Remember him at Leeds years ago, he's deffo improved. Imo he did ok last night but I'm also amazed how he's now in the England team.

Mate, you're just biased, possibly because he was born in Bradford and previously played for our rivals Leeds.
Personally, I thought he did OK and he lets the opposition know he's around and with a bit of luck he could have also had a goal.
Lets be honest, England are currently short of some top talent and Delph is worth a place in the side, particularly when the likes of Baines, Jones, Cahill, Henderson and Barkley are also considered good enough, plus he was the only Yorkshire man in the team.
Btw: The unbiased Times newspaper awarded him 7 out of 10, which doesn't indicate that they share your views either.

Who knows? - He's only 21 with a total of 67 premier league appearances to his name and has also been left out of the Everton team on a number of occasions this season. He's still along way to go to reach his peak and he gives the ball away too easily for my liking and he has also arrived on the International scene a little too early in my opinion.

Funny old game is footy. Delph now an England international and the man who had him in his pocket not so long ago Jim Goodwin, is now clogging for St. Mirren in the SPL pub league along with likes of Lionel Ainsworth (Motherwell) & Kallum Higginbottom (Partick)

Thought Delph had a decent game. Would be interesting to see how he'd cope against a proper team.
And he is exactly the reason why Town are making a big mistake releasing Oscar Gobern. Its a style and role in football that not that many can do effectively... that we have one of those kinds of players is something we should be trying to capitalise on.

If Delph played fifthteen or even ten years ago he wouldn't be near the England team
However it's a poor England vintage right now and Delph is rightly one of the better England qualified midfielders - think he adds a bit of balance and is okay

I'd fancy our current side against KK's team.

This is by far the worst team in living memory, last 3 major tournaments we have been the laughing stock, since Brazil we have played no-one dont get a semi-on about this current side theres not one world class player and they are managed by your uncle nobby

Seaman, Campbell, Keown all still going, Ashley Cole, Ferdinand, Lampard, Gerrard were starting to push through as well The only obvious weakness for me was left wing at the time. Keenan made a right mess of the job IMO

Maybe you watch them differently, but I see them both breaking the play up intercepting things with gangly legs when opposition try and play out from the back in that space between the edge of the area and the edge of the centre circle.... they both create time and space on the ball with a bit of simple body movement and letting the ball work the space, which encourages teammates to work the angles and they make mostly simple, short, safe but progressive passes.
Neither is a big strong tackler but they don't mind getting their legs in where it hurts, neither is that pay and they don't look that comfortable with the ball at their feet and aren't going to dribble past 3 players.
Obviously they're at different levels, but theres a lot similar about them, in my opinion.

Basic requirements for all midfielders? To me Delph is much more forward looking and is capable of breaking forward with the ball and picking a forward out with a clever pass. We've seen so little of Gobern in his 3? years at the club I don't suppose anyone has a true idea of what his main strengths, weaknesses and abilities are. Main conclusion from the few games I've seen him play is that he has some ability but looks knackered after 60 minutes. A victim of not having a good reserve team set up so he never actually looks "match fit".

Fair comments, and as someone who only watches an occasional televised game, I've probably only seen Delph as often as we've seen Gobern, so maybe my impression of him is different given your comment about how difficult it is to judge Gobern because of the limited exposure we've had of him.
In summary, the handful of times Ive seem Delph, he looks to be playing a similar role (and not *significantly* better either, although its at a higher level), to the role that Ive seen Gobern carrying out, on the handful of times Ive seem him (although yes, Ive seen Gobern carry out a more defensive role too).
You've likely seen more/different performances from either or both players.

He was beyond abysmal tonight. After he put a thirty yard ball in the stands the camera cut to him and he looked like he was about to cry. Can't believe Hodgson kept him on for the second half.

Pity our Academy can't produce similar quality players?

No he hasn't, but pre January window it was posted on here that Gobern, Gerrard, Hamill and Ward had been told they were surplus and should be looking to move on. That looks like it was a list originated by someone close to the money.
