I'm a pro footballer being asked to perform in a pre-season friendly when it doesn't matter. Can I be bothered to put my neck on the line? Chill, Town fans. League results are what counts. Anything else is irrelevant. Its highly relevant that we are being outplayed imho.

After the kick and rush of the first 20min Deportivo will get into their rhythm and take control, Town players will be chasing shadows like against Betis and Barca B in previous encounters with the La Liga

Roll on August 8th, at least then the moaners will be able to complain about football matches that actually matter. [br I went today and believe me the first 45 minutes, whether it was a friendly or not was shocking and them what paid have every right to moan if that is what they want to do!

If people can be bothered to spend their hard earned cash travelling to an away friendly then the least they should expect in return is a team that shows the same level of commitment.

However you dress it up if this is us ramping up towards the season and players staking their claims to start at Hull then god help us with the performances of our defenders !! I know it's only pre season but by all accounts our defenders have been clueless in two games against lower ranked opposition and a Rochdale reserve side at that. At least we've 2 more games to at least try to get some cohesion at the back, that said I'm worried about us opening up at an ex Premier League side a week on Saturday !!

I understand and sympathise with anyone who shelled out some dosh as well as their time and effort, but friendlies (which I stopped going to after a Coventry one at home some years ago) are more often than not, tepid affairs where the main exercise is upping match sharpness for the actual season ahead. We had similar comments after the Oldham away game last season, so it's not unlike Town to put in 'shocking' preseason performances.

Anything else is irrelevant. You shouldn't be playing pro football then. A proper pro would recognize the importance of getting himself ready for the big kick off and not taking it for granted that he'll be automatically in the team. Maybe Rochdale's pro footballers have a better attitude than ours. Two quotes from Powell in his post match interview “I wanted the players to show me why they should be in the team and as a collective it didn’t happen in the first-half. Some of the goals we conceded were poor,”
“It may be pre-season, but nobody should think that winning games doesn’t matter because it does to me. There may be no points at stake, but there soon will be and we must have that mentality. Whilst there is absolutely no need to panic, I do like these responses from the manager. Winning is in the head as much as anything, and he realises it is now time to focus. If the players are not fully tuned in way before the 8th August then they will get a spanking. The time to start getting into the correct mindset for Hull... is right now.

Had a good day out in Rochdale until the game spoilt it.
Dempsey looks a real prospect and Butterfield and Wells looked sharp. Hiwula made some great runs but too quick for the team to spot until they get accustomed to him. Defense looked poor until Walace came on. Delighted to see him looking stronger.

I'm surprised that people are surprised that our defence is still pretty shambolic !!! The signing of a back up wasn't suddenly going to turn us into a watertight unit.
Lets face it we need some quality that it looks like we haven't got in the academy and can't afford to buy, it's a shame because if we had a half decent defence I'd back us to finish top half. As it stands I think we will do well to equal last seasons final position, it won't be boring that's for sure.

it's ok top loading us with attacking options, but where's the defenders that we need? I know it's a pre-season game but to concede 4 at rochdale is dire.

The defence where very poor in the first half, playing Smith on the left hand side did us no favours as he was caught out to many times for my liking. Maybe when Davidson is available it will be a improvement on Smith, but the two central positions look just like last season again. Midfield looked a bit lightweight to me, but improved when butter field got going. In the second half Dempsey showed glimpses of promise! Up front we still look lightweight, but Wells did ok.

Tommy Smith is a decent player but I just don't think he's a fullback. Defender in a back 3 he's shown himself to be excellent, maybe we should give him a go at centre half in one of the remaining friendlies ? Surely he can't be worse than Hudson who I thought was going to be an excellent signing but who looks like his legs are gone.

It's a bit double edged for me ... On one hand you don't really want to go into the first game with a losing mentality.. But on the other since when are athletes looking to peak three weeks before competition day... There are plenty of friendlies between now and then.. No need to panic in my opinion .. The result really isn't the main thing at present

Another embarrassing result. Similar performances were put in this time last year. We then got 4 points from our opening 8 fixtures, flirted with relegation for the remainder of the season and conceded 75+ goals. Very worrying indeed.

I,v also been to a few friendlys over the last 30 years but I,v gone for the day out with the lads and I don't look for fault during the game....its my problem if I want to waste my money on a stupid friendly which means nothing.....players don't give it there all which I don't blame them so close to the season starting.....if you went to Rochdale today respect to you for going but don't expect your money back because we lost......amen....chill out ffs......i,m jimmymac I do what I want......ha ha ha ha......xxxxx
