It's a good sign that CP is trying to extend our players who are out of contract at the end of the season. I should imagine talks will be taking place with both Harry Bunn and Sean Scannell. Not sure this is a good sign for Gerrard though with Hudson Lynch and Wallace now contracted through the end of next season. link

Hmmm surprised at that, some decent games, some shockers, mainly average. Still only 21 i suppose and doubt he'll be on a massive wage
CP seems to rate him above Gerrard anyway

to say defender usually get better with age he's not bad to say he's 21. Good back up for now too.

Surprised to see him get a new deal, especially 2.5 years as truthfully I don't see a Championship player in him
That said he's still relatively young and I'm happy to trust Powell's judgement. Powell is after all a former England International defender so should know a thing or two about defending - and if he rates Wallace then fair play

Everyone above has picked up on his age and I think that's the key here. He's got good experience already and at 21 he's barely started for a centre back in terms of reading the game. We can't also just keep throwing money at every position and I think he could be worth persevering with.

Decent defender and will only improve with age and experience. I just wish some would have the same patience with the nineteen year old Holmes.

That is a surprise - only 21!
A bit like my elderberry wine then - another 3 years maturing and it/he'll turn out all reet!

I think we should try loan him for a few month now Gerrard is back. Surely first team football will be only good for him.

He's worth over £5m on FM15, two seasons in. We're doing this so we can cash in!

Yes hopefully Powell sees potential and a way to unlock it over the next couple of years. Never easy for defenders being in and out of a side. He's also been played out of position on occasion which did nothingfor his confidence. Recall Grayson playing him at left back away at Leicester and he got a bit of a mauling.

Another nail in the coffin for Gerrard I reckon.
He's been back training, played a couple in the u21's, didn't make the first team squad or the u21s for the last couple of games and Will Boyle travelled with the squad to Ipswich. Wouldn't be surprised to see him out on loan shortly and moved on in January.

I've seen Wallace have some cracking games away from home, but he's not been so good in the home games! He's still young, and maybe he's more relaxed away from home. Still think he'll become a very capable player, so I'm pleased his contract has been extended. I'd keep hold of him for now, but depending on what happens with Gerrard I'd maybe look to loan Wallace out in January, ideally to a top end League One side (or even lower end Championship provided Town are looking good then!).

We can't afford 22 championship quality players. Depth has to be in the form of youngsters who will hopefully improve with age whilst there wages are still pretty low. 21 is very young for a CB as most gain the extra strength required to be dominant in the next few years.

Well done to the lad, done well to earn this imo. CP must rate him.

I think he's underrated and anyone who says "he will never make it at championship level" are just plain daft. He is comfortable on the ball and can only improve with more game time.

the only problem I have with Wallace is he is very slow and runs like he's shit himself.
He's not the fastest or the strongest but he's got a good defending brain. Give him a few years to bulk up a bit and gain some experience and I think Lillis could be right about him being future captain.

Glad to hear - rate him myself.
Unlucky for the lad that he got quite a bit of hype and came here so young...had he come up through the academy/been picked from non league people would rate him higher imo. shame he didnt get a season out on loan but at 21 he's had more good games than bad in the 2nd tier of english football. think he's very much a player who will thrive with the right partner - which could be hudson. he's not the quickest but he's not that type of defender....let him learn from hudson for the next couple of seasons then partner him with a quicker player and i think he can be a very good player for us.
Be interesting to see what powell can do with him given previous coaches were not so defensively astute
