Lots of divided opinion on here...
'Twenty five games a season is probably all we're going to get out of him'
'Anyone daft enough to take a punt on "sick note" Vaughan wants their heads testing'
'we need to look after ourselves as a club where his wage long term and place also could be spent and earnt and brought in on someone else.'
'He has another year left with us and if he can play 30 games next season and get into double figures with his goals, then I'd definitely give him another contract'
'Vaughan is easily worth a contract IMO. He is a Premiership class forward'
'Who has made a bigger contribution to keeping us in the Championship?'

I've voted for 'only on reduced terms' but that could be either purely pay as you play (unlikely he'd accept that, although he couldn't argue too much with the reasoning behind it if we offered him that) or a smaller basic wage with a slightly higher appearance fee. Don't get me wrong, his goals are useful, but we have to balance that with knowing he may only play 20 games a season (or we might get lucky, he could play 35 games + a couple of cup games and score 15-20 goals)

No action needed as he has 12 months remaining on his contract yet, so IMO no need for a poll until after next January.
We don't need to do anything, however, if an unlikely bid came in for him that would need serious consideration.
a) We'd be daft to extend his contract now, see how he and his fitness is next season.
b) Only an idiot would accept reduced terms while a contract is still in place.
c) If we got rid we'd still have to pay the remainder of his contract for him to DEFINITELY not play for us, and why would we want to do that?

If we get a good 25 games a season out of him with him playing to the best of his ability then I'd say he's earned his wage. A class player that I wouldn't want to see go.

Try offer him a contract on wages a bit lower because I'm pretty sure he's our top earner. If he turns down a lower wage then just let his contract run out or try sell him to still get a bit of money for him.
His wages could be going on 2 decent players who could actually play most of the season

I think it's a bit different when you're earning thousands a week for spending half a season playing football

No it isn't!
Why piss off an important player in your squad. The club offered the contract in good faith and should (and WILL) fulfil its end of the terms.

As long as Middlesbrough go up JV will be fine next season, the poor lad's got injured the last 3 times we've played them!
I'd give him another contract, no doubt about it! Who would we replace him with? We don't have the money needed. He's averaged 11 goals a season & effectively played half a season in each.. That's not bad in a team that's struggled at the wrong end if the table each year, and it's not as if it's the same injury that keeps flaring up each time either, you take that competitive side out of his game & he's a completely different player.

How can we say extend us contract but only on reduced terms? How does anyone know how much coin he's on now? Surely that's purely speculation?

Meh - scored a decent amount of goals, but what are his costs and what else could we get that gives any better "bangs for bucks"?

What I gather from this straw poll is that despite the efforts of the vociferous anti-Vaughan brigade (re earlier thread), the silent majority seem to appreciate his talents by quite a considerable margin!

'sick note.' The guy played football a week after breaking a cheekbone and an eye socket. Most on here would have been off work for weeks.

Can we afford to have our highest earner on the sidelines for 40-50% of the season? No.
