www.htafc.com/news/article/huddersfield-town-match-day-ticket-prices-2461230.aspxMust say I'm quite surprised by this, might be general ignorance, as someone who has season ticket I rarely look at the gate price. But how can this really be justified? I'm not necessarily blaming the club as I'd like to think they wouldn't charge considerably higher than they need too. I'm lucky enough to be a 24 year old man with little commitments, so with the monthly payment system can afford my season ticket in the lower direct golf with my father. It was often the case, during my teens that my friends would join me if they were free. However now as an adult if my friend was to show interest in coming to watch townvs Leeds and I were to tell him that would be £32, he tell me to stuff it. It's a sad state of affairs that a bottom half championship club can/needs and does charge this. Roughly its a 10% increase in what I already thought was an over priced day out. For example two adults and two teenagers in the cheapest stand is still £75 for the more attractive games. I will continue to support the club, whole heartedly, but the days of football being the working mans sport are long gone. I realise we need to increase revenue, just a shame its the fans the bare the brunt of it.

We'll wait and see how often these prices are enforced. From midway through last season we seemed to adopt a strategy where fans buying in advance could get in relatively cheap (£20 Rotherham and Leeds, £5 Blackburn), but matchday prices were left high to exploit away fans.
Got to be honest, it leaves me feeling somewhat uneasy for us to blatantly exploit away fans like this. However, unfortunately until a concerted effort is made towards ticket prices from the top, we're just shooting ourselves in the foot if we don't exploit away fans. Would still rather we didn't mind.

very few clubs can justify the wages they pay..so they cant then justify the admission prices.. so in reality, nobody even tries to justify the costs in the game, they point to tv money and market forces and blame them plus the agents.. the fact that tv money does not affect anything below the premier league very much is somewhat immaterial..the fact that 'market forces and agents fees' certainly do is somewhat ignored and shouted down by people talking about the game being 'awash' with money.. a game where billionaires play it like chess and have a few teams with 50 man squads ? European Super League where the European Cup is changed to a World Super Cup? tv might do ok, Town wont...

Just to be clear, the prices quoted are the PRE match day prices, all of which increase by £3 on match day. So, if you decide on a Sat morning to attend a Cat A match in the South Stand, it will cost you £34. What I dont understand is why the prices seem to fluctuate....Kilner and Riverside Lower same price for Cat A, but 50p more expensive in Riverside for a Cat B and a £1 more for Cat C?! Then, look at Kilner compared to South Stand, same price for Cat B and C, but a £1 more in Kilner for Cat A. This is going to be interesting when an away team gets a bit of the Kilner, most likely for a Cat A game...and we have to start selling tickets to away fans at multiple price points.

They're not doing anything here to attract fans who either can't afford to buy a season card or like me can't get to enough games to justify the cost. The £3 increase if you pay at the turnstiles is daylight robbery!

for an hour and a half entertainment you can go to the cinema for less than a tenner. Football is too expensive.

The prices are frustrating, im a football fan who wants to see fans unite and boycott football over pricing. I think Town have got the match day prices wrong and I'm not a big fan of the catagory system either. The vast majority of football clubs are over charging home and away fans. I don't see a change happening UNLESS boycotts happen especially when it's a TV game. There must be a link (I don't have any evidence) with players wages and ticket prices, when fans say no then clubs will have to have a think about their pricing strategies. It's not just Town who are guilty of over charging, but it does annoy me that my own club is over charging. It's an English football issue, not a Huddersfield Town issue IMO.

For the dross that was served up last year its daylight robbery....... Wont be paying full on the day prices, despite been able to comfortably afford it, and if someone who can afford it feels like that, then those who struggle by are hardly going to turn up.
Shame, but ill go when I think prices are reasonable, thats with the kids tickets, or promotion games. They now seem totally counter-productive as no matter how well they play, I wouldnt be tempted to watch at full price. They are pricing many reasonably loyal fans out of supporting the club. Shame on HTAFC, The fans own the club, the board are just custodians.

Pre match is too high, but POTD is extortionate especially with such a high increase. I'll certainly be going to less games than last season as I can't afford those prices (even on a semi regular basis), even before you take the POTD increase into account. Looks like it'll just be the promo matches for me, so probably 3 or 4 games max.
Can definitely see attendances dropping as hardly anyone will turn up at those prices if they're not a SC holder. Even v Leeds I'd expect a lower attendance than normal. Only chance they have of a decent number of non SC holders turning up for games is if we're up near the top as I doubt many will turn up on a cold Tuesday December night to watch us play an uninteresting midtable team for example at those prices.

I'm all for balancing the books, I admire town for it's approach on FFP but they've dropped a real clanger here. Stevvy, your 27/28? The average age of a ST holder in this country is around 42 (According to TalkSport),it was 24 forty years ago and with prices being as they are in football, your situation will become more and more common, sadly.

Yeah I'm 28. Without a little one I'd be a season card holder still but can't do it now, and nearly 30 quid a game is too high for me to justify even on a semi regular basis. It's not even going to be a case of picking and choosing, it's literally going to just be a case of 'it's a promo game so if I can go then I will, otherwise forget it'.

And it's a sad situation that footballs in where it's too expensive for a football fan to go and watch their local football team once a week. By pricing out the biggest audience (young working people) I fully expect towns attendances to be poor next season. We averaged 13600 this season apparently, anybody confirm that?

You've got to laugh, £35 potentially to watch town next year , I can't attend enough games to be a season ticket holder due to business so would have been going to games I was able to attend, but I've got to say principle rather than club loyalty kicks in, and unless we are bloody good I won't be paying £35.. As a business I can see why htfc have chosen this approach , so they can maximise profits on pay on the day clients by raking money in from away fans. Well this is short term thinking, many adults will become seperated from the club by not being willing to pay these prices and bang goes introducing the generations of future supporters ie. Their kids. I'm telling you this now , gain promotion quickly at these prices or the club is on a slippery slope, because at £35 a game the Huddersfield public will potentially be lost forever and their kids will watch football on TV / at other clubs or not at all.

trouble is ,Clibbens really believes he has got all the pricing stuff bang on....meanwhile more and more of the casual fans are staying away...As for the new 'buy your ticket before matchday' policy, I find this a bind and it tends to make me not bother. If you forget then realise you have to pay another £3 you generally think, nah...not today.
Town are the classic tradionalists, conservative and lacking in radical thinking and any ooomph...I can't commit to a SC but would buy a partial SC if they offered the same terms as a full SC...but they don't...so I won't.

Its a catch 22 situation for Town because, if we had a regular 17/18,000 home fans the prices would be lower and that is the problem. Our crowds are a bit disappointing but we cant match the the big city clubs like Leeds and Sheffield and we all know that a lot of football fans in Huddersfield watch the likes of Manure. They have to balance the book's, so they increase the prices and its an increase that a lot of fans cant afford or just wont pay on principle. When someone who is not a football fan asks how much it cost's to watch football these days, they are amazed.

The problem is, all the evidence (with the talk of Town gate being largely price inelastic etx) seems to be that the club will likely look at the natural outcome from high matchday pricing, identify that most Town fans are buying season tickets, so lets put match day pricing up even more as it mainly affects away fans anyway (amongst whom, pricing IS inelastic, so it wont affect travellimg support). I'm sure as fans we all recognise the difference, when the word goes out, "fancy a boozy trip to Nortingham" or wherever, the answer typically comes based solely on the date and location, its very rare that I've known the price of an away ticket until AFTER I've committed to buying. The opposite is true at home. Its the same reason why you'll happily on a night out pay £30 for a meal plus another £20 for a bottle of wine that you can buy for £7....but if the local chippy puts his prices up by 10p because of the Irish potato shortage, you'll consider torching the place.

I suggested to him that the team needed to perform on the pitch to attract floating supporters to which he responded that his research suggested winning and success was not the most important thing but rather the matchday experience/atmosphere. Well to those of us who have been going for years then the results aren't the be all and end all, but if you want to attract more fans they you have to give them some incentive and high prices coupled with mediocre performances/results won't do it. If we start next season on a high and maintain it then gates might hold up/improve, but if not then the club need to be prepared for a steady decline in numbers attending.

Judging from the past and some of the comments on here the only games some will go to are the discounted games and therefore that negates the objective. More sensible pricing for all games is what's needed imo.

Have they ever tried reducing the price by a decent amount? surely that would attract higher gates=more money with more people going to watch because its an attractive price?

If it carries on like that next season I'll attend even less
