We're not consistent enough
The sign a manager doesn't have a clue what's going wrong when he says that
What does that actually mean apart from saying we win a few and lose a fair few more - it means sweet FA
Maybe if he started playing a consistent system that we worked to day in day out then he may see more "consistency"

we arent consistent enough because he doesnt have a clue how to make us consistent, he goes from 1 extreme to the other. We get dicked away from home, so the next home game he will park the bus and try to nick a draw and a clean sheet to say we have improved like against Wigan and Cardiff at home. He cant see that Edgar is garbage and that we have a defender in Gerrard who is a far better option than Wallace.

To say he is a former england defender you'd think he'd teach them how to defend .

The only thing that makes us 'inconsistent' Is the very occasional decent showing like Reading last week...if it wasn't for those 'blips' we would be VERY consistent....

Genuine question: what do you think Powell's style would have been had he constructed his own squad in the summer?

Any mention by Powell as to why the team travelled all the way back to Huddersfield after the Charlton match ,then travelled back to London today for the Brentford match. Surely it would have been far better idea to give the players a break , and get them ready to go again with light training in London .

Maybe its because London is only 200 miles away, which is basically frig all.

It's not just Powell though fellas.....the ruddy players have to take some blame as well. We have now shipped 3 or more goals against Bournemouth, wolves, brentford, Norwich, Watford, Leeds, brum, derby and Fulham - that's nearly half the league and with 3 separate managers in charge!!!!! Unless we eradicate the god awful defending we can forget any improvements because no side can score 3 every game to win regularly at this level.

Having shipped 7 goals in two games I can see the sense in trying to tighten things up, but not at the expense of our attack (which, generally, as been okay this season as the goals for suggest). We need to get back on track against Rotherham, play with some desire and prove a point. I hope we play with some attacking drive, but I suspect we will play a tight game and try and nick the points. A very dangerous game to play IMO, but lets see what Saturday brings.

I just hope Powell doesn't go all defensive against Rotherham as a reaction to these two poor results. Sure, we need to tighten up, but not at the expense of our attack - which played pretty well in the second half vs Reading in the last home game.

Time to work out which players are the right types. We carry a small squad so players know they will get picked most games - Clayton said as much - and it means some are on "easy street" and unmotivated going into games IMO
A small squad will always be the case due to budget so CP needs to weed out the weak characters who can't properly self motivate themselves for every game
While we carry weak players with "do the minimum" attitude we will continue to be inconsistent
I think CP has got rid of a few of these "in and out" types and he will spot a few more in the next few games

If your not good enough like Wallace for example, how can Powell improve him , answer....... He probably can't do. We have shipped 60 goals, wow.

Go more defensive?!
Christ almighty - 4 defenders, 2 defensive midfielders in today's line up
6 defensive minded plyers, 4 attacking - Bunn, Scannell, Buterfeld, Vaughan. How much more defensive can he get?
I've got better idea, why don't we defend from the front, press the ball and look to play higher up the pitch rather than sit deep, invite pressure. Why don't we look to be positive, look to win a game
Oggy mentioned a number of unlucky bounces etc - those unlucky bounces tend to lead to nothing 10 yards outside te box, but we sit so deep they matter.

I would also like to see us play more on the front foot, particularly at home, but I suspect that after conceding 7 goals in two games he'll look to keep things tight and hopefully nick a goal at the other end. Hope I'm wrong, but its happened before.

When Powell first got the job and had a heavy defeat, didn't he say something along the lines of 'that won't happen again on my watch' well, it's happened time and again since. The bloke sounded very flat after the match (understandably so) I think he's very quickly run out of ideas. Town have some good players who ARE Championship players, whatever people say, but, the same things happen with every recent gaffer.

You have to wonder after last nights display are the likes of Carroll, Edgar and Wallace championship players? Chris Powell obviously seems to think so

It's obvious Powell has his hands tied. Do you honestly think when he handed his list of loan targets to the board that Edgar and Miller were at the top? Not a chance, the purse has been tightened and I don't think for a minute that will change in the summer

The crazy part of all this is town could be a possible top six team if they could get the defensive problems sorted out. You would have thought that town would have some kind of a decent defensive record under a experienced defensive minded manager Powell needs to use the rest of this season and close season to try and put a team together capable of making a challenge next season.

One thing is certain. Rotherham won`t come on saturday trying to play fancy football. They will knuckle down and will fight for points.
What will we do?
