The reason for the stadium being low at one end is to allow some natural light in the houses behind apparently (part of the planning). I'll look this up as my ex-boss told me as he's an Irish rugby fan and also a prize bullshitter!

It is because there is a railway line that runs behind that part of the ground.

At Liverpool some old ladies wouldnt sell holding up the development of the stand opposite tv cameras. At Newcastle there is a row of listed Georgian townhouses which they cannot demolish, hence the lobsided look of St James Park these days. However why not move the pitch over a bit and have 2 decent sized ends of the same size? When it was a terrace ut was a decent size behind both goals, presuming it is the same orientation.

I have thought the same myself. I assume that there is some other obstacles at the other side or the cost/feasibility of moving the job lot was excessive. Still a lovely looking stadium with plenty of capacity though.

I was going to go to the opening game there, but there was only packages of 10 tickets available. I'm only one person.
Better than frigging Shrewsbury, though, when I would have had to have an SY postcode to get there. Check out how big that area is....

I would still say having 2 medium equal ends would look better than one big and one small end, especially as the roof and therefore the vertical wall is almost as high at that end where it could affect the light to the houses directly behind. There is a huge expanse of polycarbonate vertical wall above the seats.

I'll look this up as my ex-boss told me as he's an Irish rugby fan and also a prize bullshitter! I think you have been had. It is because there is a railway line that runs behind that part of the ground. From Wikipedia, if that's to be trusted ... The northern end of the stadium, due to its proximity to local housing, incorporates only the lower tier of the bowl. The North Stand is to be the away stand for football internationals. There is one basement level and seven storeys of floors including ground level. The premium level holds 10,000 spectators, while the box level holds 1,300.[2] The remaining 38,700 seats are shared between the top and bottom tiers. The capacity of the stadium was criticised even before its opening for being too small, particularly in light of the large supporter attendance figures for Irish rugby internationals and soccer internationals at Croke Park since 2007.[13] The stadium's roof is designed to undulate in a -like manner so as to avoid blocking light to local residences.[14]

I've always liked it.
Dublin is a shithole though, even 65 years after they wrote 'Dirty Old Town'.
