He's garbage the fact he starts ahead of billing or Tronstad is laughable. Certainly is, the air shots v Fulham for example. I don't think those away stats when he played are anything at all to do with him.

For me, the most frustrating thing about Edgar coming in is that he's been brought in on loan to play in positions that we already have people like Oscar Gobern who are very capable of playing themselves.
He's not been outstanding or noticeably better than what we had (arguably, noticeably much worse) so it just seems a bit pointless him being here, picking up a wage and getting a game at the expense of our own players who could be getting experience.

Agree. Gobern was great in that home game - his first for ages. I thought he'd finally get a run but he was sub the week after then in & out of match day squad since. He's no world beater but a far better player in every department than Edgar imo. Does seem to be one or those signings where the manager sees something most others don't.

Agree entirely joe.........I kind of understood his signing as a flexible addition to the squad defensively, but how he plays ahead of goburn in midfield I just don't know, particularly after goburns performance v Cardiff.

There's as much point in playing Gobern now as there is Edgar.
Surely we've other options rather than these two?
Little point in having an academy and youth set up if we never intend on using them in the first team.
Putting one or two young lads in tomorrow would hardly weaken the team, given we've not won a game for weeks.

If Gobern had been given the chance in January it would have given him the opportunity to play his way into a new contract. As it is, Powell will more than likely release him without having seen him play much and he'll probably go on to be the new Scott Arfield.

I was at the Cardiff game and Gobern was an unused sub that day, his warmups on the touchline must have really impressed you I am guessing you mean the Watford game... but as ever Gobern divides opinion on here, that game was streamed live and here's the match day thread as a refresher of the opinions during the game. downatthemac.proboards.com/thread/95051/watford-match-thread-predictions

I'd probably say that he's a slight improvement on Lee Peltier for that versatile type of defender that can also do a bit in midfield if required to like he has been doing. I wouldn't say he's a bad option to have in the squad.

Peltier started 8 league games for Town our record was W1 D3 L4 Edgar has started 8 league games for Town our record is W3 D2 L3

If he isn't good enough for Birmingham, then he probably shouldn't be good enough for us. Hes had one or two decent games I suppose but not sure hes the sort of standard we should be looking for. Id hope for better, or at least a different player that might be better. Edgar to me is a bang average League 1 standard player at best who wouldn't look out of place in L2 and no better than previous squad fillers such as Peltier, Woods, Tom Clarke. He can do 'a job' but at the same time hes one of those players who lacks so much actual skill, touch and ability that you wonder how he ever made the grade as a pro in the first place. 'kicking the ball properly ' is often beyond his capabilities.
The manager might see things in him that i don't and sign him up , but id hope he'd not take up much wage budget if he did. theres got to be better options out there that we could get surely.

What's happened in the last 12 days that this has been brought up again? Haven't we all slammed him enough without going over it all again....

My guess is Teddytheterrier was just quietly going about his business when out of nowhere he suddenly thought 'God that Edgar really is shit' I know it happens to me

Decent player but I'm sure its more coincidence than much else Gobern has started 4 this season we've won 3 and drawn one (scoring 6 but only conceding 2) Get him to sign a 5 year contract now Deano I only put stats up like that as an opposing view to Edgar being the worst player ever to don the blue and white stripes when IMO it is clear he has done the job he was brought in to do which was to replace Peltier as a versitile option from the bench or as cover when we have injuries. On a side note, I have been encouraged by the 2 games I've seen Oscar start this season. But given his longevity at Town without making much impact I doubt he will be retained at the season's end. It is probably best for him to seek first team football elsewhere at this stage of his career and I think Billing could fulfil his backup role next season hopefully pushing on to stake a first XI spot.

With cuts to the budget, i would guess that if our management team will not pay for an experienced player if there is any chance of bringing one of the young players. I would also assume that if they did not look up to filling the position they would go out on loan to l1 or l2 and loan a player that can fill the role.

Good for him.
Met him in the VIP lounge at a Toronto FC game over the summer - went over to say hello.
Didn't chat for long but seemed genuinely pleased to meet a Town fan in Toronto.
Hope he does well. Surprised he hasn't come over here to play in the MLS.
