is Prem class!

Since 1972 how many Town players (post or previous) have excelled in the Prem? Frankie, Stewart, Pilks, Monkou, Shearer, Charlton, and Marsden did OK. There is the secret. Cream rises to the top. My team are the best.

I think you are all barmy if you don't have Coady in central midfield.
