That's a knee-jerk reaction in my opinion.

Probably prompted by yesterday - Swindon were a mess. They'll be thinking, how did we lose in the semis to that lot?

Couple of uncompetitive seasons so, while I was surprised, I can understand the reasons behind it.
If it was Town in that position, can't help thinking it wouldn't look bizarre in the slightest.

Not nuts to their fans, they have been calling for him to go. They haven't improved.

Effect of cup runs took its toll? Poor decision.

Looks harsh as an outsider looking in.
Nigel Clough looks to have done a very decent job at Sheff Utd, two semi finals in FA Cup & League Cup and playoffs this season too.
Ultimately didn't manage to get them up though and that would have been his specific. They probably think it's time for a fresh approach. Fine margins. He'll get another job I hope, I like him.

The outside world didn't like us sacking Clark. Leave them to their own decisions I say.

Neil Redfearn could well get this job. Ferguson early bookies fav along with the usual suspects. Could Colin be tempted out of retirement or is he waiting for the Bradford DOF job.

Keep in mind the reaction on here to other clubs calling Clark's and Grayson's sackings ridiculous etc.

The Sheffield United team of the last two season wasn't a patch on the one we played at Wembley, Evans although granted he was in the clink by then, Quinn, Williamson, Lowton and any other of the decent players they had. When I saw the team that played Swindon I hardly recognised any of the players...so whilst it may look bizarre its no more bizarre than the McClaren sacking, although he deserved it more than Clough did.

Just shows what fine lines there is in football. The guy they'd specifically brought on to take a pen in the shoot out scores then they'd have gone 2-0 up with 2 to go. Hard to imagine any miracle big enough for us to turn it round from there. yet theyre looking forward to a 4th season more of league 1 dross, whilst we steadily establish ourselves more and more in the level above.
Seems harsh on Clough but as with clark, his target is promotion, not unbeaten ( ish) runs or in his case cup semi finals, and in that hes failed. Weird though cos any manager that got Town to a cup semi would be having stands named after him, even if he didn't take us up!

With Clark it was a bit different though. Sacking Clough isn't like when we sacked Clark. It's like if we sacked Clark after we lost to Millwall in the playoffs - if we'd got to the semi-final of the cup along the way. Clough has only had one full season.
If sacking Clough as punishment for failure, then it's very, very harsh.

It's easy to brush aside the sacking as harsh, but Sheffield United are a bigger club than one that can't get out of League One, and have the status to bring in someone else with a lower risk than if Swindon for example did it. It's also easy to say it's similar to Clark's but this seems to be solely down to results on the pitch, where they haven't done bad at all. It's puzzling in some ways yet it is not a tremendous shock.
