Blimey, you can't even casually use racial epithets and crudely stereotype a whole people nowadays without the blooming PC Brigade getting on your back. Say it with me folks, "it's political correctness gone mad." It's almost as if people have begun to recognise that ethnic slurs have a complicated and contentious history, one which is often deeply painful and offensive for the people who are on the receiving end, and a bit of a laugh for the people who use them. I, for one, think that's a disgrace. Why? Because it hurts my feelings and means that I have to evolve as a person. Awful stuff. What's 1860munching about? Hope its neither historical slur nor badly aimed misogyny

perspective??? 3 men in court because they planned to behead a member of the public on the pretext of it being a religious act of war and an old fella making some odd comments in an interview? we are in a country that apparently is now seeing the two incidents as roughly being the same, they must do because Whelan got more media time and more pages in the papers.. Time to wheel out the usual suspects and let them unload the chips that are weighing their shoulders down. The rest of the ethnic minorities are too busy getting on.

I personally don't think that the 3 men in court should be highlighted in anyway. By all means praise the authorities who have defeated yet another plot, but sadly the three conspirators will be idolised by some who are easily influenced. Re. Whelan - Isn't about time we heard from the society of black lawyers, they're not usually this late to the party.

I think that's what those folks who collate the Dictionary might call a false equivalence. As you mentioned, those young fellows are in court. Dave Whelan and Malkay Makay are probably at Wigan Athletic FC, as their jobs demand, or sat in the living room's of their no doubt splendid houses.
Just because homegrown terrorists are in court, that doesn't mean that we should all give up the ghost on tacos or other forms of racism.
"I see you've been burgled Mr Jones? Well, it doesn't really matter does it, because the Pakistani government is fighting what is essentially a protracted civil war in the province of Waziristan."
Said nobody, ever.

We didn't highlight this problem coming for a long, long time. Trying to play down the significance and the 'numbers' involved is another mistake. If the government say we are monitoring 2 thousand on a minute by minute basis, you can bet your arse that's underplaying it to some tune.
I bet Dave Whelan has as many if not more people/organisations monitoring him now than a lot of the 'other' clearly less dangerous to British society persons.
perspective..?

Hang on Galpharm.. Did you really just say ( and mean it ) that this country views men planning beheadings on a par with a silly old man spouting off inappropriately ? Did you really just say that ? Even for you I say WOW

1860.. chasing people for some personal thoughts that were taken out of context and which seem to have been poorly chosen isn't the begginings of a new 'nazi' dawn. We are total amateurs in the race/religious hate game and we have willingly imported a load of 'experts' in it over the past 40 years or so. We gave up on world domination and the subjugating of others who were 'different' quite a while ago, the pc brigade in this country seem to ignore this fact all the time. Occasionally someone says something a wee bit offensive, big deal. He didn't preach death and destruction, subjucation to a religion or an idea. He needs a bollocking and he has apologised, which is what lots of people have done recently, some over much more serious issues than this. Galloway, weedled and squirmed a bit but didn't apologise, his words were 'taken out of context, apparently???
perspective please..

Ted;; the media has diverted more attention, time and newspaper space to Whelan. As we have 'learnt' from the Evans case, media and public pressure is what moves the nation??

Nor do you have to preach death or destruction to attract the label 'racist' or 'sexist'. I never said how I thought Whelan should be sanctioned, if at all, and I've heard of noone who's come out and said that they wanted him dragged in front of one of those supposedly ubiquitous PC Kangeroo Courts. I was merely pointing out that what Whelan and Makay said was racist and for that they shouldn't expect to be immune to criticism or consequences.

tacos or other forms of racism. How in the hell can a joke about tacos be racist? I've seen some of the tweets of moral indignation and 'deep heartfelt offence' in response to that joke and it's pathetic. Not the funniest joke in the world, no, but offensive? Come on. Exactly the same thing as me joking about Hose A the Mexican fireman on here the other day. To the folk who missed this 'story', restaurant chain Dave & Buster's is under fire for a tweet about tacos posted Tuesday afternoon that some are calling racist. The joke? 'I hate tacos,' said no Juan ever.

he certainly has had the consequences and definitely a shitload of criticism.. immune???
Whelan and others who have made comments are labelled racists/sexists..
many who spout much more ingrained and dangerous shite are 'misguided' or have been radicalised??? the rest of their groups are then lauded for being nothing to do with them by politicians and their own leaders??? no, they are definitely racist/sexist, homophobic and religious haters..
once we lose all perspective on these incidents but still allow an amount of much worse rhetoric to go by under the guise of religion etc we will not get it back.
strange old chap makes comments taken out of a long interview, does not make football or all concerned with football or any other organisation we now freely claim is 'institutionally racist' a fact.

Now I'm perceiving that as clearly Man Ceimitic and it could be construed as arabaphobic - you have to be careful what you say in life in case the pc brigade jump on your back.

Pull the other one Genuinely ha. Might have involved some deleting and rewording, but I do not consider tacos racist, nor have I heard of this tacogate business. I've never even had a taco. I was going to because we parked in the Chuquitos at Pride Park. Alas, not enough time before the game started.

I've never even had a taco. Tacos are nice but if you're ever offered a quesadilla or two, don't pass it up.

im glad they have chosen football to make a stand..but they had better explain all the rules first.. white men can be racist/sexist or homophobic.. but if a player 'comes out' those with a deep and 'sincere' religious belief wont be expected to come into line.. foreign owners who do not allow women to take part in the running of the clubs will be allowed to continue this practice because its in their 'heritage and religious beliefs'...see the Church of England for details on how that goes for our religions.. you can go on for ever with this one rule for them and one rule for us. You see we are 'stuck in the racist past and clearly need to be brought into line', whilst they have deep and sincere religious/heritage pasts that they must be allowed to adhere to, whichever country they just happen to be in and whatever laws that country has passed. They don't apply to deep and sincere religious beliefs.. Im not stuck in any past, im not tied to a religious dogma, so im obviously just a racist/sexist/homophobe without a good/allowable excuse for being one? ?? Dave should have said he had converted and his views were mainly that of his new religion that would have bolloxed up the enquiry... Or claimed immunity under the George Galloway Act..

At least he steered clear of the real murkey waters of posting unedited images that could be interpreted as giving a misleading impression.
I cannot wait for this new PC venture to run its course.
