The Ross Wilson debate is still raging...!
I think it's clear he improved our scouting system, our analysis, and our links to other clubs. Signing the likes of Billing and Kane is obviously a positive (let's hope they have more success than previous academy graduates).
As Dean Hoyle said, when he arrived we were a shambles in this department, so could AN Other have done the same job?
He's obviously got a good reputation though so he must be doing something right.
The other aspects to his job though I'm less convinced by.
The Director of Football is supposed to offer continuity of styles, approach, signing of players.
Which he has clearly not done.
You'd also have thought our scouting may have improved on first team players during his time?
Yet we still signed players like Carroll and Carr (along with many others).
All in all, I'm sure we'll survive (or improve, hopefully!) when he's gone.

The only " big picture " i look at is the up to date championship league table which shows towns woeful defensive record. Last season ended in a relegation dog fight , and this season could have been the same had it not been for similar poor performing teams in this division. Town have bought some crap in this season especially in Hudson , Edgar and Poyet , and the club needs to replace Wilson with someone who has the experience to spot real talent who can take this club back to where most feel it belongs.. Your 'big picture' lasts weeks. Thats not a big picture though is it.. If you went back about 4 weeks your big picture would have looked pretty good, even with a lousy goals against record. If you want to look at a 'big picture' then look at it year on year at least. This season we might not make any progress in the end- might even go backwards a little. Boo hoo. First time thats happened in about 8 seasons. It isn't unnacceptable. Its what happens. If youve been suffering for the time we've been in this division, presumably because we don't win as much, then I genuinely feel sorry for you. After all those years of League 1 dross its a real shame you can't enjoy competing at a decent level. There haven't been many times since the days of Frankie Worthington where we haven't been under-achieving, so history says you should enjoy them whilst they're here. Ive loved the last 3 seasons myself. The ups , the downs , the challenges, people remembering who the fuck we are again. I certainly don't crave going back to watching comfortable but low quality victories over Notts County Walsall and Orient like some seem to. Us more senior fans don't have time on our side, and been waiting very patiently for " 43 years " for town to get back to the level where the team once were. Would be nice to see town play in the top flight at least one more time . If you weren't there at the time, then you will not know what such an experience is like .

Im not sure what relevance that is. In my 35 or so seasons supporting the club, Ive spent the bulk of them in League 1, and i know what we have now is VASTLY better than that was, even if its tougher to get results. Can't help but think most of the people moaning about the current season would absolutely HATE it if we reached the prem because we really would struggle to get results up there.
You mention needing people to spot the talent to take us back to where we belong. Where do you think the club belongs? I'd say we're actually there already. We're about the 19th biggest club in the championship. And size of club ( income in other words) decides where a club 'belongs' IMO.

Crowds have decreased season on season since we got into the Championship. We're now at the stage where thise season's average is lower than that of our last season in League 1.
If we maintain where we are and continue finishing where we do; surviving to lower mid-table - we'll be playing to sub 10k crowds soon.
Hopefully the SS can reverse that and get people enjoying the experience as well as watching the match.
The actual number of where we finish may mask things because you can say we've made progress, finishing higher.
But have we made real progress from last year?

a football club 'belongs' where it is at that moment in time..
'struggling to get results'?? is very different from struggling to even put in a few decent performances in a row..
whichever way you look at it, or from whatever your perspective is on 'progress' , ending up just above the relegation places for 3 years , hasn't and wont improve our ability to raise the finances via the gate..
ill give you the fact that its a slow descent back to where we 'belong' financially but its a very expensive slide and a 'Blackpool' season would really kill off any progress that we believe we have made.
bottom line is, its football and its very expensive here, success costs a lot, failure probably more in the long run.

That being the case, you have to ask if we're a big enough club to be in the championship these days. Maybe we're a league 1 club with too many league 1 fans who need to see winning football most of the time?

Sugy we were only there for two seasons, and its not really like the second season was much to write home about (and I was there) so its not like trying to get back to where we " belong". For the few seasons before we got promoted to the old league 1 we were a reasonable top 6 side (bar one season) and I would be happy enough to be close to that for now. UTT

9 words you are excelling yourself Your nonsense is unworthy of more than a couple of lines... True to form you haven't read a single word anyone has said .. That may have helped your understanding but instead you just come barging in spouting nonsense... I'm amazed you didn't start a new thread about it to be honest .. You're very keen on your new threads.. Well done more than 10 words in a post and no spelling mistakes, now for tomorrow's homework try making a positive subjective contribution. Also look up the word opinion and try to understand others have one,and then reflect on the fact that nobody thinks your funny with your silly short put downs.
