I'm sure we'll bring someone in but it has given him chance to stake a claim for a first team spot during pre season.
Transfers like this make the reluctance to give young players a chance at the back end of last season even more baffling. Be interesting to see how much he features in the first team friendlies or whether he'll be mainly in the development fixtutes

I don't think Powell fancies any of our academy lads, Billing and Tronstad should have got a couple of games towards the end of the season!

If that's the case, then you have to ask the question 'Why not?'. Powell is obviously no fool, and therefore he must have good reason not to be promoting the likes of Billing and Holmes. I'd leave it to them that's in the know.

Don't get your hopes up. And it's it not the clubs/powells fault.

Playing gobern now just looks a waste if time and blocked pathways. Was hoping we'd see billing and others blooded but now we simply cannot rely on any of them breaking through to the first team this season.

Billing et al might just do it. The problem is that everyone will be on them like a tonne of... when they make one mistake.
They will need time to develop playing Championship football. Perhaps we cannot afford that time.

I saw Billing play for the under 21s towards the end of last season, at the Ricoh v Coventry, and if his performance that day is how he's been playing all season then I'm not surprised Powell hasn't had him anywhere near the 1st team. On another note one of the stand out players that day was the young lad from Brighus, Callum Charlton.

Billing came on as a sub against Leicester. That was the season before last! So it was, Leicester of the Premiership, embarrassing my apologies. To be fair Powell has had him travelling with the squad and put him on the bench against Derby.

Just my opinion mate, but he did seem a long way off a starting berth with the 1st team that day. Obviously can't really base it on one game I've seen, but if his performances in previous games are as woeful as that one then it's no wonder he's not near the 1st team. Hope the lad can push on and stake a claim for a run in the 1st team though

Thing is no one was really enthused by Bunn before he started getting games and look what happened there.
I hope the same happens

I've heard that Billing is not a popular member of the squad (especially with senior personnel) likely to be the result of his Scandinavian background/habits/humour. Described as weird.
If anyone wants to question that, the same source broke the news to me about Booty signing his 4 year pro contract before official announcement, Vaughan's inclusion in the Wigan squad following his season ending broken cheekbone, Clarke getting released and Billing's inclusion in the first match day squads under Robins (as posted on here).

To be fair, I deal with Scandinavians every day through work and they can be a little strange/different to us. That said, the nicest person I've ever met is Danish

On the other hand Norwegian (Scandinavian) Tronstad comes across very well when spoken with.

Are people looking at Billing with rose tinted specs after the supossed "internal enquiry" at Everton?

Billing did well in that friendly last year against Newcastle, perhaps all he needs is the opportunity to play with the seniors with better ability etc and he will shine...if he isn't given the chance we will never know, expect him Charles and Holmes to get lots of game time in preseason if it goes well they might start the opener like Crooksy did last season and we know how that turned out. Tbh think unless theres massive improvement this crop of U21's aren't ready for 90 mins but could do an ok job as subs
