...we were all celebrating the 2-1 play off final win over Bristol Rovers...what a day, still remains my favourite day watching Town, it's my favourite promotion being my first, I'd missed Buxton's by a year. It capped off a great first seaosn at the new satdium and it actually felt that the club was back....
What a day....so fire away your memories of the day.

Was only 8 but remember missing it as we were up in Scotland on holiday. Remember swimming somewhere and then hearing the result in the car (was about the only way in those days if you weren't at home in front of teletext). Happy days

One of my favourite seasons supporting town.. Still got the 'New beginning' VHS somewhere, although I had to upgrade to the DVD when it came out! I'd suggest anyone who hasn't seen it to buy it.. Still puts a lump in my throat watching it back now!
Brilliant season!

Can remember thinking the Bristol lad in the headband was head and shoulders above any other player. His name escapes me...

I'm reminded every time I goto the gym, a cracking picture of Chrissy Billy on the wall in full flight - happy days

It was a great day but the celebrations were a bit of an anticlimax after the semi final penalty win at Brentford, whch was quite a bizarre feeling for me.

First Dyson for Trevitt who'd had a below par game and then Dunn for Crosby which had an almost immediate impact with the cross that led to winner.

my most favourite memory of supporting town. 2 trips to wembley in 12 months and that diving header from Billy was probably the first time id had an orgasm! ? all the sweeter after the peterborough downer a couple of years earlier as well. genuinley felt we were heading straight to the prem. those were the days...

Loved the day. It was the last time I saw my dad before he died. Because of his heart condition he didn't go wild at the end, he just sat there with a tear in his eye. He took me to my first match when I was 7 (1959) so we had a long long association with Town together. Lovely memories and thanks for the reminder. UTT

Dvd being released again tomorrow for a week long period. Any remaining copies are going to the reunion on the 5th. I have it on VHS and can't wait to get a copy on DVD. First season ticket at Town and fell in love with them that season, really wish I could make it to the do next Friday night.

Just remember being a nervous wreck in the last 10 minutes or so. Sat slumped in my seat just peeping through the people in front of me as they sang and cheered us on. Couldn't bare to watch. Think i nearly barfed up when Stewy hit the bar.

Billy hitting the bar, Francis saving the one on one, Boothy's goal, Stewarts goal, half time, Stewarts curling effort, Stewart hitting the bar and Taylor's open goal miss, Jepson's header tipped over, Iain Dunn, Jepson's arms going up as he couldn't meet Boothy's header from Dunn's cross, Billy's header, why was Chris billy in that position, Stewart hitting the bar again, Brownings follow up, oceans clearing header at the end, full time. The top of the cup falling onto sinnott's head.
Great day.

Great great day , four of us hired car, overall better day than recent playoff final. Because my first trip to old Wembley and never seen my team win anything as important and just the atmosphere.

A culmination of my most enjoyable season watching Town since my first match in 77 and not enjoyed a season as much since.
Warnock, my favourite Manager by a country mile. This Man also gave me my finest moment ever watching Town, never mind the play-off final, Brentford away in the semi, words fail me. Second after that is Peterborough away in the play-offs, the away was just bouncing, mental.
I do though remember when Warnock first arrived and one of his earlier matches we played Barnet at home at Leeds road. Think crowd would probably have only been 5k something and I had gone to match on my own that particular day as nobody else gave a toss and wanted to go.
I think Barnet had lost 10 straight games from the start of the season, that record was broken when they won at Leed Road. I think many of us left that day thinking why the feck do we bother. Little did I know what was round the corner with Warnock.
The Leeds road days, brilliant times. In the eras I watched them at Leeds road, we were largely shite but there wasn't the money or prima donnas in the game then and indeed expectations were less and you felt more part of it. I loved it though and couldn't get enough, home and away whenever I could.
Apart from the 'Jepson Booth' season, there is no season I have enjoyed in the new stadium as much as going down to Leeds road.

Was only 6 (birthday the day of the game) - but the games in those days seemed to be so much more exciting, the fans more vocal - more people smiling. Great memories.

Have said it before re warnock......wouldn't have seen his first season out in the modern social media era. He'd have been gone by Xmas for selling Roberts, marsden, iffy etc and replacing them with inferior individuals who initially were garbage but who eventually became a hugely better collective. Think what we'd have missed out on ........auto glass, promotion at wembley, and a team who had as much pride in our shirt as we do. They weren't the most talented I've seen......not by a long way, and at times it wasn't the silkiest football ever...........but the whole experience was much more enjoyable. Cheaper/few games where tickets had to be bought upfront and a real sense of rebuilding our great club into a decent outfit again.

We were honest under Warnock, talent wise the most gifted Players?, hell no. We did though have Players on the pitch who cared as much as we did in the stands and that transferred to the fans in bucket loads, we knew they did.. Tom Cowan anybody?. His fist pumping at the end of a match had me on a high for days and days.

That's because you were six.. It's called nostalgia .. You're not wrong, Ted - adult life is shit! Yep ... Kids have no idea about how it's all downhill from school... For those of us who were born in the late sixties the Buxton era will never be topped.. If you were born a decade or so later I'm sure it's the warnock era which wets your whistle... When morley terrier goes on about leeds road and warnock, and says last season was the worst ever, what he doesn't realise is that it's HIM that changed ... In thirty years time middle aged saddoes will be waxing lyrical about " Terry the terrier" " dizzy penalties" and " the david Edgar years " .. When you're a kid even shit smells of magic

When you're a kid even shit smells of magic Ted, re the decades point you make, valid that. In relation to why last season was the least amount of games I have attended and have stopped going, I quite simply don't enjoy it anymore. The current crop of Players are quality and are very capable, able Players who don't need raw effort and passion on top of a bit of ability to make a living playing football. It's a good job really. The Manager shouldn't even be talked about in the same sentence when it comes to displaying true passion for this Club the same as such as Warnock did. Tell me this Ted, apart from Smithies, tell me any of the current crop of Players who you feel from the stands it means as much to them to wear the blue and White stripes the same as it would for you?. Who of the current squad would you say compares to such as Booth, Jepson, Bullock or Cowan in terms of giving their all for this Club?, Players you felt a connection with. Yes I have changed, but so has the attitude of Playing and coaching staff from how football used to be. I do though enjoy reminiscing about the past and when going was brilliant.

Whilst I think there is some validity in your points I still think if you had been born twenty years later you would.. in 20 years time.. be waxing lyrical about the likes of butterfield wells and Vaughan

When you're a kid even shit smells of magic Isn't there a difference now though ted?! When I was a kid and early 20s there was still hope that our once great club could return to former glories and we wanted to play a part in that - now the kids just see the Rooneys, hazards etc and the media frenzy the top clubs now have - not an easy persuasion to get your kids to buy into town and so the lop sided nature of football now is slowly but surely heading the way of Spain, Italy where the top 2 or 3 dominate all of the game. It may just be natural evolvement, but I find it kind of sad personally......having different sides peak and trough is a key part of life as a fan isn't it?

Did anyone go to the reunion dinner? Was it good?
(I have three other Play-Off Final collages on my website; click on the ARTWORK section. Some great stuff there!)

So, Danny ... I've read The Examiner splurge and seen the blurry photos (nice effort Mr Official Photographer). But what was it like? Did you learn any juicy gossip? Did Terry Fisher give his side of the Warnock walking away incident?
