FFS.
7 days into his first pre-season, and there's a fucking poll on whether he will relegate us.
Just sums up this board and a great deal of our clubs supporters.

If we had sustained success, then the fan base would grow. You dont attract people with a decent performance here and there... All the fans that could be turned into committed season ticket holders currently turn up now and again, even less so now the prices have gone stupid.... If they see entertaining football, a few goals, ideally a good win. Then they are more likely to return than watching a stale turgid bore draw, or 1-0 town defeat. Doing that once wont convince people, it needs to be sustained over several years.

To be fair i think CP, If he is the one deciding the shape of the squad and other players like Wells, Vaughan leave etc like CC did and he is offloading players so that he can recruit players to fit the style he wants, Then we have to give him time to do his stuff, Two many on here are PC managers who in the grand scheme of things with respect no fuck all, The club has moved forward over the last couple of seasons and maybe getting in rid of some of the squad and the big time charlies in it is the right thing long term, Non of us are footy managers, I will judge him on results regardless of how dull the performance is.

I'm going to reserve any further criticisms because its just not worth the effort trying to hold a measured discussion.

This for me sums up the problem with a lot of football debate. Everything becomes so binary. Where's the middle ground? Three options = Binary?

But if that's the case maybe he should come out and say it, which might alert potential bidders who are otherwise sat there thinking (like me) that Dean enjoys his little football vanity project and the empowerment it gives him to do good by the community that he grew up in, and isn't thinking about jacking things in so wouldn't welcome aggressive takeover approaches.

An interesting attempt at both praising AND denigrating Hoyle, all in the same sentence. Well done!!

I dont think I would say that Powell was the best thing since sliced bread. However so far he has surpassed the last 4/5 managers we have had.

The poll was a bit tongue in cheek thus the not so much 'overly serious' basic options.
Take from it what you wish, Its a forum after all and unsurprisingly People post things.
My summary is that circa 65% feel that the Club has the right Manager, the other 35% ain't sure (is that good or bad?). Not sure if that is a comprehensive vote of confidence or not?. It is though of course well in favour of Powell and I like everybody hope he is the right Man and we have a good season.
Time will tell.

Just got home to read the absolute drivel posted by people like terrier park, Mirf and others but the "vanity project" comment is an utter disgrace. From Longbottom to Davy, we've had to put up with boards with little or no vision - the usual mix of jumped up local businessmen who brought largely amateurism and years of short term, dismal parochialism fired by unfathomable egos. We get a bloke who pumps millions in year in, year out, totally transforms the very foundations of the club (to which he has anchored the community) and all from a shockingly poor position inherited out of the ashes created by an idiot with too much money and far less clue and an opportunist with little interest other than the stadium and another sport. At the same time, he puts us back in the 2nd tier from which to build (as we have done, year on year, since he took over) a sustainable, successful club. Oh, and to the poster who suggested DH spells out if and why he is unhappy with some so called supporters - he did. Nearly 12 months ago. Not that it sinks in with the thick and unrealistic who have to be told time after time about commercial realities and the challenges we face as a smaller club in a hugely competitive division. DH must have the patience of a bloody Saint.

Is there a point to this slightly tedious exchange? Of course not - welcome to DATM. Do try not to be so pompous, it's only a bit of fun! Half the folk on here can't spell their own name, half think they are running the world and the other half can't even add up.
