For me he had a good first half a season and never recaptured that form. He always threatened to be a good attacking full back but it never materialised.
He is not good enough to play CM and even as cover Gobern is ahead of him.
A poor decision to re sign him by town imo but looks like we've got out of it early.
Some good shipping out by Powell & board.
We need quality not quantify.

Agreed re poor decision to re sign him particularly as a bloody centre back - another incompetent piece of summer recruitment by robins! Decent full back but never had a run of games there so best to let him leave for pastures new now.

Let's hope they don't go cold on him. A slow burner?

You could have best RB in the world but if there's no-one to cover him when he's injured then you're knackered really. IMO you need two players for every position, so basically a 22 man squad, supplemented with youth/loan players when needed to cover large numbers of injuries

Nice in theory but I think we're better off following Burnley's approach and having a strong 13 & trust them then youngsters to supplement the squad.

Pretty much our squad that haven't been out on loan. GK: Smithies, Murphy. RB: Peltier, Smith. RCB: Hudson, Gerrard. LCB: Lynch, Wallace. LB: Robinson, Dixon. RM: Hammill, Scannell. RCM: Butterfield, Hogg. LCM: Coady, Gobern. LM: Ward, Lolley. CF: Vaughan, Wells, Bunn, Holt.

I'm not saying you need 22 top or even middling championship players, but you ain't gonna get very far on 13 either. Not quite sure that you're Burnley example works, they had more than 13 championship quality players. With a small squad you're relying a lot on good fortune, and more often than not than can be far more costly than investing in decently quality cover for your main players.

Personally I think Peltier is a very good 2nd choice right back at this level.
I don't see much point letting him go unless
a) Theres decent money on the table
and/or
b) Theres a better right back available to bring in.

I would prefer we benefit on the pitch with the incoming players even if we don't get a bargain. The offloading of Stead, Paterson, Ward, Peltier and Hammill (on loan) should give us significant wiggle room on wages and fees to start adding bigger pieces to CP's plans whilst supplementing the first team squad with youngsters from the development squad who need to be able to produce in bitparts for us. Holt can't have been cheap either

A chance to move on a non first-teamer who was signed for free on a 3 year contract probably on decent wages too as the manager that signed him made him captain. I can't help thinking that for a new manager trying to reshape the squad we have done excellent work for Powell in the first 2/3 of the window. It is now his and the club's job to gt in his targets to help us progress up the table.

Bring in 3-4 quality first team players now and we should be in a much stronger position. Easy this football lark! Getting a fee for Ward and potentially Pelts is great business. Some big wages off the wage bill too, plus Holt's wage contribution. Phase one complete, now for the signings!

A striker is now a must this window the other two can wait until summer imo.

They've played the same players for 3 seasons now. They are struggling now after several injuries but the team togetherness and familiarly has served them well. Yes perhaps 13 is a bit low. Really what I'm saying is focus our resources on the best first 11 we can get & say 4 good squad players, rather than the last few years when we've had thousands of wages going to squad players sometimes not even in the match day squad. That has also been down to several managerial changes. Some stability for a few years now will help no end imo. Powell is a bit negative but he will go for it more with better players and our young ones maturing like coady.

I'm a big fan of wells and Vaughan. One class striker would do me. No idea who we might be able to get tho??? Rhodes back on loan perhaps? Late play off charge... I think it's my bed time

Powell said he has had no contact from Cardiff City amid reports the Welsh club are interested in defender Lee Peltier, who has been on the fringes at Town.

I'm quite aware that we don't possess the riches those clubs do thanks, but that doesn't mean that each position can't be backed up a player who can make a serious bid for a first team place.

Peltier came in as team captain and will be one of the clubs top earners (certainly in the top 20%). We can't afford the luxury of having players on big contracts sat on the bench and not involved. We lose millions every season which Hoyle props up but we need to close the gap on the loses (unless fans are prepared to take a big increase on season ticket prices?)
We can find a cheaper option to cover at right back for half a dozen games a season than Peltier

peltier and stead are examples of why you never go back to a club you were a success at. peltier was awesome in the whole of his first season here at start of second season he suffered wit an injury and suspension but then again found his form and even provided cover at centre mid, his link up play wit pilks down that right was excellent. before window closes we need 2 strikers and just as importantly we need right back cover.

Hopefully something can be sorted where we get Brayford, apparently hasn't settled in Cardiff and wants to come back to Yorkshire, who can blame him hey? Sheff Utd kean but surely we can lure him instead.

I think the ley to this deal could be mr coady who played with last season if he gets in his ear about the training facilities here and how he can make the right back spot his own and surely the championship is a bigger draw for someone with ambition than another failing effort at a playoff campaign for the blades!

The 'rob the rich people' was supposed to be a joke - you are the Sherrif of hudds apparently. But you said we need two players for every position. We probably have more than three if you look at the full squad. If you expect to have 22 players with 2 for each position that are all first teamers then you must be wanting quality players by default. Once again I repeat - we are not Man ure or chelski - get real.

Yet he's currently just about got 1 quality player for each position. (Quality is used loosely in some cases)
