Whilst travelling to work in York this morning, Major delays were causing traffic problems due to a serious incident on the A64 near York race course, It was apparent that a unknown person had either jumped from the bridge near Bishopthorpe or walked into the path of a oncoming lorry, This caused a further 7x car pile up behind the incident, Once in York the stories circulating backed up the orignal story that a man had jumped from the Bridge, I am in shock to now find out that the man in question is Clarke Carlise a man who has suffered with depression and appeared to be over the worst concentrating on other footballing matters, Clarke was airlifted to Hospital and has life threatening injuries, I am sure i speak for all of us on here wishing Clarke and his family our best thoughts and hope that the footballing family rally around to support him, I am honestly blown away by this incident

I've just read about it and, like you, I could hardly believe it. Hope the news is ultimately good for him and his loved ones.

Jeez, read it but thought it was a car crash. Shocker, Gary Speed all over again, but in this case he had previous issues in the open.

Anyone who watched the documentary he did a while back talking about his career, Depression, Footballing matters and his kids will understand the shock factor behind this.

I must admit I have every sympathy for those in the depths of depression but involving innocent parties is unnecessary and something that minimises the sympathy I held for them.

always bugs me when people talk about depression and mental illness and assume its just a mood thing. people forget the brain is just another organ in your body that can malfunction. to do something like this, Clarke must have been suffering terribly. anti depressants are a help but not the answer.
feel so sorry for anyone who has that dark cloud descend over them and feels that they have nobody who can understand what they are going through. to try to end it all makes it all so sad.
(IF INDEED HE HAS TRYED TO TAKE HIS OWN LIFE - AND THIS ISN'T JUST A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT)

Terribly sad for all concerned and obviously his mind was not fully logical at the time but this is precisely why he can be expecting a prison sentence in due course.

I don't think there's any pretty way to do what he may have attempted to do.
Get well soon CC lad.

He's ill, not a criminal.

Ok maybe I'm contradicting myself here but maybe if people can't say anything nice maybe not say anything at all ? The Facebook generation feels the need to have an opinion about everything.. Before establishing the facts, and before maybe realising how hurtful and hateful they are being.. So maybe best to leave your powder dry on this one or it could soon turn nasty and libellous

Attempted Suicide was decriminalised over 50 years ago!

Ted is correct with what he has written, try and be nice everyone, awful incident at anytime of year and it isn't yet conformed thst it was anything more yhan a accident, I have quoted what was widely been reported at the time of the incident, yet this could simply be a accident, I also agree with the other poster who said have thoughts for the lorry driver and emergancy services, also the yaa which took him to hospital a charity which we as a club have strong links with, I just felt a great deal of shock when hearing it was carlisle because of simply who he is,

Sorry but that is an opinion that I am glad is not mine! As yet no one knows the facts and when/ I they come to light and it turns out he did attempt suicide? a prison sentence is the last thing he will need or get.He will hopefully recover and get the help needed IF this is what happened.

Before establishing the facts, and before maybe realising how hurtful and hateful they are being.. So maybe best to leave your powder dry on this one or it could soon turn nasty and libellous Methods of suicide do seem to have a different cachet - I heard of a guy who drove his car down a ravine in Snowdonia, then took a shitload of digoxin (to stop his heart) and barbiturates (to send him to sleep.) No one even found him for a year. That guy really wanted to die. I think it's ok to be sympathetically critical of wanting to kill yourself in such a public way that it makes dozens of strangers complicit, while still recognising that that desire itself is a symptom of the illness.

Attempted Suicide was decriminalised over 50 years ago! Surely not by any means? I hope he gets well soon & any further help that he needs. However I also hope that he takes full responsibility in due course for endangering others.
