West Yorkshire Sport ?@wysdaily 6m6 minutes ago Key notes from Dean Hoyle #htafc fan Q&A session: Ross Wilson will be replaced. Confident of success next season if get recruitment right. Felt this squad should have finished higher this season, wanted 10th place. Says won't sell any players they don't want to this summer & wants to keep squad together. Not sure what fans want - winning in league 1 or battling to establish in championship. 10th? Well, maybe if he'd let Powell invest in January, and not just sell, sell, sell. Nonsense and a very short sighted naive view. We've shown in the last 3 games 10th is a reasonable aim with these players - when set up right and with players available 10th is a realistic ambition. As for sell, sell, sell - it's part of a long term view and was a strategic decision - with those players out when can have a proper stab at the market in the summer. I'll happily take a few months of average to have a good summer - lets see if it happens.

There is NOTHING to stop ANYBODY going along and asking Dean some tough questions. I thought I'd get down a day early as my Campervan takes up two spaces, but I was told in no uncertain terms to feck off, take my mangy dog with me, and that my type weren't welcome.

Its this misjudgement that concerns me a bit about recruitment and expectation (from inside the club) going forwards. 3) Good message. 4) Whilst in the Championship, we want to see the club battling to establish itself and hopefully continuing to progress, and if we were relegated to League 1, we'd want to see our team winning games and getting back into the Championship at the earliest opportunity. Obviously.

Well most will.

I just felt 10th was a bit high. Especially after letting go of that many in January. I'm not unhappy with there we are now, in the table, btw. Hey, 2-1!

Ross Wilson will also be replaced, I'm guessing that's an answer to someone asking what happens to that position.

It's very naive thinking to have a squad of players and suggest they might on paper be 10th, 11th,16th etc. it's played on grass and the management of the team is just as important as the players in it.

But surely the Chairman and Manager talk at regular intervals and assess the relative quality of the squad and where it is possible to finish, striving for a higher place than we currently sit has got to be commended surely.

He might well have said it, but saying it doesn't make it happen, and doesn't make it more likely to happen.
Where we finish is mostly a product of what we have to work with across the season... and that's a team that's probably fairly somewhere between 12th and 21st.
Obviously the 'correct' or 'best' decisions most likely to give us 3 points in any given game haven't always been made (on and off the pitch), that's just football, but even with a "doing the best we could with what we had" at every key decision , I'd be amazed if anyone could have managed/coached us to the top 10.

Ps. Not withstanding the fact we could potentially actually still finish 10th!

It's motherhood and apple pie. Aren't we always striving to finisher higher than we did yesterday, last week, last year? Surely all football teams in Europe want to be Champions of Europe. Of course that's not realistic at the moment. If Dean wants to plot a graph of wage outlay v league position then I've no problem with that - but it doesn't really mean much.

Cracking game against a side that have been challenging for promotion to the premier league for 2 full seasons thank you Deano.

More like offload, offload, offload. None of those who have gone would have made the slightest impact on the second half of the season and for once I would rather some quality rather than quantity in our recruitment.

Maybe not (the sell, sell, sell wasn't terribly serious btw). But cover is good to have if you want to challenge in top half.

I was one at the time questioning the mass exodus in Jan... I am happy to now feel like a clown as it has clearly produced a more tight knit group focused on quality over quantity, and like someone else has said none of the players let go would have impacted the first team at all.
Hopefully this means we can invest in 3-4 quality championship players and push forward again next year... This squad is clearly capable of matching anyone on their day and we should be looking at top half next season judging on the way we've played the back end of this season.

The Championship is always a big step up from L1, especially if you try and play by the rules. Where we are today is pretty decent progress, hopefully next yr we can stabilise in the top half...
We are no worse off than the likes of Leeds, Charlton, Blackburn etc...

The main thing that holds us back in my opinion is Powell's 'conservative' approach, it was in evidence today. I know that sounds crazy given we've scored 4 goals but at times the midfield do not support the attack enough. There was numerous times today where Miller and Wells were isolated in the box on there own. Tweak the style of play fir next season and we could hit the top ten consistently.
