I'm willing to bet Suarez would have bagged 2 of Wells chances today. You'd have to agree that he should have netted one of them chances Cod mate? Perhaps that's why Suarez is priced higher than £1.3m More than likely!!

Not sure where you get that 50% stat from AR, but Suarez scored 24 goals last season, and only achieved a 22% strike rate on chances. I'm willing to bet Suarez would have bagged 2 of Wells chances today. You'd have to agree that he should have netted one of them chances Cod mate? Maybe, tell you what though switch it round. We'd have been saying how quick and brilliant Murphy was coming out and standing up to those shots.

I just think we're far more threatening with Wells in the team, he's our top scorer and adds pace and goal threat when on the pitch.Whatever the system is, I'd definitely play him at home. Not sure we needed three holding midfielders today. But hopefully CP learns from today and adjusts this in our next home game. This is true. The fact that he was wasteful today is also true. I really hope we have someone working with him day in and day out on his finishing, otherwise the lad has found his level.

Aye, reckon he was trying too hard to prove a point.
Not the way to do it, but I can understand his frustration and he's only a young lad.
Hope he's back in and scoring goals again soon.

Do you think Holt up front on his own, Wells on the bench and not a shot on target until the 65th minute (when Wells came on) was positive, at home to a side that hadn't won in 9? The last 25 minutes were far more exciting - both sides had chances and both could have won. Risk and reward, isn't it? I prefer volatile shares, for instance, that potentially yield high returns but at more risk. Some people prefer government bonds, say. It's just personal preference. At this stage of the season I'd just have gone for it more, and made the changes sooner (see my post at half time on the match thread). Doesn't really matter what I think though, in fairness. On balance I think this is a game we could have started 4-4-2 even against a team who had one of the best away records in the Div. The thinking I don't understand is that 4-3-3 is a less attacking formation than 4-4-2. If you play two up front you leave a weakness in midfield. At Derby we had 2 upfront but the problem was they, and the wide men couldn't get in to the game because Butterfield and Coady were too hard pressed to pass it out. The frustration of 4-3-3 is that you can dominate the ball - say as we did at Fulham - but not much have much in the box to reward the dominance. The best 4-3-3 games we have played this season have been when Bunn has got in to the box and converted some chances from build ups on the right hand side. I think the big mistake today was not so much the system but playing Poyet. He didn't play that badly as an individual but Coady has been playing so well there I couldn't see the point of changing it and disrupting the team. Good post and spot on re Coady

How did you feel when May hit the bar and post, Drenthe broke away after Lynch's mistake, stonewall pen and 3 late blocks when they should have scored from the corners at the end. All when we were playing two up front in the formation you wanted? Exactly, Powell set's his stall out accordingly and let's face it Wells should have scored. On paper they looked a better side than us and at time's we got lucky, but that is this division for you, anyone probably with the exception Blackpool can beat each other. We needed 3 point's today and one is better than none, so it's onward's and upwards.

there was a chance when he was on his left when he could of just tapped it to Holt across goal and would of most likely been a goal but instead went for the shot.
He's a goal scorer and to me looks like he just wanted to be the hero and get the winning goal to try get back into the team (which you can't blame him for) but late on like that if there is an easier option, you go for it.
God knows what he was doing for his 1 on 1, was no where near off side so don't know why he kept checking every second. PLAY TO THE WHISTLE

Obviously thought he was offside when he spurned our best chance.
Added much needed directness when he came on. Agreed. We were sat in the Kilner more or less in line with him & he was far too pre-occupied with looking at the linseman. Too much going on in his head when he pulled the trigger. Shocking miss really, especially given his ability. I also agree with your other point, but he had a very poor 5 minute spell involving 3 separate incidents. It must de a bit difficult for him at the moment though. Totally unsuited to the lone striker role he was used in earlier in his Town career & when he finally does get a chance to play alongside a player that compliments him so well, he's in & out of the side. Tough one for CP this in my book & one that will test his management skills.

Obviously Powell had his concerns over their physicality and based his selection on that.

All when we were playing two up front in the formation you wanted? Id rather we went for it at home from the off against a very beatable team even if it means more chances for opponents. Reckon we'd have won that starting wells and holt I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you Andy, but who would you have left out to accommodate him? Wednesday are always a big, strong and physical side who break very quickly, as they proved yesterday. I think that starting with Holt, Wells, Bunn & Scannell will leave us too wide open against teams like that.

Probs Poyet (tho i thought he was decent and with hindsight Coady as that was one of his poorer games. Tho i know it doesnt work like that ) Seems to me Powell really wanted to give Poyet a go yet on recent form couldn't drop any of the midfield 4 to make room so Nakhi got the short straw. Just seemed to have no ideas or support for Holt in first half. Main thing was not lose our 3rd in a row i suppose but was hoping we went for it a bit more

Important to stop the losing run, but Nahki is our best goalscorer and must play if we are going to win matches. Tough on Bunn or Scannell, but there it is!

How do you work that out? He needs to build himself up,learn to hold the ball up for others,be a bit more subtle in finishing, a cool chip yesterday would have won the game for us two more years I reckon before we see the best of him.

Have to say I agree with Teds summary of our players. If we have ambitions then we have to look at our full backs. Whilst Smith is young and may well develop Dixon was by far our worst player today. No doubt clubs can see our weakness and look to put pretty quick men on these two to either whip balls in or have a run on goal. With Hammil and Lolley potentially coming back soon I cannot see that Ward will be no more than a bench player at best. This is a competitive league and if we want to compete Powell knows some harsh decisions need to be made. It would be better to try to get some of our fee back for Ward in January rather than let him go on a free at the end of the season. Like many have said it would have been good to see two men up front from the start however hindsight is a wonderful thing. Today we lacked impact and intensity which allowed Sheffield to comfortably deal with most of what we tried to put together. Apart from hitting the bar/post they also had little to offer and the draw was a fair result. You obviously didn't see the shot in the first half that after a run by their centre forward across our box (a weak shot from a very presentable chance), the great save made by our goalie in the second half or the penalty incident (which was a penalty IMO). Town, on the other hand, didn't have a shot until the 30 min mark, and didn't have one on target until after an hour had been played. Not a terrible performance by any stretch, but I would argue Wednesday did more to win than we did.

He was the same today. Good team player but even with his new boots he couldn't hit a barn door from 6 feet away. Trying to bust back of net with every shot....

Having said that, take the keeper out of the equation how many barn doors would he have hit?

For what it's worth, against Wednesday Grant Holt very clearly and loudly called him a 'greedy c***' for not squaring it to him and opting to shoot straight at the keeper instead.

Having said that, take the keeper out of the equation how many barn doors would he have hit? Yeah makes it a difficult game that, having goalies. Perhaps not blasting it straight at the keeper isn't the best option then......

Not being able to 'hit a barn door' implies he regularly misses the target, I only recall his first attempt going wide.

Anyway, I thought we'd already ascertained that the goal is actually bigger than most barn doors.

He's just on a run at the moment when he can't do anything right. Totally lacking any confidence & hence composure, never more evident than when clean through on the keeper at 2-1.
He can finish though & is getting in lots of good positions. He just needs a goal & then I'm sure everything will drop into place again.

On the plus side he is getting into position to miss these chances, only a great save from the Brentford keeper kept him off the score sheet yesterday.
