Jury's out on Butterfield....I'm gobsmacked Then when you watch a game you are only watching what he does on the ball. It's what they don't do when they don't have it that's the problem. ! Jury is out on Butterfield? Fuck my life.

Jury's out on Butterfield....I'm gobsmacked Jury's out on Duncan Foster based on this thread Not a considered response. Yes , Butterfield "on the ball" is a player. Watch what he does when he doesn't have it. In modern football great great players "press". Butterfield gives up. Simple for him. Work and use your obvious talent, or stay as you are and not quite make it to the top.

Butterfield and Bunn chased and harried against Reading..made the difference on the night..
chased and harried in the right place being the difference..
robinson marked their out ball, properly marked him..
3 players playing where the ball was and pressuring the ball made a noticeable difference. the 'defence' was asked to do less and had to do less nearer to our goal and the attacks we had(3rd goal nowithstanding) mostly started much, much further up the pitch..
it can be done, we have seen it done..
we just have too many 'passengers' too often..happy to drop back and sit, happy or instructed not to chase and go to the ball??
still cant for the life of me work out why we change our approach with the frigging wind?

Butterfield and others are required more often to be either on the ball or much, much nearer to where the ball is..
that's wether we have it or not..

Would like to see Gobbern, Hudson, Gerrard, Miller, Smith, Edgar on their way with potentially others following. Wish list would be two new centre halves, two new full backs (Go for Robinson if he is available), a new midfielder of the Pritchard ilk if (Possible loan) and a new forward. Well I can dream !

How the jury can be out on Butterfield is unfathomable. Coady's work without the ball is far too overstated. Butterfield does no less than him without the ball whatsoever. He does more with the ball than Coady which justifies his place in the team all day long for me. If I had to imagine our season without one of either Butterfield or Coady, I'd be a lot more worried where we'd be without Butterfield. In fact, of our staple midfield 3 of Butterfield, Coady and Hogg, Coady is probably the first of them that I'd be looking to improve upon. That's not to say I don't think Coady could improve upon himself. I sure hope he will do as he's far from the linchpin of the side that some people seem to think he is.

I have been disappointed with Coady after the initial rave reviews. Butterfield lives up to his reputation, and more.

I agree with the op on Wallace and Hudson. their not good enough and are way to slow.
Wallace will never make it at this level, harsh but true. You can't polish a turd as they say. Should have been released long ago.
Butters though?? He's probably our best player.

Lynch is back in training and if he's fit, I'd have alongside Wright on Saturday.

Not sure why we haven't brought in a loanee. Plenty of good ones available. Moore (Brentford) and Maguire (Wigan) being two examples.
