No wonder the garage went tits up, selling Allegros and Rovers. The pinnacle of British motor vehicle in engineering in the 70's when the unions ran the factories.

By my reckoning, that shirt Mally Brown was in was about six years old (all blue shirt from 75ish). I know there wasn't the money floating about there is now, but still...

By the time they sponsored Town I think they'd become a renault dealership. Think it didn't go bust, just moved somewhere else so they changed the name.

I'm pretty certain it was Renault by then, I can't recall where the business moved to though. Those were the days when you could buy a new car without leaving Mirfield Captain. Renaults down at Central Garage, Talbots from Watterroyd garage where the flats are now, just up the road you could get a Peugeot from what us now Flooring 4 you, and there was usually a car in the window up at the garage next to Chelles Deli on Sunnybank.

Sentimentality making a lot of people want to buy one. Maybe the sales of this season atrocious cobbled together thundertwat of a design are low so there's room to shift plenty of these.
Remember getting one Xmas 1982 as a 13 year old. Ive never been more excited about a present before or since!

Got a feeling back in the day, the players shirts had proper embroidered badges. It was just the fans versions that had the crappy sticker. The collars probably about right baring in mind that photo is of a little kids shirt. You're not wrong, Cap. If you check my PRESS PHOTOS page - in MEMORABILIA - you'll see photos of Burke, Cowling, Hotte and Wilson in these shirts. Black and white, so hard to tell, but it looks like the badge was a cloth one featuring a RED design and then stitched as a rectangular patch onto the shirt itself. (Sorry - can't do links with my iPad!)

I left Mirfield in 1980 after living there for 25 years. I cannot remember seeing any shops on the other side of the road . Did they move further along Huddersfield road.

Yes -- that was the Mirfield motors i remember. The railway near the bus station was our meeting place before matches , and we had a massive Mirfield fan base in those days. Felt sorry on match days for the number 21 bus driver . Great memories.

They weren't nicknamed All-agros for nothing. I remember the square steering wheel, the Rover SD1 had an egg shaped steering wheel as well. To be fair, the 3.5 litre Rover Vitesse was a proper car of the day.

As pointed out above it is incredibly itchy. Couldn't the shade of blue of the replica have been just a bit closer to the original?

(Sorry - can't do links with my iPad!) The former Town employee who lifted this shirt for me and another one for his son, assured us that they were worn by the players. I can't challenge him on it now because his ashes are scattered behind the goal at the North Stand end. Mine has a big number ten on the back in red and a stuck on badge. Would the club have had two classes of numbered shirts?

Captain and Mansfield are both right and so am I. There look to have been at least two Central Mirfield shirts with different badges. The team photo of 1982-83 on page 316 of the 100 Years book has a big rectangular badge, but Daral Pugh on page 318 is sporting a wanky stuck on badge like my Phil Wilson one and the team photo for 1983-84 on page 320 is definitely the stuck on badge, as is Paul Jones's on the same page. Perhaps we couldn't afford too much embroidery.

I bobbed into the shop in Town to have a look at the shirt and to be honest I was disappointed with it a little. As you say the colour for a start off, seem to remember it being darker originally than the new replica. I wonder if the Dahatsui ones will come next, although I suspect there could be an issue with use of Daihatsu.

They will have paid to be on the originals Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

MEL --- I can remember seeing a massive MIRFIELD MOTORS sign above the garage as you came from Battyeford towards the small bus station in Mirfield. Maybe the owner had two garages. What is the mentioned building, just past the railway pub being used for these days.
