Hi guys, Dundee United fan in peace.
The rumour doing the rounds up here, is that Dixon's close to returning to United. I just wanted to know what you think the chances are if this happening. Is he out of favour under your new manager? How has Dixon done since he joined you?
Cheers guy, Arabest for the rest of the season.

I quite like him actually.
However if we are to be pushing on next season we probably need better - if we could keep Robinson that will do for me!
Be a solid signing for you though.

Wouldn't be surprised. Too good to be warming a bench but just not quite as good as Robinson at the moment

Wouldn't suprise me. Seems out of favour and we are getting rid of alot of players.
I would imagine that we would be looking for someone in before he left and no offense he would be probably aiming to play higher than Dundee, he is a good championship left back in my opinion.
I doubt you'd find many town fans wish him anything but the best of luck. He's just fallen behind the 8 ball in terms of the quality of out team.

Football is a game of opinions and like a lot of players Dixon splits them. haven't seen any rumours of him leaving Town and as we have a current left back on loan from QPR Dixon is our only real cover for him. Personally, I like him but he has never quite fulfilled his promise at Town and he has had plenty of opportunities to do so. He was bottom of the stats last year for pass completions and at Championship level giving the ball away is a problem. I would like to think we are an improving side but I am not sure that Dixon is good enough for a side hoping to push for the play offs in coming years.

Some would be sad to see him leave, the majority though have now realised he isn't what we need. One of those players that promises a lot but ultimately has delivered next to nothing, his running with the ball and crossing was very impressive when he first came but that's become few and far between, there's never any end product and he's defensively poor most of the time imo. He's been dropped from the team by consecutive managers so I would imagine the club would be happy for him to leave. I'd imagine the lad himself would be glad to go home too so may work out nicely for all concerned. Good luck, hope it works out well, I'm sure a change of scenery may be just what he needs to kick on again, I know he's said in the past he wants to be playing.

If Powell wants two good players in each position then we shouldn't be letting Dixon go anywhere

Always shows potential, but never quite become the finished article ..too prone to daft mistakes to be a reliable member of our newly assembled squad.
No doubt when (if)he leaves he'll suddenly find amazing form and be a star player...as is the norm now it seems..

I can't see him going anywhere unless we get a replacement in
Decent on his day, exposed too much in the Championship. Not as good going forward as we hoped when he signed for us.

Can imagine there being some truth in this tbh. Especially as apparently Edgar can cover most positions across the back four and we have the 3-5-2 option as back-ups.
Dixon isn't good enough for where we're trying to be so if the option is there to get some money for him, we may as well take it.
There's also Jake Carroll in a real emergency and the lad O'Donnell who's on trial, although by all accounts he had a shocker on his u-21 bow.

Technically Dixon is a pretty sound player, but his awareness, concentration and reading of the game is poor. As pointed out above, a steady stream of defensive lapses and his flat footedness in defence has lead to Grayson, Robins and Powell all dropping him for a stint. But testament to him, he's always seemed like he's got his head down and worked hard to get back in the side and done ok initially when he has.
For me his level is Scots Prem/Top end League 1/bottom 4 or 5 Championship. If we want to move forward, Dixon won't be part of the plans, but as a squad player I'd imagine he'd be excellent to have at our level, just probably not an affordable one for a club like us...

Dixon. Good going forward but defensively prone to lapses of concentration. Possibly one of the players leaving in the deadwood cull.... although he's better than some of the defensive players we've had of recent times.

Good going forward, defensively suspect at this level. Still, had much worse left backs in recent times.

I wouldn't really be bothered if he went, never rated him and we have back up if Robinson got injured, maybe it could be a make way for one of there players to come here but can't see that either

Makeshift in a deal for GMS/Ciftci? GMS has signed a pre-contract with Celtic And no disrespect to Huddersfield, but Ciftci's Far too good for you. Fenerbahce and Toulouse are sniffing about.

Not really, if it's true. I reckon Messi and Ronaldo are probably far too good for us.

Lynch has been awful at left back when we have tried him and we lose too much from the centre

Dundee United consider full-back swap

BBC Scotland's Jim Spence reports: Keith Watson has now joined Hibernian on loan from Dundee United until the end of the season. United are keen to bring another full-back, Huddersfield Town's Paul Dixon, back to Tannadice.

In short though, we can cover Robinson for the odd game - if he were to get crocked longer term, then there's an emergency loan window open until late March. I doubt CP would be happy utilising PD at left back for longer term anyway, so may as well move him on

Too good? Dundee are hardly world beaters are they and lets be honest the standard of Scottish football is crap compared to English.. Says a lot when Danny Cadermarteri went from League 1 (bench warming) straight into the Dundee team who play in the Scottish 'Premiership'.
