I know Roy Hodgeson is England manager, but still think England played the best football when Glen was manager. When he sumerizes, I like what I hear and wish he still was.

I'd like to see him in the England set up, can't see it though. The FA can't be seen giving him a job after what happened, it's sad because he is very highly thought of in football and he's wasted in a TV studio.

He'd love to be back in the set-up and doing the really important stuff. You know, like getting Eileen to lay her hands on the players.

Clearly a very good coach and speaks very intelligently, always a pleasure listening to his insight. Would like to see him back in management.

He's been coaching a god-awful QPR side this season, and hasn't had a management job for 9 years.

England job was right job wrong time for him as his inexperience of dealing with the media and the big pressure got to him with coming out with the comment he did at the time. Now think if England were in the position to offer Hoddle again then would be a different scenario this time and has a wealth of knowledge also.
Even if he doesnt become manager agree with above then he needs to be some sort of involvement with getting young english players through the systems playing into the top teams and making them a force again .
Venables era wa sthe best i have ever known since i been alive, i firmly believe that championship should have been hours and if we would have stuck with him for world cup we wouldhave stood a great chance too but there is one big problem with all the above with why England will never be world champions anytime soon ....

Roy's doing alright of late since he saw the light re Glen Johnson. I think Hodgson got lucky last night, he made a complete horlicks of a team selection as the first half showed. I don't think for a minute if Smalling had not been injured he would have made that switch, far from it. Agree 100% about Johnson though, awful defender.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder I think. What I'd say in his favour is that he is dogmatic enough to bend over backwards to get his systems to work and wouldn't blow with the wind. Then again didn't we get well outplayed by a very decent Romania in France 1998.

He was experimenting, like you're meant to do in friendlies.... Having said that Phil Jones should have been at centre half, never in a million years is he a centre mid let alone an international class centre mid.

I was not on Hoddles plane ( i flew in from Belgium) but the guy i am with right now was sat next to him on the Heathrow/Turin flight...along with Wrighty and Platt. Seems he did not like the side-wind. I did once go to Dartford FC though just to see Hoddle play. One of my favourite players from my youth. Been in his company a couple of times over the years...hides his latent madness well!

Glenn (note the double "n") Hoddle was an amazing player. Anyone remember Kevin Allen's superb Italia 90 World Cup diary? My favourite part was when he met Bobby Robson and exchanged small talk, then admitted he'd bottled the question that had always bothered him: "so, Bobby, why did you ruin Genn Hoddle's international career?" What a programme. Used to have it in VHS. Sure it'll be in YouTube and well worth watching.

Talks a good game. Management record is nothing to shout about really. Still, he is a lot better than some of the managers in the England setup. Aidy chuffin Boothroyd is the England under 20's manager! He wasn't good enough for Northampton for heavens sake. FA need shooting.

People easily forget that he was a spiritualist nutter. He brought in a faith healer type woman and every member of the squad was required to be subjected to her hands-on-head nonsense. It is said that Ray Parlour, who was arguably the best midfielder of his day, when confronted with all this, looked up at her and said " short back and sides, please". Hoddle effectively sacked him. .

Boothroyd being a long ball merchant* is surely out of keeping with what England are trying for in the medium to long term. *This is a generalisation, but he's very much from the Reepian school.

Don't forget John Beck is also involved in the FA set-up. His management style left a lot to be desired too.
