I have watched Town for 50 years and am finding it difficult to remember when we last put a 18 or 19 year old into the first team and let them have a run of games-Was it Jordan Rhodes? There surely has to come a time when we take a risk and play some of these youngsters and before anybody says you need experience I am talking about 1 or 2 players. It's ok looking at them on the training pitch and in Development games but throwing them in at the deep end in the Championship could be the making of some of these kids. Play Dempsey for me and see how far his young energy, passion and skill take him. Can't wait for Hull. Geoff Hutt?

Alex Smithies. Duane Holmes (19 apps in 2013/14. Apparently). Liam Ridehalgh (15 Apps 2010/11) Murray Wallace had a decent run at one point - he's still only 22. I may or may not be wrong.

Please don't tell me we have another Lolley situation here.
"At his age he needs to develop, joined us from lower leagues, not used to Championship level demands etc etc etc".
Feck that, one Player that has got us all excited (liked him against Deportivo).
Get him starting, asap. At least if we lose, we may enjoy certain elements like this Lad getting stuck in!.

So faced with Powell's selection dilemma yesterday what position should Dempsey have played in the starting line up. Be tough to throw him in at wingback or put him in in front of Bunn or Hogg?
We didn't get the ball for the last 10 minutes when we went 4-4-2 with Dempsey and Butterfield in central midfield.

Think thats the way he will go eventually morley particularly at home, but remember we will also have scanz back shortly who will offer infinitely more than smith did yesterday, and davidson showed some signs of promise to work with in the future also.

I think that's the way I would go as well, but not difficult to see why Hogg started yesterday. Maybe more chance of Dempsey actually getting in to the box himself as well, like Oscar was starting to do in the last half dozen games last season. Bit hard on Hogg because he played well yesterday.

I reckon he'll start v Notts Co. I hope so. I thought he was going to emerge this season and kick on to be the next Town legend. Sadly the words Lolley and shin in the same sentence appear to be ominous.

With Whitehead and Hogg as midfield anchors this gives us the opportunity to play a "free spirit" type player in front of them - I think this is where Dempsey will fit the bill. I have this gut feeling that Butterfield may well move on in this transfer window. Now before I get pelters I have not seen him at any Railway Station, at no branches of Nandos, KFC, McDonalds, in no hotel reception areas and at no airport terminals to back this up. Also I have not spoken to any taxi driver who claims he has taken him to any fottball ground - its just a hunch - ok!

Rather watch Dempsey than Whitehead playing. Young player trying his best trying to make a career for himself and can only get better or a has been, passed his best player whose career is only going to go downhill?? I know what i would rather see

Pretty sure everyone believes Dempsey will play a pretty big part this season, but did anyone really expect him to start straight away in the first game in the championship away to Hull City having just moved to us from League 2 Carlisle?
He'll be eased into it and given chances (hopefully it'll go more like it did with Bunn and Smith, and not like Lolley) and its up to him to make an impact and keep his place.
I think he'll be starting against Notts County, as will Hiwula and Lolley (if fit) - You'd hope that Powell would take it seriously with a strong team but also use it as a chance to give some of the younger/squad players game time. Dempsey and Hiwula both played and did well in League 2 last season so you'd expect this to be the ideal opportunity to get them playing in a proper game for us.

Duane Holmes was going to be the saviour of Hudds Town, before anyone actually saw him play a first team game. The reality was somewhat different.

Apart from all the young players we've played in the last few years (FUCKING LOTS) Not so many 18 and unders have been regulars...for that they need to be quite special, and we've had one of those recently in rhodes....and guess what? he played....and its no where near as widespread as people like to make out..without looking I wouldnt be surprised if less than half the teams in this league have regulars of 18 or younger

I'm specifically talking about Powell. If he was West Ham manager yesterday, he would have said that you can't play 16 year olds at places like Arsenal and would have had Kevin Nolan out there instead

Gomez v stoke away Oxford v arsenal away.
Dempsey couldn't be trusted to play at the mighty Hull though.. Too big a game, too risky.
