Although surely the article should say until the end of the 14/15 season? 1 less wage on the books, it's been clear for some time he doesn't have a future here. Very much doubt Oldham paying much of his salary.

Don't know who's playing at centre back for Oldham these days but the 2 that played against us in the pre season friendly looked way better than our defenders that day.

Good luck to him. He's a damn sight better defender than Hudson & Wallace and arguably Lynch as well. LOL, he's probably on a par with Wallace, he's nowhere near as good as Hudson or Lynch. Still I reckon a good signing for Oldham, should do well at that level especially with a point to prove. I doubt they'll be paying much of his wages though. I wonder if he will be contractually allowed to give the Town a good slating on twitter now or whether we'll have to wait til the end of the season.

We've already conceded as many goals as we did last season when Gerrard was the mainstay of the defence along with the much maligned Peter Clarke, and we've still 8 games left.

Very much doubt Oldham paying much of his salary. Why? Same reason we still pay at least half of Jon Stead`s at Bradford.

Same reason we still pay at least half of Jon Stead`s at Bradford. So that'll be maybe 50% they'll be paying then. Hardly not very much.

I have no idea if he was the bell end many state on here. Other than at times his unprofessional conditioning I think he's been a decent servant for the club - not brilliant, but a decent defender at this level and good luck to him. Hope he keeps his mouth shut and moves on...........I suspect come June or July he might not!

Anyone heard from Slapps? Do we know if he's ok? Its not been easy but Im hoping in time to pick up the pieces of my life! Good luck to the bloke. Been a good signing for us and as you all know, IMO he should have been the first defender on the team sheet all season long. Think its a real shame that its panned out like it has. Shame for Gerrard and shame for this team because it would have been much better with him in it. Should be a busy summer in terms of incomings.

Described as the biggest d*ck in football by one fellow professional. Whether or not his team mates felt the same way I do not know.

who described him that way??? is there a quote somewhere??
did he say it to his face??
we still have a reasonable size squad, plenty of room for a few more dick heads..its footie and most are young lads, it goes with the egos and the territory..

Was brought in as our top championship quality centre back on big money and has been a big let down. Some solid performances last year granted but nothing to write home about and when you consider the other baggage and the money be is on he is firmly in the poor signing column. I can only assume town bought him on the strength of his hull performances and did zero due diligence on the attitude side. Been a total waste of a big wage this year so based on that alone it's ridiculous to suggest he's been a 'good signing'! I'm not even sure his own mother would agree with that :-D Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

The only player who came close to Clayton as our POTS last season. I can think of plenty of players whove been big let downs and loads of them cost a sight more than AG, but he certainly isn't one of them. I thought he actually did much better than I thought he would. He was brought in as an experienced championship level centre back and thats what we got. Good, solid and very consistent. The best actual DEFENDER at the club. 'Awfull signing' ?? Absolute nonsense! Of course hes been a waste of a wage this season- he hasn't played. Thats been the clubs choice, not his, and Im not about to defend him in how hes seems to have let himself go fitness wise. We've played inferior players instead despite having one of the leakiest defences in the division. Is he a dickhead? I don't know him so can't say but I also don't care. Id rather have a nasty irritating bastard keeping the ball out of our net , than a really likeable bloke letting them in!!!

I can't remember hearing any definitive evidence that he was a disruptive influence in the dressing room. He's been playing at a decent level for years and wasn't he POS or at least well thought of during his time at Hull? Reading between the lines I think he must have upset someone at the top end of the Club, maybe Dean. I can't see any other reason why we should cut off our nose to spite our face when our defence has been our weak link all season. Someone at the Club needed to grow some balls and speak to Gerrard man to man. Maybe he was a bit gobby but so what, we all have our own idiosyncrasies. I was often considered a maverick myself so I tend to be supportive of such people I suppose. Anyway we seem to have burned our boats now so it's all academic. Shame.

Gerrard's Point to prove. No surprise really that sounds so similar to Holt's interview when joining us. One thing's to be sure though and that is when contractually free from us he will not hold his tongue on twitter. link

Then again, I suppose he's bound to say that. I do find it strange that there haven't been any concrete examples of his alleged bad influence. I can't remember the last time a transfer wasn't known about on here or other sites before it happened, or the Paterson/Clayton punch up, so seems weird that there hasn't been any proper rumours of why he's been frozen out.

Coincidence?

There's been summat though, Walter. Why would the club cut off its nose to spite its face? You don't need to look too hard, even in the Oldham interview to know he's a feisty, spiky character.

Think this is it - you can just tell from interviews, Twitter, on-field antics (remember him doing the 'cupped ears' celebration to the Town fans when he scored against Birmingham a couple of years back?) that he's a bit of a character. Not always a bad thing, but clearly he's had bad relations with two former employers - a trend forms. His winding up and attitude on Twitter makes him seem a right plank to me..
