Hey up, I know this question has been answered but I cannot remember the answer. Why in 1984 with Newcastle needing a point, backed by 12,000 Geordies did Kevin Keegan not play in his last match before retirement after missing no games all season? Thanks in advance

Maybe he was singing - Ah me lads, ye shud only seen us gannin’,
We pass’d the foaks upon the road just as they wor stannin’;
Thor wes lots o’ lads an’ lasses there, all wi’ smiling faces,
Gawn alang the Scotswood Road, to see the Blaydon Races.

if I remember rightly, the deluded bar codes last match of the season was at home the week after the Town game, so Keegan was conveniently injured for Leeds Road so he could receive the plaudits etc back at St. James's Park - could (and quite possibly) be wrong but that's what I heard at the time

After his 100th game for Newcastle and his 500th game of his career. Apparently. He was saving himself. He has OCD and liked the idea of rounded even numbers. Apparently.

Far from being a legend IMO. He bottled it that day. Best thing he ever did was fall off his bike on Superstars.

Don't take this wrong way but I've heard you're one sided drivel before, why don't you ask someone who was around on the 7th May 1984?

Did you expect him to play? What was excuse for not playing? When did you find out?

I hadn't realised that you were back on DATM with your profound postings and insightful ponderings I know I don't look it but i was actually almost 13 then. I remember the day vividly. I was, as ever, looking forward to a Town match and hoping that we'd win. I admit I was looking forward to seeing a 'star' in Keegan. But he bottled it. My day wasn't spoilt though. I remember Newcastle fans seemingly everywhere. I remember the coins being thrown back and forth between the bottom left hand corner of the Terrace and the Away End. I remember Graham Cooper. It was a good day, and a decent game.

He was injured, I think it was a thigh strain. Years later I met him as manager of Newcastle. He had his lapdog with him, Terry Mac. I helped him buy his wife a glass vase but it was clear to me he was ill with stress. A genuinely nice bloke though.

Well I don't suppose you are, it's his subjective references that are annoying really , why did Kevin Keegan not play in 84 answer best thing he did was fall off his Bike in his opinion ? They'res only Yellow, Yellow, Yellow

Why didn't just answer, I was 13, I was there, thousands of Geordies all sing The Blaydon a Races and like everyone else I gutted when Keegan didn't play??
