I believe it was because we refused to put a sell on clause in the deal where as fleetwood did so Halifax sold him to them.

Another one that got away....... Imagine all the ones we don't know about. We could probably have had the full England squad at some stage.

He's scored 4 goals this season, how on earth does that quantify an England call up?

He's scored 4 goals this season, how on earth does that quantify an England call up? Because all the other English strikers are injured, retired, with U21s or on holiday.

curle in at centre half, with anyone who qualifies to play for us from stoke, palace or any mid table club..
pretend its to have a look at them at this level...rather than all the regular starters telling us they wont be turning up..

Just a harmless leg pull here, but sometimes bookmarking a thread has it's plus points coardy - I do agree with you to some extent there. I played against Cameron Jerome at junior levels for 4 or 5 consecutive seasons. He played for West End and Stile Common whilst I was at Liversedge Sporting Juniors. The lad was quick but aside of that, pretty woeful. Thing is though, he always said he'd make it, as did his dad, and he eventually got snapped up at a young age. Young enough to receive the amount of techinal work he needed. He was a decent player by the time he was 15/16 and with the pace he had, was worth a gamble by someone. Cardiff eventually took a chance and it paid off. Vardy isn't 15/16 though and doesn't have enough about him to put the work in to improve himself. As I said earlier, it's all about opinions but I've seen more than enough of him to cast proper judgement. Most, if not all, others are commenting on hear-say Can you not read? I'm not vidicated at all. I have played against this lad several times and also seen him player several times on top of that. Based on both experiences, I am confident enough to say that he will not cut it as a professional footballer. I said the same about Denton - who i'd also played against - and I was right. Although very different players, his and Vardy's ability levels are about the same. They both score a lot of goals at low semi-pro levels, but just aren't good enough to make the step up. On the other hand, there are two players who I cannot believe have never been snapped up as they are simply piss-takers at their current clubs. Paul Walker, currently at Garforth Town, is a class act but once turned down the offer of a contract with us when Peter Jackson was in charge. To this day I don't know why. The other is Richard Marshall at Harrogate Town. Both of these are in a different class to Vardy, but have never got that bit of luck. Vardy has but he doesn't have the ability to do anything with it. So Ashton, in short, I've played enough semi-pro and top amateur football to be able to cast judgement on various players at these levels. Jamie Vardy is not good enough. Yeah Yeah we get the message. You're great. Pfft Remind us again what your full-time job is? What has my full-time job got to do with anything? Anyway since you asked, I'm a golf journaist/reporter earning well above the national average. How about yourself? If TerrierLuke says he's crap then Vardy will probably go on to play for England.

Vardy is an excellent player. Lightning pace and works so hard. Shame this has got the reaction it has because it's a great story given where he has come from. As England fans we should be pleased for him and give him the support he needs rather than ridicule him before he's even had a chance to get out on the pitch. Would much rather Vardy than the dross wide men we have had over the years (Lennon, Wright-Phillips, Theo to an extent). Really pleased Woy has given him a chance. And why Town didn't sign him when he was right on our doorstep I will never know...

A good example to any good young english player ..dont need an abundance of skill but your heart and passion will get u through as like a lot of people dont think is nothing special but reminds a lot of Ian Rush how he harasses back line and doesnt give them a minutes peace and can finish well also ..
Gotta be good for english game

Chuffed to see a lad who's come up from non League get a chance, even if its a once only call up he can tell his kids / grand kids that he was once a full England international.

Look it's obviously a good story and well done to him he's a hard worker and gets the best out of what he has but, it's a sad state of our national team that he's in it to be honest. He's started 25 games this season and been subbed in half of them and he's scored 4 goals (he has more yellow cards). How having players like Vardy in the England squad is good for our game I don't know because as good as the story is the cold truth of it is he isn't good enough. I completely understand Austin being called up, similar situation having worked his way up but he's proved himself this season.
As for whether we should've signed him there's probably about 20 clubs saying the same thing and people were the saying the same about Lee Gregory who apart from his hat trick against Derby has done nothing to suggest we should've signed him, it's hit and miss so I won't lose any sleep over it.

Whats wrong with picking players on form though? Over the last couple of months vardy has been outstanding and bang on his game. Earlier in the season he wouldn't have got a look in, but if hes playing really well NOW, then why not?

Pretty much exactly the kind of player I'd expect to be turning out for Northern Ireland. Not a knock on the lad in any way, but I agree it's a terrible reflection on the current England options. Good luck to him though, as others have said, it's a nice story and a great achievement for him.

And with respect Slyman, how many times have you seen him play this season ? And how many times have those getting paid loads of money to run the national side seen him play ? His "stats" might not read great but maybe here's more to football than stats ?

This England squad shows the importance of our pyramid system and the youth set ups within it. You can't rely on just the big clubs to find the talent, and it should give all kids starting out at any level, no matter how low, the hope they can get right to the top. be interesting to know if these clubs hadn't spotted the talent when they were kids, how many would have slipped through the net ( like i did ) Smalling.... Maidstone Hart............Shrewsbury Vardy.........Stocksbridge, Halifax, Fleetwood Austin.........Hungerford, Poole, Swindon Delph..........Bradford Gibbs..........Wimbledon Bertrand..... Gillingham Lallana........Bournemouth Wilshire......Luton

set up sterling for England only been on for 5 mins, Makes me envy what we could have had if we had gambled on this lad every time I see him play....poorer decision then not signing Lambert imo
