Worst thing about today is Hogg's red card, need him in as many games as possible right now.

Last year we had a chance to get to the 4th Round. Today we had a chance to get to the 4th Round. Both against mediocre Championship teams. Both at home, both ended 0-1. Town failed, both times, don't see the difference personally. Last year it was a fourth round tie not a third - we'd beaten Grimsby in the third (3-2, last minute OG). For what it's worth it didn't help last year that the draw put Charlton with Sheffield Wednesday in the 5th, then Sheffield United in the QF. Awful performance today (two man midfield does not work when the opposition have 3 across the middle - Coady and Hogg weren't in the game at all and were chasing shadows). Oops, sorry about that! My mistake, but the principle is still the same.

Well if our midfielders aren't good enough to play in a two, they aren't good enough full stop. Add two central midfielders to the January shopping list Deano

Lost against a poor reading team, lost against a very poor brum team, threw away a two goal lead to a poor rovrum team just managed a win against a terrible Bolton team lost (still can't understand how) to a shite Fulham team oh and lost to an awful Bolton team away. I'm fed up of excuses from management. If their that awful why are they beating us so easily? I genuinely believe we have a solid mid table squad so why are we languishing in the bottom six? Players don't want it or happy to settle for 21st place? Poor management? Or is the overall picture the fact that we are little ol Huddersfield and I just view my beloved team through rose tinted lenses? The clubs only ambition is to stay up. Nothing else seems to matter, that's my opinion. Paying fans will only put up with religation battles for so long before they lose patience.

well if dean hoyle reads this, and wants to know why crowds are dwindling away...that was my first visit to watch town in a month or so, and will be my last this season. A totally awful game, with not a single shot at goals by either side for an hour.,..town's tactics were negative and predictable with no inventiveness or passion. If I hadn't had a lift to the game, I'd have left at half time ...the final score was entirely predictable.
I'm a long term town fan, but I won't watch that boring tripe, at any price.

we went 4-4-2 but WE played READING today.. Town didn't set out to do anything other than negate Reading, which in truth wasn't too hard but it became just a durge of long stuff, fallings out and niggles and stoppages.
forget 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 and any other formation, we could concede with all 11 back all game and we may not score with 9 forwards on the pitch.
we set out in the hope of sneaking something, maybe reading scoring early doors might have helped. Its ridiculous to hope that we go behind early on to liven the whole thing up a bit, but its probably our best bet...
it started very slowly and poorly and just got worse, even going behind didn't seem to bother us too much, they just looked like they wanted it to be over from very early on.. not acceptable at all.

Cos we have been mostly tripe for the last 40 years well actually I am...and I've seen rubbish many times, but mainly because the players we had is all we could afford, and weren't very good..but at least they put their best efforts into it. i don't mind that, that's honest toil. But today, and in recent years...nah, not for me anymore...there is never any excuse for not trying..not thinking about the game...not wanting to make a difference... You can have this if you want, but it isn't for me anymore...

Hating going out but it doesn't feel half as bad as going out last year. We had a real chance of going places last year and threw it away. Last year we had a chance to get to the 4th Round. Today we had a chance to get to the 4th Round. Both against mediocre Championship teams. Both at home, both ended 0-1. Town failed, both times, don't see the difference personally. That's because you're thinking the Charlton game was in the 3rd round. Last year we got to the 4th round and had a great chance of going a lot further. Robbed yet again by a poor ref who should have sent Dale Stephens off for an assault on Hammill. 3rd round was beating Grimsby at their place, late comeback from us - Pato and a late og saw us through.

What is surprising is that we are (as long-suffering fans) continually surprised. A more negative, boring, useless cup side (where fight is needed) cannot surely be found amongst the 92. Frankly we are an embarrassment. Blyth would have beaten Town for sure. I sincerely believe we must have totalled the least number of shots 3 seasons running in the entire football league. The clubs continued claims of "pride and passion" ring very hollow today. Powell, another false dawn. They pulled down the "Shambles" in the town years ago...shame it was not the Leeds Road one.

I am going to give Reading a little bit of credit although both teams looked particularly dour. Reading were very well organized and as in previous games when Town have attacked down the flanks the defences have had two players covering and cancelled out Towns attack.
I was hoping we would create more with both Vaughan and Wells up front but in reality they hardly got a decent ball all afternoon . If we buy anyone in the transfer window I would like to see someone in the mould of Leadbeater at Boro or Prichard at Brentford . We desperately need this type of attacking Midfielder and I was hopeful that Holmes would break through into the first team and be that player.
We will probably find out next week when we play Watford how dangerous a really committed attacking midfieder can be if Foresterie is playing .

Worst game I have seen in years , for the second year running we have gone out in a whimper ! Reading did a number on us , they where very clever, they worked the ref out very early when mackie went unpunished in the first minute. The Hogg sending off was regretable but thats what happens when the referee lets the Reading player pick the ball up and run away with it , he was weak all game. Having said all that Town where woeful.

That's an understatement I was there and I kept forgetting Grimsby were a non league side by the way we were playing. Very lucky indeed. I'm becoming more deluded by the game. Results matter that's for sure but pride in your performance will get the supporters behind you and eventually your luck will turn and the right results will follow. But watching that lifeless go through the motions dross is beyond even the most diehard town fan. Everyone has an opinion and that's the good thing about this forum. Mine would have been to have played a few of the young ones yesterday or fringe players if the game didn't matter like they showed it didn't. I reckon they would have showed more passion than that show yesterday. A 3-1 loss with effort would have been more pleasing and that says something in it's self

And it was Norwood who put the pass thru for the goal, he didn't do anything else

Everything about Town was lack lustre yesterday. The warm up was poor , shots clearing the safety net into the NS , even the ball boys didnt turn up !

Hands up those who remember the Wimbledon game yrs ago, FAC 5th round and all we had to do was take it into the corner flag to waste the last minute or so...
Equally for those talking about going out with your head held high, it's worth replaying this one...

Rodney Rowe who was coaching some youngsters at Half time I think it was the Birmingham game scored in that game. We even took the lead in the replay . If only we could display a smidgen of the passion Sheffield United show in cup ties then it would be acceptable. I am still seething at Saturday, s performance !
