He's a good fourth choice midfielder. Happy with our central midfield options. A striker and a defender short currently. Possibly a winger with two leaving.

Though he played really well today - still cannot understand why the guys sat a couple of seats away were booing him. Looked a bit like Jeremy Kyle material so decided not to say anything to them - but when Watford scored they then booed everything Smithies did thereafter. Surely the stewards should be allowed to eject people who have not brain cells. Really enjoyed today but these fans (no) spoiled it a bit.

What about that shot in the second half from 25 yards? Outside of the boot. 10 yards wide Given it was on target but took a deflection that we were awarded a corner from, I'm not really sure why it deserves laughing at?! I THINK the keeper wouldn't have got it had it not been deflected wide.

He was ok and played his part in a very good team performance. I still think he was one of our weaker links though. Gives the ball away too often and off the ball he always seems caught in two minds as to where he should be. For me, Hogg has to be straight back in.

Don't think he was though. Think he was on about the one he toe poked high and wide from the edge of the box. Watford were awarded a goal kick.

If people thought Gobern was our worst performer then IMO they are letting their previous opinion on him cloud their judgement of today's game. Thought he did really well, particularly in breaking play up. Passing was a bit off at times as to be expected having not played much.

Key role in two of the goals! Must keep the shirt or there's no incentive for any fringe player. People who talk about giving the ball away seem to have forgotten how poor Hogg's passing often is.

Last season I would agree with you but Hogg's passing has improved immeasurably this season. I would bring Hogg back in but tell both Coady and Hogg that their standards mustn't slip because Gobern has now gained the trust needed of a manager with today's display and he is now not far behind them for a starting place.

I'll try put my interpretation of it simply. Last week Hogg was sent off meaning missing the game against his old club Watford who are on a very very good running including winning their last 3 away games. Team sheet arrives. Gobern in. I sigh a bit. This guy hasn't played for months at first team level he came in today and did a job, for those who are saying hes shite after his first game back give your heads a shake and give him a chance. He did well today especially in the second half against a top championship team in Watford. I'm not particularly a gobern fan but some of you lot really need to give your heads a shake and support the Players who give their all for HTFC.

Not on the same level as Hogg or anywhere near it and i doubt he ever will be IMO, but to be fair he did ok today by his standards, especially considering his lack of games. The effort was there which is a big reason why it was one of his better games. He REALLY needs to work on his right foot though. It beggars belief how anyone can be a pro footballer and be so tragically one footed and for a central midfielder its even more of a handicap.

Squad player at most!!! absolutely inaccurate and obviously prejudiced observation imo, yes, some of his passing was errant, and a couple woeful, but the vast majority were decent passes to a Town player, and a few were incisive. everyone is welcome to an opinion i suppose, but some of the keyboard warrior types having to dish out crap on our own players can be very annoying.

Squad player at most!!! 64% pass completion rate for Gobern today. Interestingly most of his failed passes were when going direct up the pitch, it also looks like on average these were typically longer than his more successfull short little sideways and backwards possession keeping passes.

It also says he won 67% of his tackles whereas Coady didn't win any.

Not dishing out crap on town players , just don't think Gobern is a good passer, and for me doesn't do enough to start games, but that's my opinion and if you think it's annoying Tough shit!!!,

For what its worth, of the defensive and possession retention stats related to our midfielders...(and note I can't vouch the 100% accuracy of this, but they're comprehensive, and comparable)
PassCompl TackleSuccess AerialDuelWins Interceptions Clearances Fouls Gobern 64% 67% 50% 1 3 0 Coady 75% 0% 0% 5 2 0 Butterfield 72% 33% 0% 0 3 1 Scannell 77% 100% 0% 1 0 0
Probably not worth reading too much into the tackle %'ages, its surprising how few tackle attempts are made in modern football, most change over of possession is as a result of forcing a mistake rather than old fashioned going and winning a ball that another player has at his feet (Scannell made one tackle attempt for his 100%).
Maybe from the stats you could presume that Coady is better at reading what the opposition will do with the ball, with his superior number of interceptions?
Looking at the more attacking related data...(personally I think this doesn't really tell you much, the number of events (as with the tackling above) are too low to demonstrate interesting statistical variance.
(X/Y numbers are X successful out of Y attempts)
Shots KeyPasses Assists Crosses TakeOns Gobern 3 0 0 0/0 2/3 Coady 0 2 0 0/5 1/3 Butterfield 3 2 0 5/8 0 (2 of Butterfields crosses also considered as key passes) Scannell 2 1 0 1/3 0/1

I think some are too quick to have a go at Oscar. When did he last play 90 minutes for the first team? He did very well overall and needs game time to fine tune his decision making and passing. He certainly passed a lot better today than JV did. He's still a young lad and needs confidence and support as Scanz did before he became more consistent.

Other interesting info in the stats are that...Vaughan generally faded away through to the 65th minute or so, but his game improved after his goal. Wells game gradually built up throughout the game, and continued to head upwards after his goal...this is a very positive sign.

I don't know if it was a coincidence but I thought Coady looked a lot better today playing alongside Gobern.

Cannot believe some of the comments about Oscar today. He was arguably MOTM, for me he was, followed closely by Robinson. Clearly he is the unfortunate victim of fans not forgetting previous. He won so many balls today and vaughans goal was started by Oscar. Hogg will return next week but I'm delighted by Oscars performance today.
