Great result for them tonight beating Saarfampton.
So, what would you take? (1) Promotion (followed by mediocrity) in the Championship, or (2) an FA Cup semifinal and a League Cup semifinal (at least), with always a good chance of getting promoted from League 1?

Promotion every time, cup runs are quickly forgotten. Ask any Pompey fan if he would trade his FA Cup memory for a place in the Championship.

Depends. Yeovil may well be happy with being back in League 1 and a FA cup tie with Man United, they were never going to be long term participants in the championship, so if you asked a Yeovil fan a similar question, they would probably take the home tie with Man United rather than being in the championship for (perhaps) one more season.
For us though, championship status every time.

Or when Chesterfield came within a poor ref's decision of beating Middlesboro (back when Middlesboro were good) to make the FA Cup final? I've seen us promoted. I've not seen us in the semis or the final of a major cup competition. Ask any Pompey fan if he would trade his FA Cup memory for a year in Lg1.

I knew this question would come up - championship all the time!

Championship all day long.
Imagine going back to playing Stevenage, Hartlepool etc on a Tuesday night in February instead of a Derby, M'boro etc

Alas Town will never ever do what Sheff Utd have done. Was an interesting debate on talk sport today trying to get any clues as to how teams like Sheff Utd seem to do so well in cups like they have done recently. Atmospheric grounds may be a factor ? Good ground, enclosed and 20 k last night.

Not the point really, just Hudders have rarely had any cup runs to talk about in modern times. Can't say why ? We all hope we can have a good run but it is highly unlikely imo.

Cup run.
We've had 2.5 years of mediocrity in this division and not had many exciting moments. Cup runs beating some of the top teams in England would be far more enjoyable than another defeat at Derby or Leeds

A cup run brings a lot of excitement, we badly missed out on a potentially good chance last season. I hope Enoch brings us better fortune. Once you make the 5th round it suddenly gets serious..2 games away from a Wembley semi final..TV coverage etc etc...plus of course the ££££'s

There is no reason we can't have both, cup runs and constant Championship football. Our League Cup record is absolute garbage, in my lifetime the furthest we've reached is round 4, our FA Cup record is no better, the 5th round a few times, god knows the last time we reached the quarters. This is why the crowds stay low, how can you build crowds on the back of shite like this.

Worth remembering too, that a good cup run can be a catalyst for improvement in the league. Remember our form before we progressed to the latter rounds of the Autoglass Trophy in 1994? Then what happened the following year? Remember where Sheffield United were in the league before last year's cup run?
Doesn't have to be either/or.

I'd say just look at Bournemouth. Top of the championship and playing Liverpool tonight. No reason we can't have both.. although obviously those fuckers are way overspending.

Overspending or not its exciting for the fans, plus if they win promotion they'll get away with it, all that brass they'll make.

They'll get away with it anyway in that the punishments are a mere slap on the wrist.

Shows what a good side bornmuffs are even at 3-1 down, unlucky. Play some good stuff.

They were shit in the first half. Wilson missed a sitter and their pressing play and defending was shocking.

I've watched Town since 1975 and never seen Town get to the Play offs for the Premiership or get to the quarter final of a major Cup Competition. Must be loads of smaller teams have done at least one of them. Would be nice to see some kind of success at some point to keep folk interested, I can understand why we don't get more in the ground.
