Having been today this is my take on what we need for next season.
New Right Back New left Back Old head in midfield who can pass and keep hold of the ball Tall strong mobile quick centre forward
The above are based on Robinson going back to QPR Edgar ( hopefully back to Birmingham) Miller ( not for us) poor touch, rubbish in the air, not good enough. We can strengthen the squad in other places subject to Gerrard Gobern Etc all leaving but I honestly think 4 good players is all we need to make a push for the playoffs

put 4 others in the team, play the pressing game one week and something akin to kick it forward the game after and the results will pretty much stay as they are now..
we cant afford to change the squad too much, we need to pick a way to play and stick to it, not play the opposition and change it every week.. clearly it might backfire now and again but it might just cut down on the number of nothing performances we produce..

Tall strong mobile quick centre forward
It's championship, not Premier League!

I agree with the OP.Four quality players should be enough, together with the emerging talent being given a chance.
The guys we have on loan now aren't the sort of quality we need if we want to progress next season. A couple of young lads from the premier league on season long loans (A tall, mobile centre forward & defender) together with a couple of experienced operators shouldn't break the bank.

Tall strong mobile quick centre forward It's championship, not Premier League! Its not FIFA manager either. I do wince every time the "quality player" tag is thrown out.

We just need to be smart in the market just because they have a well known name doesnt mean they are right for us... First we need to settle on a style of play we definately be using as dont think CP knows exactly how he wants to play yet due to personel he has in the squad already.
We could get right players with right attributes in different leagues at right ages and prices we just need to play market right

Im looking forward to see exactly what Powell can bring in and build.
Thinking about it, our wage bill will be substantially lower in May than it was at the start of the season. When the loans of Robinson, Edgar and Majewski are done our squad will look lightweight at best, so I think we should be looking at a minimum of 6 new players coming in during the Summer.
We need a new striker, a real quality playmaker in midfield and a stronger back line.

I would like to see us take a chance on Devante Cole, even if its just a loan.

I've said it before, if Edgar and Miller are examples of Powell's signings (even if they can be got rid of at the end of the season) it doesn't bode well.

I would like to see us take a chance on Devante Cole, even if its just a loan. Probably every club bar the top 6 in prem would be looking to take a chance on him aswel so i doubt hes going to be coming here. Maybe a loan next year but again, there will be a heck of a lot of clubs after him. We have more chance of going for players like Bunn and smith who are being released by the prem teams academies and who havent set the world alite but have shown quality is there to be improved on.

We need a top class centre back with experience at premier level.
If we really want to challenge for play offs we must keep the back door shut.
Morgan at Leicester or Distin. Someone of that standard.
No more half measures. Lynch is class but just too injury prone.
If there's any way to sign Robinson then I'd make that a 2nd priority.
3rd priority a striker who can take pressure off Vaughan. Win headers and hold up play. Miller is not the answer imo.
A midfield squad player with experience who can support Butterfield/coady/Hogg.
A lot to ask of dean really. 4 quality additions but with these, luck with injuries, a bit of momentum, we could get into play offs.

I do not like naming individual players but strengthening the defence must be priority in the summer. I did like the look of Pritchard when we played Brentford and was informed that he was on loan from Tottenham . Pritchard looked just the type of player Town seem to be lacking.I think we have to be realistic and look at improving players from the lower leagues.

how about we build a team from the back? instead of trying to bring in individuals to put into various positions, we start at the very back, and build a side from there. just a thought.....

I can see a few not particularly skillful, big units coming in to try and help us secure those 0-0 draws at home to shite opposition

Town could put in a top six challenge next season providing they can bring in a few " championship quality "defenders who can provide the consistency which might go a long way to putting right towns abysmal defensive record. . Nobody can tell me what we witnessed at Charlton was what the team had been practising all week on the multi million pound canalside training facilities. On the positive side , the likes of Scannell Bunn Butterfield and Coady have proven that they can mix it with the best in this division. What i am looking forward to seeing next season is a team that Powell will put together in the close season, and a tight budget does not mean that decent championship quality players cannot be found on footballs ever increasing scrap heap.

We need two new full backs as at the moment we've not got a decent one and it's knackering the balance of the team, weakening our defence and holding back the team pushing forward. Sort this and we'll have a cracking and consistent team on our hands.

At the Q&A in the Vanbrugh before the game David Taylor expected summer recruitment to be same out as in, i.e. to maintain a smaller squad at the current number.

Said for the past few years that we need a No.10 who will bridge the gap between midfield and attack. Still waiting.

Replace them all and if that doesn't work keep buying more and more. That will bring the consistency we're looking for.

Replace them all and if that doesn't work keep buying more and more. That will bring the consistency we're looking for. Or play them all, and let them develop some consistency. If all our players could regularly score 7 or 8 out of 10 in the ratings, we would comfortably be a top 10 side, with an eye on the top 6. It'll be interesting in the summer with regard to a few positions. We clearly need either Jack Robinson or a good quality replacement, and we need some pace to supplement the fragile Lynch. Apart from that, we're not screaming out for a player are we?

Ok another example- roger Johnson. Premier league experience and in a league of his own on Saturday for charlton.
I just threw a couple of names out. Distin is nearing the end of his time at Everton & not getting a new contract apparently. Sure that's probs a bit optimistic wages wise but what I'm saying is we need to commit a sizeable amount of our budget to signing a centre half with real pedigree.
Signing an ageing CB from another championship club who's never played above this level is unlikely to cut it.
A perfect example would be ken monkou back in the day.

Bear in mind Johnson played in the Prem less recently than Hudson and has been pretty poor against us in the Champ away from last Sat. Also, if we get a player at the back end of his career, they're likely lacking mobility, which is what is killing us at the back. It's not easy is it
