Delph has done alright for England but he's looked massively out of his depth tonight. Abysmal passing.

Why would you start a central defender in midfield? Chuffin' numpty.
Walcott, Henderson and Jones not international class. Always makes me laugh when people think Henderson is a better option than Wilshere.

Kompany sent off for Belgium. Idiotic foul while on a yellow.

Because he's trying to play a defensive minded player at the bottom of the diamond, and Jones is a bit more adaptable than the other defenders. I wouldn't have done it, but I can see his thinking... He could have played Delph there because he never takes a man on and generally does bugger all out on the left. Don't think Delph is defensive minded enough to play that screener role. He's more suited to 'adding legs' than anything else.

Don't agree at all. Think we have a pretty decent crop of young players coming though. I think we'll have a decent chance in France and by Russia will have a strong side. We always think that. It's games like this that make your realise we haven't We have a major lack of quality defenders available. We've got plenty of decent ones but none that are going to be good enough to see you reach a tournament semi final Without a good defence you're never going to get far at this level Agree that we have some good attacking options though England 16's to 21's have been excellent over the past 2-3 years. Some really good players in those groups - the problem as has been for the last 15-20 years, is for them to get competitive game time between the key growth phase of 18-21.

Amazing what happens when you play a recognised midfielder in midfield and an attacking midfielder in front. Cough.

We have Welbeck, Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sterling, Wilshere to add to this squad. Likes of Will Hughes, Ward-Prowse, Pritchard should definitely be knocking on the door in a few years. Just need to find some central defenders.
Edit - John Stones could be the answer.

Whether you think they're good enough for England or not, they are the best we've got. Would definitely of preferred to see Mason start ahead of Delph though

Not bad that in the end... Townsend and Barkley really added some pace and brightness from deep. Carrick is a superb player though - very underrated. Knits the play together very well from defensive midfield. Some encouraging signs in and amongst there.

Kane was alright Phil. Set up Rooney in first half, had a shot himself and kept possession well. Didn't look out of place at this level.

Well played england 2nd half. Put the 1st half down to experimentation but when we had players in the right positions and carrick on to adda bit of composure we looked pretty good and well deserved at least a draw. Shame Rooney didn't have his best night cos he had the chances to win it. fair result I thought and plenty of positives to take from that.

Some encouraging signs - even Phil Jones showed up well at centre back in the 2nd half

To think we wasted Carrick by persisting with Slippy G and Fat Frank over him. What a waste. Almost as criminal as misusing Paul Scholes.

We're crap compared with other country's teams, and we will continue to be so. and what do you think at full time? Were we crap 2nd half once we had something resembling a decent side out there ( ie Smalling off and Jones not in midfield instead of carrick)

Only England of course. and Lampard England - victims of trying to shoehorn the 11 best players into a 442.. Shame Hoddle took leave of his senses in 99, because had he not I think he'd have been in it for the long haul - the most modern thinking and tactically astute manager we've had for a long time. He'd have played Carrick in the holding role and pushed Gerrard and Scholes further forward.
