Has today signed for Notts County. What are the odds of him scoring against us in the cup? Best of luck to him as I think he could score a few at league 2 level.

Can't wait to see him blowing out of his arse after 30 mins at the mighty John Smiths stadium.

Would have thought the chickens would have signed him.
Good luck to him - but I hope he has a stinker against us.

So what happened between him and Bradford? Seemed like a like-like move.
I'm saying that in the most positive way possible for Jon Stead. Got a lot of time for him.

If I ever get to talk to him again (I did once), I'll ask him the back story, along with asking him if he ever saw Roy Keane in the shower. Could never understand why the hyper-hormoned one was jealous of him buying a flash car. First I'll ask him if that story is actually true.

Bradford are very tight in their budgets.. I think they wanted him.. but not for the money stead wanted.. so Bradford pursued cheaper targets and stead got his dream move to Nottingham

If there's a quiet Tuesday night with nothing much on next season I might pop down and see him play.

Am I the only one uncomfortable with the Jon Stead bashing that goes on, on here?.
I remember him first time round and enjoyed watching him as well as the money he made us. Having met him, he is also a thoroughly nice Chap AND A TOWN FAN.
Okay, perhaps ability wise Championship standard football may have been a stretch too far on bis return but can anybody honesty say he didn't give 100% and try his hardest?. Is that not all we can ask of anybody chosen to Play?.
A Player who could have picked up his wages and sat on the bench but CHOSE to drop a league to get game time and not only that, to a rival knowing that for some Town fans that would leave him open to abuse. He still did it though and fair play to him.
I don't think he played badly at all on the odd time he did play for us and if only some of the many showers of shit attitude wise we have had on our books over recent times (and do have) had his attitude, we would have had at least one season in the Premier League by now.

Great post. The lad was great for us then got great move. He's had a very good career now. Nice for him to get this deal now I'm sure he will score over 10 for them, still a very good player at his age.

Nice for him to get this deal now I'm sure he will score over 10 for them, still a very good player at his age. I think stuff like this means some people react overly negative towards him sometimes. He was shit the season we got relegated to the bottom division, a Keigan Parker/Chris Hay level of shit. Then he played well for 4 or 5 months but when he left we were 6th and 7 points off automatic promotion and we finished 4th and a few goals off automatic (thinking of the Coady thread, Stead can probably be added to the list of players we thought we'd miss massively but in hindsight didn't). People tend to over play or under play what Stead did here, he did alright for us first time round overall and was obviously playing well towards the end but to be honest I didn't see as much as some must've done in his second spell because I thought he was pretty poor every time I saw him and looked incredibly unfit. Fair play to him getting a 2 year deal at Notts County he should still be able to get a few goals and a good amount of games at that level.

Is Jimmy Spencer still with Notts? Yes and feeling fitter than he's ever felt before. Cue both to net against us in the cup! LINK

I like a lot of what you say. However... I watched him close up one day in training (around Easter) in his first season back with us. He barely broke sweat, his touch was truly awful, and he didn't look as if he was trying to improve the situation any. So yes, I can say he certainly wasn't giving 100% (on that particular day, anyway). I think Jon underestimated the job requirement when he came back to us and he was found wanting. He no longer posessed the power to up his game on a regular basis. Happens to the best of 'em. Good luck to him, though.

From what I saw in the pre-seaon friendlies last year, I think he will make a good coach/academy coach eventually.
