Its because it had a barrel roof, like a shed on farms that they kept cows in. The barrel roof was also good for atmosphere as it kept it in rather than dissipating out. It was a Belfast roof. (I realise this isn't interesting in the slightest - just a shit fact that has stayed with me)

Yes it was a Belfast roof with latticed supporting struts - quite scarce nowadays. The main stand wasn't wooden, the seats were, but the stand was brick built and two tiered. The gloomy concourse in the middle reeked of urine, disinfectant and cigarette smoke.
When I started watching the lower tier was standing, and known as the paddock. This was later converted to seating. Ground capacity at that time was limited to 55,000, achieved when Town played Wolves in the FA Cup and for a semi-final Cup replay I think between Man.Utd. and Sunderland.
The biggest crowd I was in was the Town v. Wednesday cup tie (49,000 plus). That was an atmosphere, heightened when Steve Smith opened the scoring towards the Cowshed, about fifteen yards in front of where we were standing. The crowd surge uprooted the crush barrier we were leaning on, which was duly picked up and passed in pieces onto the running track behind the goal. I don't think anyone was particularly hurt or fazed by the dangerous situation, but a few were on the floor and helped up. We were too absorbed with the action on the pitch. There'd have been an Inquiry nowadays, I suppose, but we were blissfully ignorant of H & S issues then. We duly lost (bloody Johnny Fantham) - I think Colin Dobson was playing for them as well that day. UTT

UTT Now for all the crap that gets posted on this forum a fair bit of it I contribute much of I know. This story is brilliant about the older days of town. When footy was the working mans game and not the bizarre sport it is today. I can listen and appreciate this era no problem. Thank you.

I'd argue that it's more a human than political sentiment, and no more political than the modern 'ultra' movement (I know you chaps are not necessarily aligned with that). Fair enough, though, it's your thing and you're entitled to do it how you see fit. Keep up the good work.

We don't think we are big enough to be showing political or part political messages yet. Nothing stopping us in the future. Wouldn't mind doing a 'kick it out' or 'say no to racism' or 'show racism the red card' banner.

With our club priding itself on being so community minded I'd like to think they might have something on the cards soon. If you're looking for ideas for flags then you could do a lot worse, nothing political about wanting to help those in need.

Or how about a banner along the lines of "Refugees please go to your nearest safe country instead of coming half way round the world to turn Britain into a replica of the same shithole you just left"
