As all games matter lets compare a few statistics: We lost 3-1 at Grimsby, Derby lost 2-1 - so we are not quite as good as Derby. We lost 4-3 at Rochdale, Blackburn lost 2-1 - so we are on a par with Blackburn - much better going forward but not as good at the back. Seems reasonable for midway through pre season.

Whilst there is absolutely no need to panic, I do like these responses from the manager. Winning is in the head as much as anything, and he realises it is now time to focus. If the players are not fully tuned in way before the 8th August then they will get a spanking. The time to start getting into the correct mindset for Hull... is right now. It's a bit double edged for me ... On one hand you don't really want to go into the first game with a losing mentality.. But on the other since when are athletes looking to peak three weeks before competition day... There are plenty of friendlies between now and then.. No need to panic in my opinion .. The result really isn't the main thing at present As I said Ted, no need to panic whatsoever. However, I disagree about your 'peaking' theory. It's not about peaking and a one off event on August 8th anyway, it's about getting fully focused for a long season and that has to begin way before the Hull game as such things do not switch themselves on magically on the morning of the opening game. Agree it isn't about winning, just yet... but it certainly isn't about conceding 3 and 4 goals every game at this stage either. Listen to what Powell said again... he agrees with me.

Jimmy, you're a true Town fan and a lad but we need a team that we can cheer once again, how many years do we have to wait ? It's getting a fooking joke when little ol' Rochdale fuck us over. We should be winning these games 4 zip leading up to the Hull victory but our financial restraints is against us. What a load of bollocks

I was at today's game and think CP pretty much summed up the performance. For 20 minutes we were too deep, too slow in moving the ball and paid the price. N truth we were very poor in that period and only improved marginally for the last 25 minutes. The defending was awful and clearly not good enough.
2nd half improved greatly, but we over played at times. Dempsey impressed for his few minutes and Jordy showed some quality touches.
I don't think we can play Bunn, Lolley and Scanz from the start of a game. Whitehead needs to play 10 yards up the pitch and move it quicker.
Overall we still have the ability to drop below what is required and defend poorly. On the flip side we have ability on the pitch, CP needs to bring it out consistently.
Overall more than a little bit same old same old Town. But there's plenty of time to get it right

Town has 2 games (TWO) before the big kick-off.
As other posters have said we are still leaking goals for fun and to lower level opposition at that.
Unless there is a dramatic turn around in the last two friendlies (where will it come from?) the Tigers will eat the Terriers for dinner and spit out the bits; it will be ugly. Last season's 0-4 start could look good in comparison.
I just hope that Powell and his back room staff can whip them into some sort of shape by 8th August. It looks to be a daunting task.

Another embarrassing result. Similar performances were put in this time last year. We then got 4 points from our opening 8 fixtures, flirted with relegation for the remainder of the season and conceded 75+ goals. Very worrying indeed. Except that we didn't and finished over 10 points clear of relegation

I really can't believe that the mighty Huddersfield Town, who let's not forget won the First Division thrice in succession back in the 1920's, have lost to the likes of Rochdale!

What a load of bollocks It's not financial restraints today though .....rochdales wage bill is 1.5m.....ours 5 or 6 times that!!! Today was unacceptable defending from highly paid players who didn't perform.....that's the fault of those in the shirts and the management team not a lack of financial resources! Rochdale did by the way also beAt Blackburn comfortably on tues night so it's not just us!!

this needs resolving asap. Can't see the captain being dropped though really Disagree floyds - just got back and thought Hudson defensively was the best of the four. Lynch and smith were woeful - I was sat in the directors box and the dale fans in there were quite scathing of town "down the left" - no natural left footed player and bunn and smith hardly combined at all and gave far too much room to their right side. On the positive side, Wallace has filled out and did ok, Dempsey looks promising and wells when given service remains a class player IMO. On the negative side, only a handful of their starters today are expected to start in a fortnight!!!! Unless we start games properly though we will struggle.....smithies hadn't a price with any of the goals two of which came from allowing easy crosses into the box...AGAIN!! Not time to panic by any means, but it did seem a case of same old story and if we defend like today at hull we will be 4 or 5 down at half time! Defensively the best after we conceded 4 in 45 minutes! An oxymoron. He's the captain and he needed to sort it out. He's slow and weak in the air, definitely not good enough for Championship football this season. As I'm sure we'll find out in due course...

Not at all floyds.....you singled him out as poor, I simply stated that IMHO he was better than lynch who had a shocker and smith who was just as bad! On today's basis how were lynch and smith good enough for the championship....or are they like Hudson simply not good enough?! You're right we will find out in due course........but Hudson IMO has been scapegoated by some because he's come in with a pedigree none of the others have and not delivered that as yet for us.......it's not up to him as captain to sort out piss poor mistakes and be the only voice on the pitch surely?! After all, two of them came from our better performers on the day namely butterfield and lolley whose challenges on the lad before he scored the screamer bordered on pathetic.

We've been a totally different side this half. Missed 3 goldens. Who did and didn't impress? We always looked dangerous going forward - Wells looked sharp, Lolley had some decent runs. Dempsey got involved when he came on, more so than Butterfield. Bunn and Scannell were quiet, aside from the latter's goal. Whitehead looked decent enough on the ball but didn't put his foot in too much off it. Defensively though we were poor. Hudson in particular. Cranie at right back was at fault for their first but didn't do alot else (right or wrong). Smith isn't a left back. Lynch would have been sent off. Encouraging going forward, not so at the back - probably as expected. I've quoted Floyd just to compare how we each saw the game. There is no doubt Rochdale started the much better team. We looked slow, static and rusty. Rochdale looked quick, agile and bang up for it. We looked like we lined up 4-4-1-1, Lynch and Hudson at the back with Smith on the left and Craine on the right. Whitehead and Butts sat in the centre with scannell on right and Bunn on the left. Lolley sat just behind Wells. With Rochdale playing 3 at the back, I thought they played it really well. They squeezed us high up the pitch and dominated midfield. They played with such speed that town became static and just watched on as Rochdale went 2-0 very easily. First half was dreadful, there is no getting away from it. I personally felt that we lacked legs in midfield, the absence of coady and Hogg showed for me. Whitehead played well, he wasn't afraid to get stuck in and could certainly pick a pass, him and butts looked good together. I thought craine was poor as a RB, I see him more naturally as a CB or Defensive midfielder. He can certainly play, but looks too eager to get stuck in rather than hold his position. Scanz had a typical scannell game, ran up a few blind alleys but also had a few moments of magic. He took his goal well and tried to put some good balls in. Bunn looked off it first half, but most town players did. He looked to come on the inside more in the second half and he looked a real threat. Lolley had some moments of magic, the kid oozes brilliance when on it. Sometimes does the simple things wrong but he gets people stood up. He nearly scored a bit of a Zola when he beat 3 defenders and tried to chip the keeper but hit the post. I felt him and wells didn't look natural as a partnership playing in that formation, neither hold the ball up like Vaughan and/or Miller. That said, they were both quick and threatening especially second half where we dominated. Should have scored 3 other golden chances but only scored the one. Hula looks a live wire, he could be absolutely fucking brilliant, or absolutely shocking. His pace is frightening, I'm really excited by him. He's a guaranteed starter against notts county. Hammill should of had a penalty when he was deliberately tripped but didn't have much time to do much else. Hogg only got a few minutes at the end but good to see him get some game time. The lad who came on that impressed me the most though was Dempsey. This kid has something. I hope he's got the application because he's certainly got talent. His runs and movement were the sort that get crowds going. If he does everything right off the field, we could have a real entertainer here. He played a beautiful move with hula and wells which resulted in wells hitting the post. To sum up, we were a disgrace first half, second half a million times better. Worst person the park was the ref who should of been replaced by a steward or ball boy. He was woeful. I think you moaning bitches need to chill the fuck out and stop panicking to be honest.
