No great surprise, underachieved with that squad.

This makes McLaren and Newcastle look a bit daft.

Rightly so i think with that team mid-season was spouting promotion and then once Martin got injured they were knackered ....

It wouldn't surprise me, I reckon the mother in law could have got that squad into the play offs.

This makes McLaren and Newcastle look a bit daft. My lodger's a Derby fan and the thought is this episode contributed to it. Seems similar circumstances to Clark!

He hasn't been sacked yet. Reported in the Telegraph this morning that he's gone. Derby looking at Real Madrid assistant coach to replace him.

i'm sorry but derby have a great season and sack their manager? bonkers. A bit like the media backlash when we sacked Clark after the 43 games unbeaten? I'm saying nowt - I think that with this kind of thing to you need to be a Derby supporter and hear their side of it. FWIW, I know that Derby fans were incensed by the way Derby blew up in the run-in. Won only two of their final thirteen games and those were against Wigan and Blackpool. With the squad size and the money spent there, I think they have every right to be upset. But let's wait and see ...

To miss out was a failure. but only 2 teams can go up. (well 3 including the playoffs). If every club took the (apparent) position of derby there would be no managers. No team has a divine right to gain promotion.

Should have breezed the top six with the squad they had and the strengthening the board sanctioned with the signings of Ince and Bent. That said not sure who is out there that would be better, sometimes it's a case of being carful what you wish for.

Sounds like not showing loyalty has got him the boot. The board didn't like how he apparently dealt with the Newcastle approaches.

He's had two shots at promotion with a very good squad and failed both times. Think if they were to 'let him go' then the decision would be right.

its only because he is Dutch...clearly found it hard with his 'accent' to get his message across at Derby..

Considering teams like Brentford and Ipswich got into the play-offs with much weaker squads (IMO), Derby should have been in there. The players are very high quality, so it must come down to their management. I'd certainly want a replacement if I saw such a relative failure at our club.

I agree in late Feb (with those 13 games) they were 2 pts clear at the top of the table. To miss out on the playoffs with a run of 12 pts from their final 13 games, something had gone disastriously wrong. If the Derby board have made a change it's not a surprising one IMO.

A few of the Derby players - Bryson and Keogh were two - signed new contracts at the start of the season virtually doubling their wages. I read Bryson is now on a £20k-a-week FIVE-year deal.
With their wage bill plus loans like Ince and Bent, the owners were probably expecting automatic promotion after a 3rd place finish, so they probably view this season as a failure.
I'm not sure all the players will be behind McLaren if he were to stay next season.

As a die hard England Fan (who has being going to England games home & way for the last 15 years) I remember the "Whally with the Brolly" and what a complete cock up made after taking over from Sven. I am not surprised that he could not see the job through. He is a total bottle merchant and not a manager I would ever want to see at Town.

There seems to be little or no room for error in the championship ,and the bigger the club means the bigger the expectation level. Its seems something went terribly wrong with team maters at Derby come the end of the season especially as motivation levels seemed to drop. Got a feeling that there will be fewer mug teams in the championship next season ,and just hope Powell can bring in the right players to at least keep town at this level.
