First year = £24m Second year = £19.2m Third year = £9.6m Fourth year = £9.6m Total = £62.4m As well as the three coming down this summer, there are still several other clubs who are in receipt of funds in their second, third and fourth years. Still believe that we can compete? Certainly not getting any easier and the Greedy League seems to be doing its damnedest to make sure that it stays that way!

Prize money for failure Crazy I did read that the year Cardiff were relegated they earned more in parachute payments than the team who won the league the previous season had received for all of their TV rights and appearances. Crackers!

I think only one of this years top six was receiving parachute payments this season, and two of them, like Town, have never had a parachute payment.
Lets not look for excuses before we're even back for preseason training, we know the competition, and you dont win it simply by having more money to spend.

How on Earth is this possible in light of the exodus of players mid season? Thats equivalent to 250k per week. theres only about 17 senior players left at the club, plus the academy lads and staff... lets say thats the equivalent of 25 senior squad players, that would mean the average wage would need to be 10k per week... 13m/year cannot be correct surely?

Should have said, that figure is from our last accounts. As you say, after the players leaving in Jan, that will be smaller now.

Its all so unnecessary anyway. Just put in a players contract- you get £x in the prem, £y in the Championship and £z in league 1. = no need for parachute payments.
It such a shame that a great division like ours is made such an unlevel playing field. Its mainly Scudamores fault and great at his job as he is, he is undoubtedly an enemy of the game as far as Im concerned. the better he does, the worse it is for the championship and the national side. But the Football league have to take a lot of the blame for not standing up to him and allowing him to ruin their division as a fair contest.
At least this season proves that its still possible to succeed without parachute payments, so if we can continue to steadily progress as we have done for many years now, its not out of the question that we could challenge for promotion.

Although Bournemouth and Watford(+Granada+Udinese) did it without parachute payments it remains to be seen if they complied with FFP. .

As I understand it, next season we will get a share of Norwich's payments but this just balances out the loss of QPR's. It is from the following season that all Championship clubs not receiving parachute payments will get 30% of the third year payment as solidarity payments ( bribes). At the same time parachute payments will be paid over 3 years but the %age breakdown has yet to be fixed. The value of payments will not be known until the overseas rights have been sold: It is estimated at around £100M over 3 years. FL/Sky Guff

Its much lower than 13m now.....im sure dean indicated it would be around 9.5m this year.....still frightening money even at the lower end of the pay scale. To put it into context, rochdales is about 1.4m before bonuses.

Shows that money doesn't necessarily mean success, we were a fair bit better without the 7 or so we moved on and the lower wage bill.

And to think lots were blearing about letting ward and hammill (2 of our highest earners) leave for rovrum. Wards done ok, hammill has been a bit part player. Let him go this summer along with wallace and murphy (and prob goburn) to bring in 4 or 5 better lads and onwards and upwards!

I've just googled 'QPR parachute payments shared out' and the same for Norwich. The QPR one led to a forum where their fans and fans from other Championship clubs were expecting a share out. The second led to the Mirror website where a headline says all the Championship clubs will be supporting Norwich because they will all get a share of £24m and it says this happened last year as well. I am fully aware that these sources are shit, but where did you come across Scudamore saying no?

Maybe it was this from a couple of years ago- www.theguardian.com/football/2013/may/16/premier-league-championship-parachute-paymentsThough that is talking about the clubs who get parachute payments, NOT getting the solidarity payment thats given to all championship clubs aswell ( at the time £2m) , with their share being split amongst the others. Something Scudamore rejected and blackmailed the championship clubs to withdraw from with the threat of not giving any of them the solidarity payment if they didn't.

The only saving grace is that clubs have to use it wisely to keep those under contract paid after relegation on Prem wages......
Or clubs could spunk off millions on players and mad wages and then get stuck in the division anyway - now that would be stupid club management.........

For another angle, Paul Merson was saying yesterday that relegated clubs suffer twice, once by being relegated, and again by losing their best players. This is how the greedy league think.

These payments should be for one year maximum. and if they lose their best players then why do they need the parachute payments!

Rotherham have a wage bill of £6M - probably a legacy of having a few players on Lg2 and Lg1 contracts and you'd expect that to go up, but credit to them for running a team that survived in the championship - with a points deduction, on such a relatively low wage budget.

Tisn't as simple as that though, is it cap'n? Why would players agree to contracts like that? Well, only if that's all there is on offer -- i.e., all clubs are sticking to the same principle. But if you know anything about game theory this is an absolute classic example of the prisoner's dilemma. We'd all be better off if all clubs did as you say. But the best possible result for a single club is for everyone else to abide by your ideas, while they fiddle it, sign the best players and thus go up. And because of that, each club thinks 'We can't be the mugs who stick to our guns' and everyone goes down the same pan.

if they lose their best players, they still have a squad of pretty average or below average premier league players on vastly inflated wages on long contracts...
its not the wages that the top earners get that is the problem.. Rooney and the others attract sponsors and merchandising that pays their wages, the vast majority of the biggest earners are at clubs who get into Europe every year and that now is serious gravy on top of the massive sky cash. They also fill their grounds every week..
paying a full back at stoke 30/40/50k a week along with a bench player at aston villa on 65k a week is where the problem lies..
filling the championship with 15/20k a week plus players is almost suicidal...
